In December, I purchased a 2024 CX 5 S Carbon Edition. They offered $2,000 below Dealer Invoice and 0% financing. What a great deal! I love it so much! Totally agree with everything you said, Jonathan! You know my history with RAV4's. You even sold us a couple of them! We've had 3 of them now total, including a 2021 that we just traded out of to get in a 2024 CX-5. The only 2 areas where I'd give the RAV a *slight* advantage are gas mileage and cargo space. But that's it. In every other way, the CX-5 is so much better! Driving dynamics, interior luxury, you name it - the Mazda is a step ahead. And with the financing offers that Mazda is currently offering, I'd strongly encourage anybody looking at a RAV4 to take a few minutes to check out a CX-5. I promise, you won't be sorry!

I find selecting a CX-5 much like buying shoes. The CX-3, 5, 7, and 9 are all essentially the same cars, except different sizes. I chose the CX-5 because the 3 was a bit too cramped for me (6'3" and 230lbs), while the 9 was too big for my needs(No need for 3 row seating). I also selected the GT version as well , not because I'm a crazy driver, but because it can easily avoid an accident on the highway without putting my life in danger. I've seen too many videos of cars steering hard to avoid a sudden accident, only to roll over themselves because the car couldn't handle the sudden maneuver to avoid collision.

I agree and liked the CX-5 but than I tested the BMW X3! Wow! The X3 was beautiful inside and the exterior looked great. Plus it drove better too. Overall it was so much better. So yes it’s much more expensive if you consider it to a base CX-5 for about $35k but a signature model is in the $40’s and that makes it more competitive price wise. To me a $10k spread makes the BMW an easy pick. Test drive and compare a loaded CX-5 to a comparative BMW X3 and see. Also the warranty is 4 yrs with free maintenance for 3 years. Again if you’re on a tight budget than I agree that the CX-5 is smarter, but if you can afford the extra money the BMW is a wonderful driving experience. It’s my first SUV!

Thanks, for the podcast John. I agree the CX-5 is also still my favorite of all the great SUV/CUV's Mazda makes. I only wish they had a great bright blue color to match the beautiful Soul Red, like the Bright Bahama Blue of my 2007 6i 5-door, plus that they offered a lighter brown or saddle color leather in the Signature model. The current brown is to dark and is almost black. The CX-5 has several features that make it preferable over the CX-50, such as the 40/20/40 rear seats and cargo cover design, it has fully independent rear suspension. Just needs a hybrid version to be almost perfect for me.

2014 CX-5 Carbon S (non-turbo), owned now for 2 months. Every day I so look forward to driving this. On work days, I skip the main roads (Long Island Expressway, e.g., which we here call "The World's Largest Parking Lot" for the amount of traffic on a normal commute.). Instead, I take the local roads for the commute, from south shore Long Island, which is completely flat -- not even a 2-foot hill to be found -- to north shore, where the roads are exceptionally hilly and twisty [ thank you glaciers of yore for the difference in geography]. I am someone who can't bear to listen to the radio in the morning -- I want total calm before I get my coffee at the office. Yet, I love to "eat for breakfast" the twists and turns of the back roads (well, 40mph roads -- uhm, don't radar watch me, please!, else I'm in trouble.) in my CX-5. We, my car and I, seem to wake each other up! We become in tune with all around. That includes together watching for others on the road who might be less awake -- at any hour -- and knowing what potential hazards might lie just ahead. [One big one here on LI is those who can't understand why you're only going 20-25 mph sometimes, then passing on the wrong side of the road --IN A SCHOOL ZONE. Oh well.] In sum, this Mazda unique concept of the car and driver functioning as one is something that I certainly would have considered a pure marketing ploy -- until I drove the CX-5 enough to become familiar with its personality [and, I really have come to believe, it with mine]. This is not just a vehichle to get you from here to there, but rather one that may often make the ride the best part of the adventure.
@timingenkamp397311 ай бұрын
You're not wrong about the CX-5. A 2013 first year, first generation CX-5 went around the Nurburgring in 9:22, which is only 8 seconds slower than a Ferrari Testarossa. In 2022 IIHSA increased the force in their crash tests by 80% to accommodate the added weight of electric cars. Mazda ranked highest marks in a field of 19 entries. The moose test measures a car's ability to avoid a moose which stepped onto a road in front of you. The car must perform the test at a min speed of 40mph, cut a hard left into the left lane, followed by a hard right, essentially passing around the moose. The CX-5 performed it perfectly up to 49mph. For comparison, a Toyota RAV4 didn't even do it at 40mph. It made the hard left, but then the front driver side tire buckled and the car nearly rolled. I have a 2018 CX-5 GT, and I won't get rid of it. That car has performed perfectly over the nearly 3 years I've owned it. In 2017, Mazda added 150lbs of sound deadening material to the car to make it whisper quiet on the highway. My 97 year old father is very hard of hearing, and yet we can converse easily without having to raise my voice while doing 70mph on the highway. Any of our older cars had so much wind and road noise that we couldn't talk at all. Mazda has upped their game immensely since the bad rap they had while associated with Ford. Those ties were severed in 2012, and Mazda has never looked back.

Nope. As a licensed Mazda master tech, the 2017 CX-5 will be the last year I'll recommend for reliability. No cylinder deactivation, and no turbo. You can't get a CX-5 without either of these after 2017. I've seen 2017 and older going more that 200K miles with 0 issues, but on the newer ones, I'm already seeing cracked heads at 30K miles. Rare, but I've seen it 4-5 times now, where I saw it 0 times beforehand. It's still more reliable than domestics and Europeans... But it used to be as reliable as a Toyota\Honda. The only issues the older ones had are infotainment gremlins. Don't get me wrong, most of the new ones will probably go 150K miles trouble free, but for those of you who expect the 300K reliability... These days are over. I know that because we have lots of Uber drivers with over 100K coming to our dealership (as Mazda offers 5 years unlimited mileage warranty). They used to need nothing more than general maintenance, and now they need more and more parts.

I drive a Rav4 (Company Car), it’s OK but I feel they are over rated in general. Interior is cheap, motor is noisy, handling is so so. All it took was one spirited 2024 CX-5 test drive and I was sold on one for my personal vehicle. In my opinion the looks of the CX-5 are more appealing. Front and back ends of Rav4 & HRV’s are way to busy looking. Sometimes less is more. LOL 😀

The RAV 4 is one of the ugliest suv's on the road. They look so cheap. The Mazda CX-5 is much nicer, both on interior and exterior by far. I bought a new 2023 CX-5 for my wife and love it so much I am buying a 2025 for me! I have never driven a RAV 4, but I will bet the Mazda drives a lot better!

I don't like CX5 because of its trunk space WHICH IS TINY!!!! My Mazda 6 has a MUCH BIGGER TRUNK SPACE than CX5's which is an SUV and supposed to have a big cargo space. Mazda dropped the ball on this one.

The cx5 seats seem to be not that comfortable maybe a little small for a beefy bloke

I have noticed it's a little annoying in the hamstring department. The side stuffing in the seat is a little stiff

I thought would talk more about the technical side of the cx5, been it, that u dress like ur a mechanic, but all the talk here was about non essential concerns. What a waste a time this was. Nothing about engine, and tranny. What a waste of time.

Being a Mazda owner since 1981, I’ve had several modes within the Mazda range over the years. I agree that Mazdas are a great drivers vehicle from their small cars to even their Utes. 🇦🇺🦘
