I always thought Kira surviving nuke explosions was like a running gag of the anime. The first time was bad writing when Athrun self destructed his MS and Kira's cockpit was exposed. I thought they saw how bad it was and just ran with it like a running gag. The entire crew of Archangel even got in on it.

Gonna be honest, I love SEED and I kinda enjoyed SEED Destiny. I love Kira as a character and both the Freedom and Strike Freedom are some of my favorite Gundams. SEED is currently even my favorite Gundam series. You know what I think of this video? You are absolutely right. All the logic is sound, backed by evidence, and there are plenty of examples of instances where the fight SHOULD have gone the other way. How else do you think the world hasn't been nuked to hell. The reactor turn-off was turning off the N-Jammer Canceller, the equipment that negates the N-Jammers, which, if turned off, will allow the N-Jammer's effect to return. This would end up as a situation in which nuclear explosion trying to occur, but not succeeding. The huge explosion is half-explainable. Nuclear Gundams likely have a trickle flow system, in which the nuclear reactor slowly charges a battery which is the main power supply of the mobile suit, so that the battery will practically never run out, while being able to provide enough energy that the nuclear reactor cannot supply with its constant flow of a constant amount of energy. The explosion would be quite big, with all the energy in the battery released, but it's still bullshit because a battery cannot be as powerful as a nuclear reactor.

With the N-Jammer Canceller I'm fairly certain ZAFTs N-Jammers would have been nullified after the end of the first war. I mean, they tried to use nukes at the end of that war and the start of the second so if the Alliance had them, there's no way in hell they wouldn't use it to restart their energy production. Also, breaching a reactor with a beam blade emitting tons of high energy radiation...yeah, still going to cause the reactor to go super critical at least enough to create a surge of radiation powerful enough to kill Kira. Even if the explosion was non-nuclear, that is 100% non-survivable.

I guess it makes sense but personally even since the start of SEED, I already realized that it was not going to be your standard gundam series in terms of realism. Honestly I think its cool that we have a more gritty, realistic UC timeline and around it a more "anime" CE/AW timelines where characters got the "main protagonist get out of jail free card(s)". Because oif everything played out like UC gundams the franchise would get stale easily. Im glad we just got a mix of the two. But yea Fanboys are cancer. As for the fight, it may not be as bs as you may think. I think the reason why Kira never dies is because of his representation. For some reason, compared to all the other gundam series i have watched. It felt that SEED was more ideologically driven, I feel that the main point the series was trying to put out was more over idealism rather than the actual war. In UC gundams, there is more of a focus on WAR and the implications of WAR from both sides whereas SEED like Wing (in a sense) there is more of a focus on the various ideologies that spring up in the setting. With that in mind, what SEED feels like to me is that the KEY characters represent an idea. In destiny there is a significant focus on the idea of naming and identity. Which was exposed multiple times in conversations between the chair man and Arthun. In addition in SEED you got Kira struggling to fight versus his own people in order to save his friend. With that in mind Characters like Kira and Arthun represent ideas, and I think tomino wanted to push forward the idea where "you can't kill and idea" unless another idea takes over of course. When I realized that it kinda justified Kira implied "immortality" to me. Because Kira Pilots the Freedom and ironically so, because his ideological stance is true freedom where everyone can live freely and happily. Because he is the representation of this idea he cannot die. This is why there is such an emphasis on names especially with the gundams "freedom, justice, aegis, ETc...." Also for some reason, I have noticed that many characters who die in seed tend to be followers of an ideology or are representations of a certain ideology that have been killed by an opposing ideology. For example the reason why Zala dies in SEED is because Kira's idea of Freedom overpowers the masses and kills Zala's idea thus killing Zala himself. As long as people strive and universally believe in a true and free world, Kira idea and by extension Kira remains alive. This is even true with Mu la Flaga, in the first SEED he follows and idea and he perishes, but then in Destiny he embodies an idea thus he lives. I do agree that the fanboyisim of this series is a fucking cancer, and you may not agree with me here with my theroy. But to me this perspective kinda cleared up a lot for me. SEED ain't even my favorite gundam but I like what they did as it made it stand out compared to other gundams.

