Why the Porsche 959 is Better Than the Ferrari F40

As far as Group B is concerned, the real Ferrari counterpart of the 959 is the 288GTO. Both of these cars were intended to compete in the B category of the WEC. That class of racing never happened because of the cancelation of Grp B for racing or rallying. If GrpB rallying had continued neither Porsche or Ferrari would have been competitive. The Peugeot 205T16 had already shown that the to win at the World level the car needed to be mid-engined, 4wheel drive, have a turbocharged engine of less than 2 liters and light weight. There was a requisite displacement-to-weight ratio that would have made the 959 and 288 too ponderous to win versus the GrpB Peugeots, Lancias or Fords. The Ferrari may have had a chance in tarmac rallies, if they could find crews brave and skillful enough to exploit its power and handling. Porsche had the GrpB 911SC RS, but by 1986 it was completely outclassed on loose or hard roads and was frequently beaten by Group A - modified production "sedan" cars.

I knew the F40 wasn't exactly a direct competitor to the 959 but it is fun to compare the two. I did not really cover or research the idea of the 959 actually competing in group B but I think your right in saying it would not have stood a chance against the mid engined smaller displacement cars. It would still be very interesting to watch a machine like the 959 compete against less advanced but more nimble cars like the Peugeot.

One thing wrong was it did not have a adjustable spoiler but the rest was perfect

Porsche was advanced to the point of fear of technology and was faster than f40

looks: F40 by far. Performance: similar. Driving experience: F40 by far. Unicorn status: F40 (although not as rare, it's still the better poster car) I think that's enough to call the better car here. You see, every great car out there in the history books is not the one more sophisticated or even faster

The F40 is more wow, but the 959 is a much better machine. Porsche has alway been the best high end cars. If i could afford the high end cars i would buy a Porsche, untill then ill stay with my corolla daily driver and 1990 300zx weekend car.

The Ferrari f40 was faster while the Porsche was quicker. The Porsche was over half a second faster to 100kph.

The F40 is arguably better looking, but it lacks a lot of the comforts the 959 has to offer. Not to mention all of the impressive tech they crammed into the car.

Haha. Compared to most super cars it is pretty tame, was the point I was trying to make. But I know where your coming from.
