“In recognition of our service and loyalty to the Emperor, the 501st were placed under the direct command of Lord Vader. Armed with deadly new weapons, blazing new ships, and shiny new armor, our presence let the galaxy know that the days of the Old Republic were well and truly over. We were establishing a new era, an era of order and peace.”

What’s tragic about that last sentence is something the Empire tries to blur, the line between order and peace as they are more often than not two different things. One is calmness, the other is keeping the people in line.

@Commander23c
@Commander23c 2 жыл бұрын
@@teleportedbreadfor3days That's such a bad take. Order and Peace are completely inseparable. You may be a bit young with such a naive worldview! No worries I'll explain myself. // Order creates Peace. When your life is organized and you have routines you are at ease and by extent at peace. When your mental,spiritual, and physical health are in Order you have Peace as a result. Disorder invites Chaos. Restlessness follows Chaos as there can be no peace if there is no sense of balance. // Unlimited and unrestricted freedom is actually not a good thing. It allows the slow subversion of good principles until the moral integrity of a nation is so heavily weakened that detrimental practices become the norm. The problem is that most people are not adept at articulating these nuances so the average person will simply dismiss what they're saying.

Yeah, only to get killed by a f*cking wall panel. And the rest of Torrent apparently shared Ridge's luck, since the unit was finally wiped out entirely when RAS Tribunal crashed into that moon. The 501st was one of the most elite fighting force within both the Republic and Empire for good reason. I kinda liked how Order 66 was portrayed in legends. No inhibitor chips and the order were legitimate orders. Order 66 was an order that called for the execution of the Jedi command structure should the Jedi be considered unfit at best and rebellious towards the Republic at worst. Because it was an order and not a command that cannot be ignored, there were a larger number of Clone deserters than in canon. Thing is, from a perspective outside of the movies, Order 66 was a legitimate order. Consider that Mace Windu, one of the Jedi Council's highest ranking individual took a squad of Jedi right into the Supreme Chancellor's office to arrest Palpatine without informing the Senate and for, supposedly what could be considered questionable charge that Palpatine was a Sith Lord with no proof. Anyone would consider it a coup by the Jedi Order.

@@Cwronaga216 wrong! All Militaries have non combat roles, if they are apart of a genocide machine taking out entire planets in one go then they are valid Targets. It's not a War Crime to destroy the Death Star! What gives you the impression that it's a War Crime? Genuine question as I served nearly a Decade in the Army in a Combat Role in Combat in Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times so interested to understand how people view the roles in this fictional world of a Rebellion and a Galactic Dictatorship. Thanks!
@Cwronaga216
@Cwronaga216 Жыл бұрын
@@ReanuKeevesAus I said it's technically a war crime by definition it wasn't however saying that it wasn't Justified because in the case of the Death Star the collateral damage of non-combatants was inevitable and was simply a return War Crime After the empire did the same thing on Alderaan. Intentionally and knowingly killing noncombatant Personnel is by definition a war crime according to our real-world military Doctrine and as far as I'm aware the Star Wars Universe does have similar rules regarding war crimes even if the Empire itself disregards them and even the Republic in the case of Anakin and Obi-Wan using false surrender to win battles. War crimes have specific definition as stated within the Geneva Convention intentionally killing non-combatants and unarmed personnel is a war crime by technical definition. Now considering the entire surface of the Moon size station was a valid military Target and the deaths of noncombatant personnel could not be avoided You could argue there is a loophole and because of what happened on Alderaan it's unlikely anyone would care. But it's still technically by definition a war crime also the Rebellion is technically by definition a terrorist organization even if they were in the right and Justified since not all Rebel activity was heroic by any means especially when it comes to the partisan group or wetwork operations like those committed by individuals like Cassian Andor and his crew

One example: where Anakin and Obi-Wan were before they were sent to help out in the Battle of Coruscant (though to be honest, even Labyrinth of Evil and Clone Wars 2003 were differing on that in Legends). (At least three days before the NYCC, and thirteen days before the return. You know what I mean, right?)

@@michaelandreipalon359 Yeah, I know, for 2003 there were at The Battle of Nelvaan before going to Coruscant, and in Labyright of Evil it was the Recapture of Tythe before Coruscant. So even before the New Canon introduced the Battle of Yarbana the timeline was already confusing.

If the nick name legion is just for elite units, then the 501st is a corps since in Star Wars tcw it is mentioned that the 501st had within its ranks three brigades, therefore making it a corps. Tcw is both canon in the EU and disney canon so yeah it’s a corps

The 501st Legion held the title of elite unit from the time it formed all the way into the Legacy Era. I actually viewed the 501st Journal as a form of Imperial Propaganda, serving as a form of recruiting for the post-Hoth 501st legion. (Note: The journal makes up the campaign of the 2005 BF2, but ends at Hoth, even though the 501st were present at later battles.) This is also due to the fact that some of their missions likely belonged to other units. (Mygetto, Felucia, Kashyyk and Utapau) This can also be backed up by the fact that BF2 contradicts Dark Forces. In Dark Forces, Kyle Katarn steals the Death Star plans from an Imperial research outpost, while, in BF2, a group of Rebels who escaped from the Death Star prisons stole the plans, transmitted them to the Polis Masa group, who then sent it to Princess Leia. Since Dark Forces had a more fluid storyline, I'm going to say that's what happened. I'm not saying that all missions are fictional, just that some of the missions feel like they belonged to other units, or that they're made up.

Those aren’t really discrepancies though. In the real world it’s actually fairly common for different detachments of soldiers from one unit to deploy under the authority of another. So there absolutely could have been 501st troopers in all of these battles without much each. As for the Death Star thing, keep in mind that in Legends the Rebel Alliance received different bits of the Death Star plans from numerous different sources.

501ST JOURNAL. "In the waning months of the Clone Wars, the 501st faced missions critical to the agenda of Chancellor Palpatine. When we arrived at the bombed out ruins of Mygeeto, our Jedi commander believed we had been sent to take out a droid energy collector. What Ki-Adi-Mundi didn't know however was that our unit of the 501st was really after an experimental Mygeetan power source, that the Chancellor wanted for his superlaser. Keeping Mundi in the dark wasn't easy; the Jedi had become increasingly wary of the Chancellor's doings, and was on the lookout for the slightest hint of treachery. Just like the rest of them though, he never caught whiff of what was really going on, until it was far too late."

I think because Rex’s combat skills were unmatched, and he wasn’t quite as much of a tactical planner as he was a front liner. Therefore, captain worked better. A similar situation I could use is if you’ve watched attack on Titan. Levi definitely is the strongest soldier, yet he is also put as captain, because he works better as a front liner. But was there even a commander for the 501st during that time? It is still weird.

the survivors would have so much combat experience that they could use to train newbies that these newbies would be quickly brought up to speed. SF forces often take heavy losses. but are still elite operators due to the wealth of experience their survivors have. ive worked with SF too often to not have picked up on their heavy losses, as they also often operate all but alone in enemy territory, and in small groups, meaning that if they are discovered, every bad guy with a gun is dropped on their heads.

It's not explicitly mentioned that the 501st was present on Endor. The 501st journal ends after Hoth and various battles occurred after that. The next BF game that covers the Battle of Endor never mentions the 501st on the ground. It's possible they were either left on Hoth as an occupational force (highly unlikely) or was dispatched to Sullust as a distractionary force during the battle of Endor. Which means the unit may have survived the war mostly intact until divied up by the Imperial Remnants.