I'm a huge Gundam SeeD fan but I can't and wont try to argue the points you made in this video because they are mirrors of my own thoughts as I was watching these scenes for the first time. Kira and Shin by all accounts should be dead after that blast. Kira's fight with Shin was so half assed it wasn't even funny. Kira does indeed have the balls to kill when the situation calls for it. Dispite the many flaws and total "are you fucking serious?" moments in the SeeD/Destiny series It's still one of my favorite entries in the Gundam universe.

This battle is indeed bs, and the biggest bs is that explosion, which shouldn't even happen. Why you ask? Nuclear reactors shouldn't explode, never, ever. They can produce deadly radiation when damaged, but not enormous explosion. When I first watched destiny I wished that Kira will kick Shinns ass since I didn't like Shinn from the very first episode, but oh well. I like Kira as character overall, but there's one thing I don't like about him, he is just to stubborn about this 'I don't wanna kill' stuff, some times it is inevitable to kill someone. And that's the main reason for Kira's defeat, it was his major weakness, Shinn exploited it and game over for Kira.

I'm a seed fan but I'm not a Jesus Yamato cult member And I love this anime because for me it is more explainable than any other anime 1. Genetic tampering (Coordinators) explains the learning ability and hair colours 2. Kira has a background in engineering and he has a high learning ability so he does not magically know how to pilot a military machine, he knows cause he reprogrammed the OS 3. Lacus is the daughter of a council member and is a popstar so she actually have the money to develop, build and maintain ships and MS units 4. The bullshit I detected during the battle: 1. The ZGMF-X10A is equipped with a *NEUTRON JAMMER CANCELER* which is basically a *NUCLEAR REACTOR* 2. Said nuclear reactor is *STRAPPED TO THE TORSO FUSELAGE* of the Freedom 3. The sword *IMPALED* the Freedom in the torso causing the reactor to be breached and the reaction uncontrolled. 4. *IF* Kira were to deactivate the NJ-Canceler, it would have taken (assuming it is a Pressurized Water Reactor with Hafnium control rods) 5 seconds for operational shut down, and also would have deactivated the Freedom, leaving it unpowered and falling into the ocean like a rock. And this doesn't account for the decay heat that is still going on in the reactor. 5. Per your explanation, Kira deactivated the NJ-Canceler the instant the sword impaled the Freedom which isn't enough to prevent the explosion from happening. 6. This now comes down to either two things which is either Kira dies of the *NUCLEAR EXPLOSION* which is most likely, or he dies exposed to nuclear radiation as the reactor is *SOMEHOW STILL ATTACHED TO THE TORSO FUSELAGE* which is highly unlikely. 7. But because of *PLOT ARMOR* Kira somehow manages to survive both scenarios and went on to kick Rei and Durandal in thy arse. But even after that, I still love the anime, 10/10 would re-watch. And Kira is still my favorite character. Also, great debunk video!

He could have switched it off way before. The gundam can still function with stored energy. Without the jammer canceller, no nuclear reaction can happen. The only problem is the huge explosion that almost destroyed the impulse with PS armour on. PS armour can stop most missle explosions so explosion from heating up the gundam without any fission reaction shouldn't damage it at all.

After the destruction of Junius 7 through nuclear the warheads of the Alliance, ZAFT put "Neutron Jammers" all over the earth to stop any kind of nuclear reaction from happening. It is mentioned all the time in Seed when they can't establish radio connections becauae the jammers are also affecting radio airwaves. The Freedom is equipped with a "Neutron Jammer Canceller" which means that the Freedon can fully operate with nuclear power as a power source on earth without being fucked by the cancellers. Kira disables the NJC so that the Neutron Jammer can affect the Freedom's reactor hence stopping it from going critical.

