I made this video before the current stress test which appears to have added an unstuck feature. I'm very glad they did so. I also do not think growth is unfixable. I think devs should try and go for other methods of improvement to differentiate their games further and provide more options for the community, but I know that Afterthought will never change their overall goal, and that's fine. I think if anyone can do it well, it's The Isle, and I really hope that my criticisms will be mute in the future.

I would stop playing if they removed the Growth System, I want a "realistic" experience and having different sized Dinosaurs of the same species increases immersion for me. I also enjoy being able to hunt juvies as a juvie or smaller Dino, I even enjoy being the "scavenger" in the juvie stage.

honestly atm the thing that would fix the current growth system is decrease the amount of food u need for a diet and make it go from 1.5x faster to like 5x faster

I don't agree with you on this one getting rid of growth would make the game even more stagnant then it already is growing gives the player a goal to look forward to and forces players to act more carefully in and out of fights since losing a dino means having to start over again. Having no growth would make the whole game one giant deathmatch. And even tho I don't like the devs I have to give them credit for actually adding/developing new mechanincs such as migration nesting mutations etc. to make the game more interactive and fun for their playerbase. And minor problems such as juvies having a hard time hunting ai can be solved easly and the devs are currently working on it if I am not wrong

I have never viewed growing as an issue, if anything being kinda helpless at the start is kinda fun, if I can get back most of my progress after I die, then I will never really care about dying.

Instead of removing growth how about making it interesting. I completely agree that just waiting to be ready to play is awful so there should be stuff for juveniles to do. They should have means to survive the adults, such as designated landscapes, the Isle tried this with the sancturaries but they are to small and to few. There should be dense undergrowth and mangroves covering like 20% of the map to allow both juvies and small species to thrive. Also there could be smal AI creatures to hunt, challenging but not impossble, the lizards in Saurian are a good example. Flyers could have flying insects to chase and catch, there could be small jump and runs to get to locations faster and safer for juvies etc etc. Basically: fill the game with minigames to both entertain and train you while you grow. I hope this is what PoT is trying to do with their quest rework they are planning.

Im aware they are actively working on a long term game loop (this will give the players more goals to achieve) but other than nesting, mutstions, elders, i still feel like we need more to do...

It’s not so much the idea of growth I don’t like, it’s that these games think starting out as a USELESS FUCKING BABY IS ENGAGING.

Instead of arguing to remove growth I feel it would make more sense to make the growth to 50% significantly faster than what we currently have because I do agree that the growth is pretty bland and boring but once you’re at the sub-adult stage you can actually start playing the game.

Interesting take! I personally think that growth is both cool and workable but agree that it is a little flawed in its current state. Growth should, for the most part, follow the "I can kill what I cant outrun, and outrun what I can't kill" rule. So for example a juvenile tyrannosaurus is much weaker than most adult carnivores but has far greater speed, I will say that hatchlings being slow and weak actually adds something to the game, relying on remaining unseen while you crouch motionless in fear of a larger animal can be really fun in my personal opinion, and would be made better if once you get past the hatchling early juvie stage you become a much more competent animal. One final point here is that being useless as a hatchling makes being nested actually worth something.

Most of these issues seem fixed tho with the hordetest (such as AI having baby version that are much slower and easier to kill, boar is also seemingly more rare to run into), as for "nothing you can do" , i agree with that if you are playing the way the game wants you to play, because sanctuary's are kinda flawed, but if you use common sense, and go elsewhere you can grow relatively easy, and even for free. Tho i do agree it is currently flawed i think it only is because of lack of activities (and im not talking collecting sticks like PoT) Personally ive had the idea to do something more with tracking, and even introduce a form of crafting (instead of building a nest, u could build a shelter of some sorts, like a small burrow, that only you fit into and big carnis cant reach for) i think there are many things that can be added, but im always afraid they will add the wrong things to pleasure the "i want action now" crowd, and miss the subtle things they could add that would make it more immersive and gives you something to do. (scratch trees to mark territory for example , extended scent system so tracking could be actually done, would actually call it "tracking" system more, as id love to see little clue's in the enviroment aswell, blood on a leaf , long lasting prints idk you name it.

I've always enjoyed the growth aspect of this game especially coming from legacy. Some of my most memorable moments playing have been defending my young pack members, hunting another packs young, and just meeting people through occasional nesting and protecting. I like having the occasional goal of helping someone else out reach adulthood, though on offical Evrima servers it's been a pretty rare occasion. I also believe it gave threatening dinosaurs more of a presence first seeing them in an area just due to the fact you wouldnt see them very often. I just think there needs to be more to do, and maybe humans will bring some of that gameplay?
