Just as a heads up for anyone who may not know, the x100v is definitely the hot camera right now due to TikTok and videos like this, but the film simulation is possible with every (I think) Fujifilm camera on the market today. I wanted an x100v but the fixed lens turned me off, started looking at the X-E4 but it was also getting crazy, ended up getting an X-T30 II and love it

I bought mine used for $1100 on Facebook when it came out. Perfect condition too. I'm not selling, it's so much fun to shoot with, and the gems I get with family and friends are priceless. The major pros are a quiet leaf shutter, a built-in ND filter, and recipes. Great for beginners and Pros. This camera doesn’t intimidate anybody, and you get a better photo than a larger camera.

I got the X100F and V before all the hype. At the time it was an experiment as i was really into film photography but struggling to justify the costs of film and development, I read about the simulations "i know every fuji has them" but the fixed lens is what made me pull the trigger. I wanted something with the least amount of distractions ie: Gas for more lenses and then spending more time choosing what to bring on a shoot. the 35mm fixed lens challenged me and made me work for my photos and i really enjoy and feel rewarded from that that. In short, this camera makes me want to go out an take photos and i enjoy doing it. i use this camera more then my Z7 now.

I’ve been shooting Fuji professionally since 2018. Started with the XT2 and X100F, now I shoot with the XT5 and the X100V. I got lucky and got the V right before it went viral. I love it. The lens alone was worth the upgrade from the F. Massive sharpness improvement. I would love the X100VI but for now I’m super happy with my X100V. I just did a whole family shoot with it and it was flawless. Lovely little camera with insanely good results.

An extra sweetener on this camera is the leaf shutter (possible with the fixed lens) which gives an interesting new workflow to utilize the internal flash in harsh daylight since that supports up to 1/2000s shutter speed with full aperture

As someone who overpaid for one, you're exactly right. It's all in the nuance. Yes there's other small cameras out there, but do they have fuji's film recipes. Yes there's other fuji cameras out there, but do they have an OVF. I know not everyone cares about OVFs (and in that case go for an X-T30), but having film recipes that make the JPGs turn out great and an optical viewfinder means that I don't need to fiddle with ANY menus or digital screens. I leave the screen off, take a snap and move on, just like you would with film. Pair that with the V's ability to automatically send the photos taken to your phone (and have them automatically show up in your Google Photos app with proper dates and geolocations) and there is no comparison on the market.
@professionalpotato4764
@professionalpotato4764 Жыл бұрын
I found the OVF distracting. The frame lines jump around when autofocusing to compensate for parallax. I wish it just slides to the new position instead of jumping around. To date in terms of OVF experience, nothing comes close to a vintage SLR or Leica. Also, the weird default setting of having the teleconverter tied to the focus ring. OMG that gave me such a headache. And I own the X-T4 thinking the menus should be the same. Oddly enough, both are X-Trans4, but the X100V has less jpeg settings than the X-T4.

Rented both the x100v and GRiii, bought the GR right after. The GR wins hands down in terms of handling, performance to size ratio, and more importantly how it doesn't get in the way. Oddly, the x100v had some weird settings like the focus ring was tied to the teleconverter? It was so frustrating to work things out (as an X-T4 user too). The jumping frame lines when focusing from near/far felt weird. Also IBIS. I will never buy a camera without IBIS.

It completely replaced my aging X-Pro2 which was promplty put on the block. I have the WCL and the TCL but find them cumbersome and fuzzy to install. OTOH, the digital tele conversion to 50 and 70 mm is a superb feature that the X100T didn't have. I need to check if you are right with Color Chrome Effect, but if I am not totally wrong, it was about red colors? Now I am super unsure 😂 Edit: "Color Chrome aims to produce deeper colours and a wider range of tones in subjects such as flowers and bright landscapes. Traditionally, when shooting scenes like this in high-contrast conditions, colours can easily become oversaturated and look artificial. Color Chrome aims to fix this by reproducing high-contrast without over-cooking the colours." Straight from Fuji.

So cool, seeing Matti so hyped about a small little camera. Well, there's much more to it. I shoot Architecture and Cityscapes for a living for more than 10 years. What was Post-Production, processing RAW-files in the past is now "pre-production". Once I know what the client wants, I use FUJI film simulations (plus some of the extra parameters) and then the .RAF file I shoot in parallel is only the backup. The final works come sooc . Selection, sometimes minor corrections like removing of some unwanted object and done ! All X- and GFX-cameras work like this. For me it was a game changer ... :-)

@@JeyPeytey yes, indeed. There is no rational explanation for buying 3yo camera which has doubled its price due to the hype. I think that in such case it would be better to recommend some other, cheaper Fuji options which provides same effects, than bumping that hype even more :)

@@b-art. You're totally right. The hype is dumb. Look for other Fuji cameras people :) They also deserve love 😅 There's one made for your use for sure

Fujifilm's film simulations have always been epic. Being an X shooter for many years now, I like many went down the rabbit hole of custom simulations and the array of film simulations out of the box. Nowadays I can't look past Provia with some minor adjustments in Lightroom. Different kind of gravy.

