Why the 'NJWeedMan' Voted Against Legal Marijuana

Ed “NJWeedMan” Forchion is a local New Jersey cannabis legend. His shop, NJWeedMan’s Joint, located directly across the street from City Hall, has been operating as a cannabis marketplace since 2015 - before legalization. NJ has been clear about the distinction between marijuana and cannabis; marijuana, street-cannabis, will still be illegal, but cannabis, corporate regulation, won’t be. NJ’s anti-corporatization beliefs were rooted in his on-and-off relationship with the New Jersey legal system. In 2016, months after its establishment, NJWeedMan’s Joint was raided by police. He served more than 400 days in prison. Now, since recreational legalization, he's making sure the Black Market is included in the state's equity efforts.

My point is that the government shouldn't refuse to issue licenses to former weed dealers. If anything, a marijuana trafficking conviction indicates that you are more knowledgeable about the product than the average joe.

@@cmend Maybe they can grow their own, but selling that stuff should be as strict as selling homemade alcohol and tobacco. He makes a damn good point. The fact that past convictions for selling cannabis somehow make you ineligible to legally sell cannabis is insanity. Makes no sense at all. To pass cannabis legalization laws, which implies "hey, we never should've arrested you guys in the first place" and then turn around and tell people with past cannabis convictions that they can't be included in the legal market is absolutely ridiculous. If anything, it should make them MORE qualified considering they have a hell of a lot more experience with the plant than massive tobacco or alcohol corporations.

i like the insight that your comment raises. i would be grateful if you could give your insight on something i've read about this same topic: before legalization, the fact some went to prison is the very reason why some made millions if some people didn't go to prison - then everyone would be growing / selling, supply wouldn't be artificially scarce so prices wouldn't be artificially inflated and ergo profit margins wouldn't be artificially inflated and people wouldn't have made millions. so justice would be those who went to prison collecting from those who profited from them going to prison ...justice wouldn't be exploiting cannabis consumers under legislation ...but as long as people can grow their own, they won't have to buy from legal exploitative schemes. the long and continuing history of systemic oppression against people of color needs reparations that are truly just if that oppression is to finally end. ...otherwise people will perceive to have concrete reasons to continue hostilities.

Where is the original cannabis legalization write up that governor Murphy was running with that was the perfect solution to all of the issues! Especially the phone app implementation where people could use the same providers of cannabis? Which was going to work through a phone app like a cash app that was also going to be taxed through the cash app what happened to that? Why is New Jersey moving so slow? This is absurd in many ways in addition to that it’s the summer we can even enjoy the new law during our summer vacation due to the government of New Jersey is dragging this charade only so they capitalize and maximize their profits off the taxpayer that’s the only reason THE REAL REASON FOR THE HOLD UP! They say there’s a shortage of supply when there’s like 4 large warehouse building like grow quarters in New Jersey it really has nothing to do with our safety nor the provisions for those under 21 it’s solely to make sure they maximize their end the government’s profit by the time New Jersey rolls it out it’ll be Federally legal!! Wtf New Jersey ?

Miss you guys. Mike the whole team. Crazy . I miss those days. I’m glad you doing good my guy. I was actually there when he got raided. Swat or highly armed police held us at gun point while they cleared out everything, they let me go later that day. This guy has been on the cannabis frontline since day one. They gave me discounts andsometimes free because I was a real patient using it to treat seizures. Real people that really cared . Same deal in Maryland. All the grower licenses were given to political buddies who paid 20 grand non-refundable "application fees" and 100 grand for the license. One of the biggest growers is a group of retired judges and cops who all kicked in together. These guys arrested for weed and sent people to jail for weed and now they're getting rich from weed.

This situation is just like prohibition in America. The time before, people were drinking so much, but the the government made it illegal. Then came in the sneaky production and marketing of it, and drinking in secret. And not forgetting to the fight for profits and violence and the mass arrests from secret sales. Then, as soon as it was finally legal again in bars and stores, people and gangs selling it on the black market couldn't compete anymore because people could just go to a bar to drink or buy them from the stores and then drinking in America just declined all together at that point. This is pretty much the same reason why many sellers like NJWeedman aren't all for legalization. Because then facilities and stores could just start up, and people would just flock to them instead of the average street vendor. This is why so many people in my area of Chicago were a bit upset with the state's decision to legalize it and even start a facility. Now the competition is losing its grip to corporate America, like usual.

Could be worse, illinois has a progressive THC tax 😆 3.5 grams of flower on sale runs ya $70. There’s a reason there’s never any lines to the shops here like in CO.

I’m a medical patient and get pampered when I go to the dispensary’s where I’m from we get to cut the entire line of recreational customers also can buy way more and transport more. We also pay way less even though the dispensary’s are changing top dollar. Recreational is selling 60$ an eighth in my area how crazy but I pay between 30$-40$ for the same product and get discounts and points program that you get 1 point for every 1$ and when you get 100 points you get 20% of your entire purchase but they offer nothing for recreational. I would still buy off the street if I wasn’t medical it makes no sense in some states to buy recreational.

No thats not the sentiment lmao, where do you gather that from?! Let me ask you this...would you rather have this guy grow and sell you your weed, who clearly cares about what he's selling and the people he's selling too! Or some real estate tycoon turned "cannabis entrepreneur" who doesn't care about marijuana or the people he's selling too who's only goal and passion is making money?

I know an old guy in Jersey, who has been selling weed since 72. Never been busted for weed. Said he got caught selling cocaine in 80s. He said the detectives on his case, told him if had of stuck to only selling weed, we would not have bothered arresting you. But he was selling coke in someone's territory. They dimed him out to get him out of the way.
