Israel and Palestine jump from crisis to crisis, but a string of deadly attacks over the past few weeks has raised fears the Holy Land is spiralling toward unrelenting bloodshed, with speculation it is on the brink of an intifada - a Palestinian uprising or, literally, a 'shaking off' of Israeli control.
Subscribe to Guardian News on KZbin ► bit.ly/guardianwiressub
The first two uprisings failed to end the occupation, with several thousand people killed, mostly Palestinians. Some believe a third intifada has already started.
But what makes the decades-old conflict so complex? The Guardian's Jerusalem correspondent, Bethan McKernan, examines the key figures and issues at play - and looks at why experts fear peace is further away than ever.

The conflict will be way less complicated to you if you study the history, needs and concerns on both sides of the conflict. But that's a problem. For some weird reason, everybody seems to choose a position and either become violently anti-Israel or obnoxiously anti-Palestine. It is those who want 100% recognition and zero concessions -those who don't really even want to move forward- who say it's a complicated never ending story. Because that serves their purpose.

"Why the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is so complicated" It isn't complicated. And it isn't a "conflict". This was best expressed by Michael Brooks: "It's not a complex issue that's the big thing. It's super simple. There's one group that has enormous power, it's the most powerful country in the Middle East, it's backed by the United States, it acts on another population of people with total impunity, is never held accountable for anything. So, there's no symmetry in the relationship, period."

I would say a bit slanted against Israel. She is correct that settlements have continued (though at a faster pace under Likud) but she is not correct in suggesting that Israeli governments over the last 30 years have been against a two state solution. The US got Israel (under Barak) to make that deal at Camp David but Arafat rejected it. Also no mention that Israel turned over governing Gaza to the Palestinians in 2005, that Hamas (Gaza's governing authority) explicitly dedicates itself to Israel's destruction nor mentions Oct 7. Israel does not have clean hands nor is morally pure by any means. But a great newspaper needs to be a bit more objective and not selective in reporting history

i think maybe you should check what those proposals that Israel had for Palestine contained as restrictions. This was also done 9 months ago FYI so no 7th of october. and they didnt "turn over" gaza because they wanted to, look that up also . just for your sake, dig deeper than the titles and the surface and you will find what she is saying as a specialist is true

Britain and France that is the answer, creating borders that never existed before. I have no issue with Israel existence, but Israel is moving towards an apartheid state and their demands for Palestine's independence acceptance is crazy. What country would entirely give another nation the right to run their security forces through their territory.

It's not complicated at all. There is a victim whose land is being usurped and occupied forcefully since 1948 and there is a cruel occupier who kills children women and civilians constantly while stealing their resources and their land . Palestinians are now living every 4 people in 1m2 because of the israeli attacks on gaza ( the criminals have thrown 6000 bombs on gaza in only one week ) But sadly we live in a hypocritical society where people symphasize with "european" ukranians against Russia but deny pelestine's right to resist a colonization that stands since 70 years . Neutrality is also wrong . Every human must stand with PALESTINE 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

It's not "complicated" if you are student of ancient history and archeology. There are no Kings of "Palestine". There are no edda's or poetry from any "Palestine" culture. There are no "Palestine" ruins or temples. There are no "Palestine" pottery or coinage. There are no "Palestine" artifact or clay tablets. There are no "Palestine" ancient languages or script. There is no historical or archeological evidence that there ever was "Palestine" country, nation or peoples. It is the name of a REGION. Like the "Sahara" or the "Great Steppes" or the "Amazon".

This is a classic double standart of west country about conflict around the world, the one year plus conflict in ukraine is more important than 60+ years conflict of israel-palestine, why? Because in the ukraine war Russia is the aggresor and in the israel-palestine you all know israel is the a aggresor (you can see what that country do to palestine people now, what that country do is more barbaric than Russia)

Maybe there can be a bi-national state with Palestine and Jordan in the West Bank and a bi-national state with Egypt and Gaza? Israel could keep the most strategic settlements (the high places) and the rest are given to the Palestinians with Jordan overseeing security. Jerusalem would be jointly secured by Israel and Jordan.