As a Fuji shooter (and owner of the X100F) since 2018, the hype around the X100V is both understandable and weird at the same time. Weird as in 1) what took all of you so long? and 2) why the X100V specifically? I moved from Canon to Fuji in early 2018, initially thinking that the X100F would liberate me. It did do that, but mostly in terms of inspiration and workflow (i.e. shooting JPEG without the dread of needing Lightroom). While I still have and love my X100F, it is Fuji's smaller size, inspiring analog experience, and SOOC colors that I love more than any specific Fuji camera body (though the X-Pro3 is my favorite). I quickly ended up gravitating back to interchangeable lens cameras (though exclusively Fujis). I currently shoot mostly with the X-Pro3, which is more perfect than the X100V in all respects, except for the larger size and lack of leaf shutter (something I almost never need anyway).

It’s such an amazing travel camera especially for photography. It’s just a few years old and I hope the next model has ibis and the xh2/xt5 autofocus improvements

I drank the Koolaid and got one Oct 2022. Was my 1st Fuji. I wanted to see what the buzz was all about. I shoot full frame for my portrait business. I wanted a camera that the recipes were so dialed in that I didn’t need to edit. Well, after 3 mths I became a HUGE believer in the Fuji system. I bought a X-H1 and 1 lens, which turned into 3 lenses. Wellllll. I loved the IQ, the size and weight so I did the unthinkable. I sold the X100v and X-H1 to fund a X-H2. I have to say the XH2 is my all time fav camera to use. I am using it 90% of the time for my shoots. There is a time and place for the Full Frame but for general person project/artistic shoots, Fuji is amazing !!!!! Is it perfect?? NOOO! Is this a DAMM GOOD system? Yes!!! I am now on a 2-3 yr plan to get a GFX100.

Step 1: Learn how to develop your self at home.. Step 2: Buy a Mamiya RB67 (medium format) Step 3: Take the best photos ever... (Owning the c70, R5C and the R3... but still more impressed by the Mamiya) Bonus: The developing is pure therapy and a break from everything else. Nice video as always, keep it up :)

Great review! One additional awesome thing about the x100 series is the fast flash sync with the leaf shutter.

You can dial in a look on other cameras too but Fuji being a film manufacturer is the only one that has ready made film simulations.

This is cool. If you set your recipe on one film simulation, does it affect the other film simulations? Second question : Does this recipe + film simulation also work the same way in the xt30ii and xt5? (I come from Canon and have no knowledge of Fuji, but very keen to get one to bring on holidays instead of my workhorse Canon)

I love the hybrid viewfinder. My first interchangeable camera was mirrorless. I never realized what I was missing with the optical viewfinder and now I get it in a small package. As soon as I hear about an xpro 4 with fujis new auto focusing system, I’m getting one of those too

To me, the optical viewfinder, used judiciously, is also a great "filter" for truly good subject matter and composition. In the EVF, a shallow depth of field or fancy color profile can mask a mediocre scene, while the OVF is unforgiving in that regard. Also a good way to train your imagination, forcing you to think how you want to see and show your subjects.

I've not used mine nearly enough, but watching this and looking back through my older images (I used to shoot everything on Fuji, now Sony), I'm getting pretty nostalgic for it. Might be tempted to go back to Fuji for all my photography shooting - I just don't get the same feel from a Sony.

OK, Matti, Lizzie Perce... who's next on discovering the Fuji 🙂 Oh well, I'd like to have this one and I had plans to buy it (while it was available), but every time I came back from a street shoot or whatever I was photographing, the images from my trusty Fuji X-70 are still amazing. This is a smaller camera with 18mm f2.8 and a bit older .everything, but all the sims are there, loads of customization - and - and, guys, no matter which Fuji you might get, go search for Kevin Mullins special settings (recipes..) because they are an amazing start to exploring the creative side of you. I've tweaked these a lot but ended up using like 80% of what Kevin set from the beginning. His work is impeccable, great website, fine newsletter.

I appreciate the good words you put for X100V, personally I own a Fuji X-30II which allows changing the lens. Using the pancake 27mm lens I (and many others) believe it is as good (and cheaper!). Still, many thanks for sharing your thoughts and great video (your channel is great!!). Regards from the Israel.
