What is even more exciting is that Apple has insured Accessibility out of the box, even for people with a print disability. I need no help setting up my phone out of the box. I use a feature called voice over under Accessibility. Stop assuming, yes, I am blind and I can use my phone just like anybody else thanks to this feature 👍

Honestly, I’ve always preferred the smaller phones just so that it’s easier to use one handed. That’s pretty cool to find out that Steve Jobs kept iPhones small for so long for that reason, I never knew that. My hands aren’t small or even smaller than most people, just average for a 20-something person. But I still found myself using reachability often. I just got a 13 pro max a few days ago to continue photography with, and I have to say I was really nervous about the size of it. I don’t prefer larger phones for the same reason mentioned in the video - being cumbersome. But it’s actually not bad. Reachability continues to bring the screen down far enough that I can still reach things. I have to stretch my hand a just tiny bit, but that’s still not bad. 😁

I've been using this feature for years, especially when I'm in bed recovering from a hangover and too tired and messed up to type with two hands. It's the first thing I searched for when Apple ditched the original home button. I love the feature, it's even better then tapping the home button twice. BTW I think they also mentioned it in their Keynote when delivering the first iPhone without home button.

As cool and smooth as apple's implementation was, i feel like samsung's one handed mode felt much more comfortable to use. instead of shrinking to become a square, the screen would shrink to a corner, but keep the aspect ratio, allowing the phone to still be used normally instead of a weirdly squished display in my opinion.

Accessibility software on all platforms is something great and I am glad that it is being noticed. 15 years ago I attended my first workshop on accessibility software and was amazed with a lot of the technologies of the time. At that time when I thought of accessibility software I only thought of screen readers like JAWS or Orca. Now there’s a variety of software, fonts, and hardware that makes computing accessible. This also comes to Mmmm s that we need to make our websites and applications more accessible and that should be the focus.

This feature also exists in Samsung devices for many years (Not sure about rest of the Androids), you have to enable it in settings. It can be activated by swiping diagonally from one of the bottom corners. It is called the one handed mode. It reduces the screen diagonally which is better since it maintains the aspect ratio. Hence the on screen content does not get blocked by the decreasing vertical length. It basically makes your phone act like a smaller phone.

I recently became an iphone user and I actually like it. One thing I wish ios had similar to android (maybe only pixel) is the "back" gesture. In pixel when you swipe from left to right or right to left it goes one page back no matter what app you are on. Most ios apps these days do that but as soon as you go a few layers in you cant swipe back anymore but instead bring the page down and press the back icon. it'd be great to see apple adding that gesture feature. The drop down make up for it but it'd be great to have both.

So like half of the screen stopped working on the top half of my old phone like a few weeks ago, and this came in so handy, it saved me for so long until my old phones touch screen didn’t work completely

I’ve never noticed this feature. Sure, I’ve realized that it goes down, but I’ve never really discovered what it’s supposed to be used for. I am going to be using this a lot more often now that I am on winter break and have more time to do things in bed or have things in my hand while using my phone. Thank you for giving us an explanation for this or I probably wouldn’t have known what to do.

I've been using this feature all the way back in 2013/2014 with Windows phone but the One UI version is arguably the best implementation of this feature.

I use that feature every single day and I’m surprised that people don’t know what this is. It’s incredibly useful while on the street, when your hands are busy and all that. Like Assistive Touch in the Apple Watch.

For anyone wondering, this feature will not work if you replaced your home button (since the original one is linked to the board, thus has the touch id working too, however the copy one isn't linked to the board and touch id won't work)

I always wondered why it did that. As for Android phones, I couldn’t care less about the bigger display. I switched to Apple because there just wasn’t enough storage on Android. Everyone says oh, you can add cards. But the only thing you could put on the cards was music and pictures. I want space for apps, not music and pictures. I don’t know if Samsung has changed that because you couldn’t pay me to own a Samsung anything, no matter what features it has!
@-4023-
@-4023- 2 жыл бұрын
you can add apps to cards if you enable dev mode, your device should be fine as long as the only apps you put are socials and medias, like snapchat, insta, twitter, netflix, hulu and stuff like that, but I would understand staying with iPhone.

Staying with iPhone is fine but the reasons you listed aren't right. Storage capabilities are definitely better for Android, you just gotta tinker with it a little. But I know not everyone's into that.

If you want the story short basically Apple wanted people to be able to use the whole screen without moving your hand so they made the drop down feature so you didn't have to move your hand.

I find this much easier to do with a proper home-button. I always hit something else or I have to do it twice because I fail sometimes. This is why I miss daily driving my iPhone 6. Very easy to use with one hand.

Simple, it’s "reachability" mode, you can turn it off or on in accessibility. But, when you slide down on the line (that you use to exit any apps), it makes the touchscreen be "halved" so you can easily reach the areas you need to interactive with if your hands are small and can’t reach the full area of the screen.