I honestly had no idea that there was a cult of Seed fanboys of the highest order until recently. These guys make Gundam fans, like me, look bad! Yes, I liked Seed, I friggin love Wing as well. The Wing Gundam Zero from Endless Waltz is my favorite mobile suit based on it’s angelic looks and it’s firepower, especially from the Glory Of The Losers manga. However, I THOROUGHLY acknowledge Seed and Seed Destiny’s problems. The recycled footage, oh god the footage, the character development, and the plot. But, minus, definitely minus the footage, some of the suits look absolutely amazing in Seed. The Freedom, Strike Freedom, and Destiny look beautiful. Also, yes, I acknowledge the mobile suit design choices for the Destiny as well.

To be fair in Shinn's defense(though saying) Shinn somewhat had a chance against Kira. In honesty in the episode during the fight Athrun talks to Rey(Seed Destiny's version of Rau from regular Seed), did simulations of battles with the Freedom as a test target. Shinn not only used that, he also looked at the past reports about the Freedom's hit ratio from past encounters which showed Kira aiming for the head, arms and legs of the suits while leaving the cockpits in tact.

But honestly, if Shinn ends up becoming very strong at the end of Destiny, that would be OK! Because we would see him rise up from his Low-Point and reach his ultimate power in the Climax. You're most probably right, and that is exactly the problem. They only reason why they kept him alive is for "plot", and keeping the "fan" base from going berserk. This would be acceptable *if* they provided a realistic explanation, supported by actual events. As WackyModder84 mentioned, Sunrise copped out and brought up the whole "turned nuclear drive off instantly" excuse, but whether or not that's plausible, there was still this gigantic explosion that originated from where the Impulse and Freedom fought came from -if not right under Kira's seat- powerful enough to make the Minerva tilt.

Loved it! People often only focus on how Kira survived the explosion but fail to comprehend how it should not have happened in the first place and that Shinn should not have survived it as well. On a side note, please make a video on how Athrun survived the exact same move by Shinn just a couple episodes later.

There are several problems with this video. I know it's 3 years old now, but this is my first time watching it, and it's not like you can necropost a youtube video, so... The Archangel wasn't hit by the Tannhauser. All the Minerva hit was the surface of the water after the Archangel had already descended. The Tannhauser is a positron cannon, meaning when it hits something, the particles and antiparticles annihilate each other. When that happens, there is a tremendous release of energy, which is what caused the huge explosion that buffeted the Minerva. That explosion WAS NOT from Freedom's nuclear reactor. If you look closely, you can see the explosion originated from where the Minerva's beam hit. Slow down the video and see for yourself. The thing is, nuclear reactors ARE NOT nuclear bombs under any conditions. Nuclear fission bombs have to be very carefully designed to achieve that kind of runaway reaction, and puncturing, shooting, or otherwise destroying a reactor designed to generate power cannot result in it becoming a nuclear bomb. It's been some time since I watched Destiny, but if I remember correctly, at the point of Operation Angel Down, the Archangel hadn't decided who was right and who was wrong in the conflict. As such, they were trying very hard to escape ZAFT without engaging them. Kira did his thing of trying to disarm his opponents, but Shinn had prepared, and as such was able to avoid Kira's attacks. You can see Kira becoming flustered when this happens, and as Shinn gains more and more ground, Kira becomes desperate. Only then, backed into a corner, does Kira try to use lethal force. He is so surprised that he fails that he hesitates, and Shinn is able to land a crippling blow on Freedom, destroying the left wing and putting Kira completely on the defensive. There are some other details I like about this battle, but this comment is long enough. I somewhat doubt it'll get seen anyway. I used to be like you and thought this fight was very poorly written, but after I thought about it for a while, and watched it over a few times, I realized that the battle is actually pretty well thought-out and everyone is acting in character. If Destiny had a higher animation budget I'll bet it would be both more clear, and a lot more popular among anime fans. The story had fewer problems than a lot of people think.

