I’ve often heard that art and video games in particular can represent the anxieties of the times they are made in. So in the 60’s-90’s you get a lot of art focused on large scale wars and world-ending weaponry, for example. Apparently the prevalence of zombie movies and games is an interesting barometer for anxiety about society and how it functions (or, how it could break down and turn catastrophic). With current concerns about (human-caused) climate catastrophe, I’m not surprised to see stories like this, or many others that focus on environmental apocalypses, post-apocalypses, etc. and I’m not surprised to see ties to”soulless corporations” and other similar ideas. These sorts of ideas are so tied into how we view the world (and what’s damaging it) that they’re bound to sneak into any setting like this.

Accoring to japanese figure descriptions in Kirby and the forgotten land, humanity supposedly left earth due to over population, and harnessed Fecto Elfilis’ space traveling abilities to do so

The credit's song in Forgotten Land is called something along the lines of "the letter from the travelers who left the forgotten land" (very heavy paraphrasing") so yeah. Kinda blatant.

And then there's Pokémon Legends Arceus, another post-apocalyptic game, in which humanity actually survived the apocalypse, although their technology had regressed back to pre-industrial levels with the apocalypse, forcing humanity to start all over again, and by the time the game takes place, humanity is technologically back in the Interwar Period, and compared to the other two, this game has the most realistic depiction of the apocalypse, as although the nature of the apocalypse itself is unknown, the outcome is that humanity survives, showing that, realistically, even if a big apocalypse happened, humanity would almost always find a way to survive.
