I counted days in the beginning of my nofap journey and would only focus on getting to a high streak in hopes of „unlocking“ new benefits at whatever day count. Until I realized that its about changing your lifestyle. The perceived „superpowers“ that many speak of come from taking responsibility for other things that you were before too undisciplined to pursue before due to fapping daily
@bigbuck919
@bigbuck919 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think I could have phrased it any better myself to be honest with you. Your absolutely right on how its more about lifestyle changes than simply not doing it. I guess it comes down to having discipline at first and eventually focusing on bigger things especially if your serious about self improvement

For real. In my case it was with training, I don’t particularly have any issue with porn use or fapping. But one analogy I like a lot is how in martial arts as the new guy you ask so much questions or admit you’re confused and humbled once you train a couple times, and many peoples advice is “just keep showing up”. It sounds like a horrible advice and unhelpful but it’s because when you keep trying to get some ability or concept (like winning against someone etc) the only way to actually do it is if you end up becoming the type of person who always shows up, because that’s the only person that will follow through and acheive the goal. And that is the actual superpower ability, not the goal you thought you wanted, because then you can use that discipline you learned, that focus that Carries on along your life and apply it to whatever you decide to do. I am not convinced that nofap has any benefits for me more than maybe testing my attachment to pleasure and building character and discipline, so I have not tried because I would be lying to myself if I do it and not take it seriously and therefore wouldn’t follow through. But maybe one day when I’m open to dating again and feel stable in life I will try to do it for spiritual and mental growth. I probably would at least learn something from the experience

I think some people missed the point. Nofap itself is not bad, but it’s some people’s behavior about it that is the problem. And as someone who has followed r/Nofap for some time, I agree. People will relapse after a 200+ streak and they’ll have a conniption about it, like that 200+ streak meant nothing and they are just as big as losers as they were on day 1. People will freak out and ask if ‘blank’ is a relapse over the littlest things. Like if you go to the gym for 100 days, and you miss 1 day, you’re not gonna lose all of your strengths and muscles. But that’s how some people view nofap. Nofap is very beneficial but you have to be casual about and you shouldn’t view every good thing that happens to you as a result of your nofap journey.

‘Relapse’ is the most toxic word for doing something natural. Out of PMO, that first letter is the only one you should be cutting off permanently. Losing all interest won’t do you good when it comes time you’re with a real woman. Releasing every 10-14 days is the sweet spot. Is dependent on age, lifestyle etc.

Because they obsess about the days. And they mistakenly believe that it is the nofap that is the sole source of their 'superpowers' and that the more days you do the more superpowers you will get. So when they 'relapse' at 300 days, they now have to wait 300 days to get back to where they were. Plus, a lot of these nofap guys don't have much else going on in their life. That is their primary source of achievement.

It took freaking TWO YEARS to get out of porn for me. Sometimes I would do it every day, other times I would do once a week, and sometimes I would even watch several times a day. Although the addiction led me to watch it, I never let myself accept this terrible habit. I would fall again and again. But if it was needed, I would try it for my whole life, I wouldn't accept it. Finally, after those 2 years, now I can enjoy the pleasure of not watching it, having a peaceful mind and I can persue any other goal that I want!

I don't really masturbate or watch porn at all anymore. I don't make a big deal out of it. I don't count the days. I've just come to a logical decision that it's just not worth doing. So many of these nofap guys make it into this huge ordeal, and they obsess about how many days they've been on it (some guys even continue counting years later). No wonder that if and when they 'relapse' they feel absolutely devastated because they've failed their most important goal in life (that's certainly how they treat it), and now it's going to take another 256 days to get back to where they were (which is extremely discouraging). Besides, I've noticed from my many 'relapses', that while I might feel shit for a few days, I'm back to 100% after about 7 days, if not earlier. And yet guys think they need to get back to day 257 to get their 'superpowers' back.

If you can't get through the day w/o masturbating, you have a problem. And it WILL lead to character issues if it hasn't already. Having said this, self-acceptance and the ability to cut yourself some slack are key, no doubt. A big part of the pain is knowing it's wrong. The moment you realise you can't stop and that's a real problem, it gets tough. But, knowing and trying to change is the way to heal and get better, if you stay ignorant about this, you may not feel all the guilty, but the consequences across time are far way worse.

@@TheDionysianFields I mean I agree that sexual release isn't a need like many people think. I've gone on super long streaks without sex and masturbation many times, and it's not even that hard once you get used to it, and life you can still be beautiful, and you can still be very happy. Having said that, I don't think that having sex is neccesarily a coping mechanism. Sex can be one of those beautiful and fulfilling experiences in life. No fap is just a stupid internet dilemma. I think addiction is bad but no fap is equally bad. You become over confident, ignorant and frustrated than ever before. Men since ages masturbate. And most influencers support it to gain audience's support

Like all matters of personal development, the only thing you should be comparing yourself to is who you were yesterday. Nofap has many benefits and it's great to get some support from others on the path, but don't buy into boasting about streak length, gains, success with girls etc. etc. Just focus on how much better things are for you when you make a choice to do better for yourself out of self-love, rather than giving up your personal agency for short term pleasure.

What they are trying to say is that, people who do nofap usually would get mad at themselves if they relapse. This is not a good thing to do because you keep getting more and more mad. The key is to not get angry at yourself when you relapse. Tell yourself that it is ok and it happens to everyone. Yes, once you relapse you feel very empty inside. STOP BLAMING YOURSELF. Even if you fap every day they effort is all that matters. Don't make such a big deal after one relapse or 10000. You don't lose all benefits after one.

I strongly disagree. Porn addiction destroyed me. I'm very visual so I can't really satisfy myself without an object/subject. It led to porn induced ED which greatly diminished when I started abstaining. The reason I abstained was because I am already being satisfied with another woman. Porn easily makes men passive. Fapping is worse than porn, but porn is still very bad as it will basically fry out your dopamine receptors. Fapping causes a very significant spike in prolactin levels for days (takes roughly three weeks to recover back to optimal levels based on numerous human studies using blood tests performed both before and after ejaculation, then during the abstinence period). Fapping also causes a deregulation of other hormones such as dheas, SHGB, DHT, FSH, LH, cortisol, estradiol, and free testosterone (as these hormones play a role in regulation to testosterone), etc. Dopamine receptor signaling is also affected from fapping, including growth hormone, as well as IGF levels, etc. Also, sexual fantasy in the mind (daydreaming) and porn are both lustful habits that negativity affects the brain. One may be worse than the other, but both have the same negative effects on dopamine responses, just at different elevations. God created anatomy, science, etc.

I can see that. In a way, young men would most likely feel pressure to do it otherwise what would be the point of doing it if keep failing again and again and again. At that point you might as well do 10 days instead of 30 just to start. I gave the 30 day a good old college tryout and well,it was rough. And what if you flop before you pass the finish line.