product Nine I may not be the best expert on gundam seed, but I do know some points that you should rethink. First, I did reslow down the video to the point where the Tannhauser supposedly hits the Archangel. You might not have caught it at first, but right before it 'hits', you can see the left wing and part of the bridge to the left of the shot (12:56 to be exact) My only real reference other than this is the Gundam wiki (not the best source, I know, but I can't read kanji. Second paragraph; gundam.wikia.com/wiki/Archangel-class#Second_Bloody_Valentine_War) where it states "its outer hull was damaged by the Minerva's Tannhauser main cannon." Putting these two together and the fact there was an explosion, I think it would be more plausible that the water diffused some of the blast, enough to where the archangel was damaged but not destroyed. Second, the nuclear reactors not being nuclear bombs under any conditions. Whether those conditions include being compromised or not, you can't deny Athrun using the Justice's reactor as a nuclear bomb to destroy Genesis. A regular mobile suit bomb wouldn't have done it, but that nuclear explosion did the trick. I don't really know who's at fault for this error, but that was canon in the anime, a nuclear-powered suit being used as a nuclear bomb. Again, not an expert on gundam seed, I like the anime but flaws are flaws.

ThePhoenix743 The case of Justice is the bigger mystery. Actually bigger than that is Aegis self-destructing, as I can't figure out what there is within the suit to cause such a tremendous explosion. I have seen capacitors explode, but Aegis was nearly depleted of power. Miguel's GINN is a similarly interesting case. The near nuclear explosion caused by the near meltdown of the freedoms core before Kira could completely disable the reactor is the obvious reason for that explosion. I've watched this video a couple of times and I still love it upon those multiple viewings. I'm pretty much an all-rounded Gundam fan. I've seen some episodes of the original series, seen pretty much everything from Wing & G Gundam, seen all of Seed, some of Seed Destiny, fell out of the franchise once or twice and I came back watching Gundam Build Fighters. Again, you bring up a lot of valid points about that fight. Also, I do have a question: How do you feel about Build Fighters? I personally think it's a cool show/though it's about 14 episodes in. I like all of the customizable options for gundam kits in this show and the show also gives a chance for past lead gundams to get new model kits/Including the Turn-A Gundam which I want so bad & the Stargazer/Which is my personal favorite mobile suit. I've watched this video 30+ times. I've been trying to wrap my head around the outcome and where the minds of the creative team was. Now, the use of reanimated scenes aside, this battle made sense to an extent if I may say. I won't disagree with you about the facts (nuclear reactor and the impulse surviving), but I think I've figured it out. Shinn was made to win this. It was done half ass, but all directions lead me to believe that the Impulse was meant to take down the Freedom. I think the creative team caved in by serving Kira, and later on Athrun, to Shinn as a way for us to take him more serious as a pilot and a miguided bad guy. If their Gundams were equal in strength, we may not find ourselves surprised by the outcome. But with this being the Impulse, it shocked most of us because we thought God Mode Kira would win. They dumbed Kira up to the point of fighting stupidly while pushing Shinn as an aggressive expert tactician. Obviously Athrun losing to Shinn later would be the same thing, but I digress. Wacky, this may explain this battle just a smidge. Could have been told better, but after thinking about it, I didn't mind this battle as much as I did every Kira vs Shinn battle following.

Moving unto the creativity section lets see where to begin... I know lets begin where Strike Freedoms dragoon wings came from, look up Hi-Nu Gundam. Strike Freedom's belly chest cannon thing came from Sazabi, and his side cannons on his hips I don't know but I know for sure iv'e seen something in the Universal Century that is very similer to it. Oh and those light shield things came from Victory Gundam I'm pretty sure. I think I got a good amount of Gundam references in Strike Freedom I believe I'm done.

