Most cultures have foods that are associated with them and celebrated. Fried chicken is delicious and watermelon besides being delicious looks beautiful next to our dark skin. We need to take back the narrative on foods that sustained our ancestors and represent our culture with pride and dignity.We don’t need other peoples approval. We should not allow ourselves to be shamed or shame others for enjoying our culinary history. I don’t see other ethnic groups being taught to distain the food of their people. Why are Black children taught to read into negative stereotypes types instead of positively sharing the enjoyment with classmates? Do the children with Mexican heritage turn their nose up at tacos on Cinco de Mayo? Food, sports,and the arts are historically bridges between different cultures and communities. Our food is a bridge that should not be burned.

And/or we can just be unbothered when stupid people say stupid ish and actually focus our energy on important things... but we won't.

Great reply! Black people are the only people in the US where something becomes negative just by association with us. That's how much people have been taught to hate us.

@@chocolatecosmos1424 Our job is not to get distracted by their hatred!!! Get our s*** done and let them talk, because if they're talking, they ain't doing!

Personally I’m not offended I love watermelon 🍉 and Fried Chicken 🍗….although I prefer baked chicken as the healthier option!

I think this is a good stereotype. However, like with everything else, it could be twisted to be an insult.

It's delicious food, so insult us by saying our food is good tasting?
@TheEmpiricistNetwork2 ай бұрын
It's offensive due to the fact such a diet was forced (along with other cheap foods)...

Options were very limited but Black people made the best of what they had. It turned into a hit

What you said: “who doesn’t love fried chicken and watermelon” - if you’re from the south - I don’t care what you look like. You know it’s good. 1) Watermelon is awesome AROUND the world is the bomb. 2) People from the south know how to fry delicious chicken. Thank you for the video and thought provoking information. Had not known this as a white dude. I appreciate your sharing your perspective yet, It saddens me. What was done is clearly wrong. What hurts is how it’s passed down. The pain of being. My friend, many many people of all colors love you and some who don’t. But know we know it’s wrong. Thank you again. But I know many, many people who are not black that if

I never understood the fried chicken and watermelon stereotype. Doesn’t everyone love fried chicken and watermelon? Is this any different than saying Italians love pasta? It shouldn’t be, but it is.
@BlackExcellenceMedia2 ай бұрын
That's why it's so stupid. It's not about the food, it's about finding a way to suggest Black people are beneath others

I never had fried chicken and watermelon (not including grape soda) at the same time until I was 35. I'm 42 now.
