A lot of potential. There are also other industries that are outsourcing to the Philippines now like accounting and engineering. Nurses are also being outsourced now. I would suggest to make a video on the economy of the smaller ASEAN countries like Laos, Cambodia and maybe even East Timor.

Well, the outsourcing industry plays a very crucial role in the services sector of the Philippines. 60% of the Philippines' GDP come from the services sector; 30% from the manufacturing/industrial sector; and 10% from agriculture.

I see that outsourcing industry(BPO)is the greatest and biggest provider of the Philippines economy. Outsourcing investment in the Philippines is among the cheapest and competitive industry to entrust internationally. Outsourcing industry sustains the economic and social living in the Philippines(next to the overseas remittance industry).

If you apply for a job in IT/Tech i.e. as a Software Engineer here in the Philippines, there's a high chance that the employer is an outsourcing company. I experienced this on my last job hunting, where every company that interviewed me is an outsourcing company with clients from Australia, Canada, the US, Japan, Singapore, etc. Though if you compare our salary to other software engineers from those countries, we're way underpaid, but in this country, even though that overly underpaid salary can support a middle class lifestyle. I remember my entry level job as a developer is around 30k pesos, and again, I'm underpaid compared to devs outside the Philippines, which if you think is crazy, no wonder businesses outside the country and Filipino workers think this is a win-win.

Then small business owners started to build their sari sari stores, apartments, laundry shop etc. Today we now have a jollibee and McDonald's nearby and other restaurants open 24 hrs with more customers at night because of our BPO. BPO might give leverage for the current Philippines. But it's also the greatest weakness for the future economy of the Philippines. BPO is a fragile industry that it could tip over with just a simple problem whether internal or external. I wish we could truly be a competitive tech giant in the global tech and service industry and not just for outsourcing which robs most workers of enough sustainable income.

Yes, I don't know if I'm being paranoid or what. But there's no security in a lot of BPO companies. I have seen and experienced accounts pulling out and transferring to cheaper countries. It's more devastating if the company was small cause the transfer of employee will be longer.

Before, only the Engineers were working on the IT , but later, this was encouraged in Schools. The COVID 19 Pandemic gave also chances for the Schoolchildren learn IT due to distant learning usage in the countryside , enabling them to get famlliar with Internet. There`s really good future in the Philippines and for the young Filipinos who wish to work Overseas. AURAPHIL thanks for sharing. GOD bless!

My basic salary was 27k pesos and the package was roughly 30k for the past 3 years and I just signed in a contract that offered me 40k salary package with best working environment according to the folks I've known who are working there. Can't wait to start this coming March 😁. Oh I forgot to mention that I was in supervisory position from my previous work 😂. I hope the party list representative for BPO industry advocates passionately a competitive salary packages and HMO pertinent to country's GDP coming from BPO sector.

On the english literacy part, the current workers grew up on mostly english dominated education. Even foreign non english shows several decades ago were dub in English. With that, the previous generation were forced to learn the language not just in school so that they can enjoy their entertainment. Now mostly everything is dub in Filipino even american movies and series. Also Currently education in the Philippines is trying to incorporate more of the Filipino language. I have seen today math, science and physical education curriculum which are translated to Filipino and teaching my grade 1 niece filipino version of math always gave me a headache even though I love the subject. I know we Filipinos need to be patriotic but I always think that learning a subject in a language not usually being use when we start working is a bad idea. I hope the next generation will not suffer with unemployment as there is a possiblity English literacy in the Philippines will start to decline.
@maalat

Math is another kind of language. Better use the primary language, Filipino, to at least tease the concepts and use English words and concepts that can be very difficult to translate. Besides numbers and math symbols are universal, no need for translation. Many math lessons in English are convoluted and can be explained in more understandable English.

The Philippines have a system of exploitation in placed, bright, eager and a young population are needed for industries abroad without these young people actually going abroad to compete for jobs. Tech companies in the Philippines aren't known, most are disguised as tech companies but are in fact manpower companies providing cheap services, the result is that the top get to skim off the dollar while the bottom gets the leftovers. Tech isn't popular in the Philippines, the Philippine economy is built around the mobility of people. Tourism, services, and remittance sectors are always the key to financial success for many business owners. The Philippines is a consumerist state with a junk food economy, not an innovative state.