There are a few problems I have with this video, the video is right, and I acknowledge when I came out but here’s my list. 1. A Nuke Reactor can be cut off practically immediately though not the traditional kind, thorium reactors work wonders 2. You failed to talk about the fact that Kira had a multi target array that would garuntee at least one crippling shot on the impulse 3. You failed to mention the true reason Kira Jesus Yamato did [not] die three times, the director of gundam seeds wife had a crush on him, and lost her shit when he lost this fight. I sadly have never seen it happen in SEED. Everything I've said, that never comes up. The citizens never do anything about it. Neither do the cast. I agree with what you said, Kira shouldn’t have survived that, and yeah shinn as well. Overall in your opinion what is your favorite gundam or gundams that you like, to me, I like or love the strike freedom and freedom design wise but in action they’re boring and stale, kira’s combat style is just boring, the freedom often is just a flying bipedal multi weapon turret with arms and beam sabers and a shield. For me my favorites are wing zero (tv and endless waltz), full armor gundam from gundam thunderbolt, barbatos 4th form, lupus and Lupus Rex, and some others, but those are the ones that come to my mind first

Its like Kira totally underestimating Shinn the whole fight until Kira keeps getting outplayed over and over with that shield beam reflect and Force Silhouette ram bomber that he decided "Damn this kid outplaying me, i think i need to kill him so i can go back to space to be nekkid with my gf" but Shinn manages to outplay him again by separating his torso to dodge lol. Lol, so many good points. I will admit I still like the show when I was watching it at SEED but that's because it was beginning and are bound to make something that is unbelievable where all you can do is try and take it in stride. Or how I like to call it, it's anime that don't follow the laws of the real world if they want to. That's seem it to be honest and the best explanation for BS scenes like what you showed. Seriously it's anime your supposed to enjoy it and criticize if you want it's your own opinion but I got to admit those guy's took it to far to be honest. Even I admit Strike Freedom isn't the best Gundam. I don't know what the best gundam is but I prefer something more balanced. For instance the 00, to me that seems like a pretty balanced gundam and has plenty of weapons at it's disposal. I also like the Strike Freedom but that just because it looks cool in my eyes to be honest and I started watching gundam when SEED aired, so yeah childhood memories.

You really put your all into this. I agree that Kira could have beaten Shinn if he wasn't paying attention to the ArchAngel and wasn't trying to simple run away. Though it would have been a pretty tough battle with the tactics Shin employed. Would've been one for the highlight books even. Let me just point out some things. The first instance Kira survived -which I presume is the Aegis blowing up- is cause a certain Junk Tech was in the wrong place at the right time. Kira would've died if Lowe didn't rescue him. Second things is that the N-Jammer Canceler doesn't mean anything, its something that prevents fission reactors from being affected by N-Jammers. Think you meant that the Freedom is nuclear powered. Third is that Stella actually died due to the fatal withdraw symptoms of the Extended drugs regardless it was clear Kira meant to put her down. Would've been a mercy killing, actually. Fourth, PS armor can protect against beam weapons which we saw with GENESIS when it took a beam cannon and positron cannon without getting a scratch and it can protect from extreme heat as was shown when the Dreadnaught withstood a small nuclear blast from the Hyperion's critical reactor. Plus the Impulse has Variable PS which who knows how superior it is to the original, they never specified. Finally, and this is pretty fucking stupid, Shinn missed the reactor. Don't know how that's would be possible but it would explain how Kira could've turned it off in time. Why was their a huge ass explosion? Here's my theory: Someone in Sunrise said: "The Freedom is one of the most popular Gundams so it should go out with a HUGE bang even though it would make no sense in the context of events but the fans will love it for the drama." That's my personal theory but, considering Flashback Fukuda's direction with the show, it wouldn't surprise me if there's some truth in that. All that said, I agree. The battle, especially the conclusion, is total bullshit.

