When you look at the technology they utilize, it makes it even harder to understand how Hamas breached their border using some tractors and motorcycles. Even if Israel intelligence didn't see this coming, I don't understand how Hamas was able to physically ingress so far into Israel.

Here are some more unstated reasons for the IDF's success. 1. Everyone who is conscripted starts off as a private. No one begins as an officer. All the generals started as privates. 2. One can only move up in rank based solely on merit. All soldiers are taught to think independently to solve situational challenges and think "outside the box". 3. Rank is secondary. All officers are encouraged to listen to subordinates for other ideas. The old concept of "4 heads are better than one". 4. Because the IDF conscripts from the entire eligible population, it has the ability to discern the various skills and talents of their recruits and place them in those forces that best match their intelligence and skill sets. 5. Officers always lead first in a fight. That's why their officer casualty rate is higher than other armies. 6. They have to win because they have no other choice.

Curiously... in Brazil it is impossible for privates to rank up to officers... I mean... they can become officers... but they don't do so by "ranking up". Because officers are another career path... As in, they need to get in by standardized testing(and have a undergraduate degree), like everyone else. The real reason the IDF is so effective is the spirit of the IDF soldiers - the strive to success and tenacity to the mission is the primary value of the IDF soldier. There is not such thing as "we can't do it", instead they say "there must be some way to do it, we just have to figure out how". This spirit runs deep in the IDF, from the front line soldier aiming to advance in the battlefield, to the soldier at the headquarters planning the next technological development. It's about moving forward where most others would give up. Unlike other armies who send their troops forward to die for some vague geopolitical cause, or just deep hatred for the enemy, the IDF soldier knows his war is always just - defending his family, his friends his your neighbors from an enemy which seeks to carry out a second holocaust on his nation. In such a situation there is no choice but to be the best.

Firstly Merkava has a batle kit design to be attached in the bottom front part if it goes to Battle against modern tanks, upper front has same resilience as other western MBTs. no, Iron Beam won't remove the need for rocket based defence systems... for example, it's a defence system against short range (e.g. Qassam, Katjusha and Grad rockets) and slow moving threats (especially drones), but it surely can't replace the missile defence systems David's Sling and Arrows3. Also, the laser isn't really effective in clouds, therefore they still need Iron Dome on rainy days. So, Iron Beam will be a very useful addition and improvement, but not replacement, for the existing missile-based defence systems. The IDF have a operational pecking order based on ground level skill & experience. Not rank. This is one of the main reasons they operate so successfully. I met an IDF loadmaster sergeant who explained this. The soldier with the skill or experience in thier field calls the shots. In the heat of battle their decisions cannot be over ruled, by even a high ranking officer.

Absolutely not. The highest rank calls the shots. Otherwise it's chaos. The difference from other armies is that the ranks are right there to call the shots. Generals are clearing door to door, fighting shoulder to shoulder with privates. IDF's clear dogma is "leadership from the front", not from a safe place.
