“Just charge it when you get home” you said, umm! 37% of properties in the UK don’t have a driveway. In Towns and Cities it’s even higher because of the prevalence of flats etc. So if you can’t charge at work what do you do? Abandon your bike somewhere on a street charger if you could find one? I don’t think so cos it won’t be there when you get back.

I like what harley is doing with electric bikes. I can understand them having them under a different name as well. That's a nice looking bike and would make a great commuter. Only problem for me would be getting to the twisties for a blast. Pricewise it's not too bad if you consider savings in fuel and maybe less overall maintenance costs except there's a big question mark over the battery in that regard. The weight drop from the first one is quite significant too which is a huge plus.

If there is a place electric bikes can gain more popularity and become available price-wise for broader audience, it's big cities and I'm happy producers are going that way. One thing I would like to see in the specs sheet is city range in cold and warm weather, as season in climate similar to UK's could start in April and endwell into November. Price is still a problem for me but it someone can afford it, it looks like a great every day rider.

Nice one Bob ! I understand manufacturers of EVs don't recommend you charge above 80% or drop below 20%, for battery longevity; is the max range based on the 60% band of battery charge or a theoretical 100% to 0% battery usage... that they don't actually recommend? I wish they'd be more transparent as it only leads to disappointment for many owners when they find out the truth after purchase. 🤔

Not having L3 fast charging is a deal breaker for any electric bike. Where electrics fall short is longer range highway riding. You might say motorbikes are functionally best for urban riding, but the dream and salespitch of motor cycle riding has mostly been to sell that sense of freedom; to go where you want. This isn't possible with a bike that can only go 60 miles. And for the price of $20k, it's not really like you're going to buy this as a 2ndary bike next to your tourer bike. For that amount of money you'd want a bike that can do both. Now the fix to all of this was L3 charging which the first LiveWire has. You can go out on trips, and even if the mileage is only 60 miles, it doesn't matter because with fast modern charging you could be topped off within 10 minutes. The above might a moot point for the USA market where charging points outside or cities might be further apart than 60 miles anyway so this bike wouldn't suit longer trips there anyway. But in Europe where everything is a lot denser and charging points are everywhere, missing out on L3 completely destroys the appeal of this bike to a large target audience. And in turn, makes it a fancy €20k motorcycle only used for commuting. A usecase for which it competes with €3k e-bicycles and cheap modern €20k nissan leafs which can perform double duty as secondary "grocery shopping cars".

I own Teslas. Lithium ION batteries like to be kept in the 20-80% range for longevity, not 0-100% range. The LFP(lithium IRON) batteries love 0-100%, but heavier and just becoming more popular. Lithium IRON longevity is much longer than Lithium ION

The thing that gets me is when a range is stated as say 110 miles. Is that using 100-0% battery? Or, is it using the often touted 80-20%? Because 80-20 is only 60% useable capacity of the battery pack. This bike is quite stylish and a fair bit cheaper than the S1 I have to say.
@cable1722 Жыл бұрын
The range quote is 100% to 0%. I don't see 80% to 20% very often but 20% to 80% is frequently used to give you an idea of charge time with EVs. 20%, because that's a reasonable safety margin and 80% because above that most EVs slow down the charge significantly so it makes sense to move on. Realistically, you leave home at 100%, run it down to 10% and recharge up to 80%. So you can use 90% on your first leg and 70% of the max range after that. Saying that. If this bike doesn't have DC rapid charging it won't really slow down above 80%, so you may as well charge for longer at a stop, but it does suggest it'd be a big pain to do any journeys with more than one leg in per day.

If you watch the video you can surmise that you can basically buy this for commuting, vs having something that 10000 other people have. If you aren't a motorcycle enthusiast you are probably going to have a relatively safe ride(no gears), each 'fill up' will be like a dollar, so cheaper on the daily. Never really have to stop at a charging station(for daily use). Plenty of reasons, they just may not be reasons for YOU.

Because the company is being honest about the limitations of the vehicle, doesn't mean that it's any good, or any more practical. I would say that a bike that can do nothing more, because of its range, than a scooter is totally wasted having a 0 to 60 time that's comparable to Fireblade. It's just nonsense and a total waste of, (eye watering) money. I loathe these vlogs that take on the exact message a company is taking for its products and just advertises it, while pretending independence and objectivity.

Try competing with the premier electric bike manufacturer, Energica, whose bikes have good range on the road way and city. while still not up to petrol bikes they dust the offerings from Harley and Zero. So the problem again is Harley going cheap on charging options, no DC Fast Charging is listed and the L2 charging rate is slow. The original Livewire still suffers from no L2 charging but does have DC Fast Charging.

Energica's are very expensive too....and hide thier total sales numbers, instead offering "percentage" increase on sales....which is not very telling. Battery R&D starting to go through the roof. It’s a homeland security issue as china’s CATL worlds largest battery manufacturer. Ranges will continue to improve. More Level 3 DC fast chargers will appear. Oil prices will continue to increase as finite commodity. Electricity always less than gasoline. Climate change and air pollution(oil refineries 450,000 worldwide 50% air pollution) are real things with 6 million dying from air pollution. This is a beautiful bike for a city commuter.