I agree with everything you say and I am one of those Kira Yamato fans! I read a good fanfiction once that re-wrote this battle where Kira had gotten so skilled as a MS pilot that his abilities and reaction time where more than the Freedom could keep up with causing the Freedom to start to develop mico fracture throughout its frame whenever he fought with it. When the battle between him and shinn happened the first time shinn blocked his normal attack Kira goes huh, smart guy you did your homework. well guess what I can adapt and proceeds to change tactics and rip the living shit out of shinn. The whole time the freedom is breaking apart around him and by the time they reach the ocean the Freedom is practically falling apart even though shinn only managed to scratch the Freedom once or twice. Then to cover the Archangel's escape Kira self detonates the Freedom Wing style after thanking the Freedom for lending him its power. Luckily Kira survives but only because after the Freedom was wrecked at the end of SEED they installed a pilot ejection system into the Freedom that dumps Kira into the ocean in a life pod just before the reactor goes up. A much better fight than what the original creators wrote, after that chapter the author came back and said the only reason they had Kira lose in the first place was because they needed an excuse to give him the Strike Freedom which was total BS and I have to agree with the author. Anyone who wants a good take on SEED and DESTINY look up the Divinity Saga on Fanfiction, you will not be disappointed I promise.

I know how they survived: they were in such close proximity to one another, that their plot armor overlapped to save both their butts. Lol As for kira "sitting on the reactor", I have a theory. If you look at the "Nuclear Cut Off" switch, there are two buttons that he was pressing. I believe one of those was meant to detonate small charges to separate the reactor from the rest of the suit in the event of an emergency. I know it's not likely, or very smart (there are about a billion ways that could go horribly wrong), but it would make a small amount of sense. As for Shinn? That kid's either dead or has a lethal dose of radiation poisoning. IF he could have survived, he would have to have been able to accelerate to a speed exceeding the velocity of the explosion. Given the state of damage to the Impulse, plus it's orientation relative to the epicenter of the blast: there is NO way he survived unharmed. Still it's just a cartoon show, so just enjoy giant robots make stuff go BOOOM! ;3

Vince Floris Freedom's nuclear reactor did not explode. Fission reactors do not become fission bombs when punctured. The explosion was from the Minerva's Tannhauser hitting the surface of the ocean. If you slow the video down, you can see the Minerva's beam in the same shot as the explosion, and when the 'camera' pans over, you can see that the explosion originated where the Minerva shot. See for yourself.

The Archangel had descended under the surface of the ocean in time to avoid taking the brunt of the shot. The explosion was a result of particle mutual annihilation caused by the Tannhauser, a positron cannon. When a particle and and anti-particle collide, they annihilate one another and release a tremendous amount of energy (including gamma rays, same as a nuclear blast). There is a reason the Archangel crew generally avoids using the positron cannons while in atmosphere: it is very bad for the environment. The Minerva crew uses it all willy-nilly because they are spacemen and don't care about the Earth, I guess. Also, you can see the beam from the Minerva hitting where the explosion originated. Slow down the episode and see for yourself. Anyway, fission reactors DO NOT become fission bombs when destroyed. That isn't how it works. My guess is Kira killed the reactor to prevent contamination. As for why the Impulse was damaged, you can see that when Shinn impaled Freedom, Kira still managed to stick the beam saber in the Impulse's head.

So Impulse being melted is the cause of freedom beam saber and even losing an arm, the fuck is wrong with you a beam saber can't warp a mobile suit to point that it looks melted.

SEED and SEED Destiny have sentimental value to me for being my first Gundam series (Although to be fair I did see SEED at the same time that Toonami was showing G Gundam reruns as well as Endless Waltz, so technically it's tied with those two as well). What I enjoyed about SEED was the interpersonal conflicts that arose, and while I do agree with how people feel about Kira, I can't really complain too much about him and still like similar characters such as Saber from the Fate franchise. About the suits themselves, I always viewed them more as the physical embodiment of the character's ideals, such as Kira wanting everyone to live in peace (hence the name Freedom). But since Gundam is a Real-Robot franchise and not a Super-Robot one, the mechanical arguments are valid. I do remember Heero Yui pulling off a self-destruct that not only failed to self-destruct the Gundam but also failed to damage Heero in any way, so I think that Gundam occasionally has a Michael Bay complex about the ability to survive unnecessary explosions.

Fission reactions are much easier to manage. As unlike fusion its not pressure active reaction. If a nuclear fission reaction gets breached it won't go critical. If a fusion reaction gets breached all that would happen is a pressure explosion( like what happened in 0079 with the Zaku).

xSkye629x Kira could not have lived at all, his reactor was hit it would have caused a nuclear explosion because of Seed knowledge when Athrun blew up the Justice to cause a "nuclear explosion" His phase shift was still on and his beam saber is still on when he got hit, beam sabers in the cosmic era draws power from the suits reactor, it does not have built in battery supply. Also if Kira did turn off his reactor he would have got hit by the positron explosion seeing how Minerva fired before he got stabbed. Either way Kira is dead.

I will admit to being a fan of Gundam SEED. It was the first Gundam series I ever fully experienced (having only seen snippets of Wing here and there) and I do like Kira and the Freedom (the Freedom actually being my absolute favourite gundam). I admit there were a ton of flaws with the series (repeat animation, rinse, reskin, repeat) but I still enjoy it for what it is. That being said, the moment I first saw that battle I was calling bullshit too. The Freedom is clearly the superior model and Kira's experience trumps Shinn's in every way. And even in my naïve childhood watching both SEED and SEED Destiny, I knew something didn't add up about Kira surviving those two one v one duels (I can kind of buy the second one at the end of SEED, but barely). After all, Wacky makes the point clear as day for both battles; Kira was sitting in the middle of the explosion's epicentre. How the flying fuck he survived the Aegis still baffles me to this day, but you can't deny the logic Wacky brought about the Freedom/Impulse battle. So I can definitely understand and agree with this video. And to those Jesus Yamato people saying the Strike Freedom is the best gundam bar none, that's being childish and spitting bullshit. The Strike Freedom is OP as shit, but in a fight it'd probably have trouble with the Nu Gundam and the 00 Qan[T], and having looked it up, the Turn A would definitely wreck the Strike Freedom's shit. And the OP-ness of the Strike Freedom is actually why I prefer the original Freedom; you actually see it take more the mere cosmetic damage, which means even an ace pilot in a machine like that would need to be on their toes and fully focussed, unlike the Strike Freedom where any person could slip in and fly through a battle blasting everything without a scratch. O.O Wow, I could've made my own rant video on the subject typing like that.

Kira was supposed to die that day but because of some diehard pissed off fans seed destiny became what we know it to be now and its sad, because shinn had alot of potential, i still see him as a good character...but he could have been so much better. After he got the Destiny, he let Rey talk him into anything. N-Jammers require suspension of disbelief, but since the beginning of SEED, they have operated on the same principle - they stop nuclear fission from occurring. When Kira shuts off the Freedom's N-Jammer Canceller, the effect of N-Jammers instantly come into play, stopping the Freedom's nuclear reactor from going critical and exploding (not physically possible, but neither are N-Jammers or big walking military machines with miniaturized nuclear reactors and plasma beams). An emergency cutoff for a nuclear reactor in the Cosmic Era wouldn't rely on control rods, but rather just shutting off the N-Jammer Canceller. The massive explosion was a result of the Minerva's Tannhauser beam hitting the water, which enveloped both the Freedom and Impulse. We don't see if the Freedom even explodes, though it may have had a smaller battery onboard that was damaged. Kira surviving is improbable, but he does have a) plot armor (as a protagonist), b) an advanced Gundam that has a nuclear reactor and probably safety features to deal with it, and c) the main explosion was fairly far away from both the Freedom and Impulse.
