That does put a strain on relationships, when your income outclasses and intimidates men. Let’s also add the bonus of constant social scrutiny and the invasive behavior of fan culture. It’s not about whether she has access, it’s about whether what she has access to is actually of quality and has the ability to stick to her unconventional schedule, and or handle her massive amount of fame. And If both parties are equally famous then there is usually a power struggle there. I think it’s more complex than her just being rich.

Now this is a good point. So much talk about 'childless' and 'unmarried' women, as if all men are desperate to get married and have kids but evil women are refusing. Seems to me like an overall generational shift across gender lines, partly because people feel less pressure to conform to a specific lifestyle (don't have kids because you're 'supposed to', have kids if it's something you actually want), partly because people have less money/resources even if they do want kids, and partly because the future of the world is looking very uncertain right now. Anyway there are plenty of childless cat man out there living their best lives, and good for them!

One of the first things I thought of when you started talking about college stats and income stats of men and women is "Oh, another reason why they don't want to do away with or forgive student loans." If it's the maority of young women who have these degrees, then it's also women with the debt and if we forgive those loans, those women would be even MORE free and reluctant to be tied down to a BS man. Unfortunately I agree. I mean, don't get me wrong. Wanting a man, if you're wired to want one, is completely valid. But from a social standpoint? They are continually showing themselves to be not worth the trouble...and with the proposal of Project 2025, it only seems to be getting worse. I am speaking _demonstrably._ These are not things I would ever _want_ to believe; they are what I am _forced_ to believe, given the evidence and the statistics at hand. The statistics show that single women live longer, happier, freer, more prosperous, more fulfilling lives. Hell, the data is showing that even SINGLE MOTHERS do less housework and deal with less worry than married mothers. And as for my own case, well. I knew I NEVER wanted to be with a conservative man, having grown up with an ultra-conservative father. I thought, 'As long as I find a man who shares my values and wants the same things out of life as I do, then the marriage should be harmonious.'... Only to realize that he _lied_ through _seven years_ of courtship, in order to lock me down; and then spent the next ten years sabotaging and gaslighting me and medically neglecting me practically into the ground, all with the help of his conservative parents. Because too many of these men are looking for the VALIDATION that a "marriage" to a "woman™️" brings to them in the eyes of their families, friends, and coworkers... these men are NOT at all invested in building a healthy relationship, an enjoyable life, and a healthy living space with a woman who they value as a real, actual person, and as their _partner._ So, when these men will pretend at _anything,_ and will play at 'being a liberal' in order to maneuver a woman into a health-ruining and life-ruining situation? I'd say, I could only _DREAM_ of crying in my own, well-maintained car outside of my own, pleasantly-kept house, run by my own money right now. Because then I'd go inside, make a cup of tea, snuggle my cats, call my friends, and enjoy the life I'd built for myself. As long as these men continue to see preventing others from living as their life and gender purpose -- controlling and dismantling others as a way to "prove that they are men" -- I don't see a lot of hope for heterosexual relationships anywhere.

They could walk out any time they feel it (Taylor generally does) and choose intellectual and romantic connection, not traditional dependentcy that comes with traditional relationships. If I look at things objectively, men never really ADDED anything of value to my life. At worst they were toxic and dragged me down, but at best? At best, they still were lacking in emotional intelligence. They still did not realize how much emotional labor they dumped onto me while they expected to be treated like kings for less than the bare minimum. When I think of what I really want and need in a relationship, men do not actually measure up. My life is fuller and more joyful when I stop hoping that men will be better than they are. I grew up with magazines and articles and videos telling me how to make guys like me, so I think guys can stand to hear a little "maybe go to therapy and actually treat her like a human being" now and then. Until then, I really don't need to make my lfie worse by bringing in a man who's not going to meet my needs.

Slight tangent, but the way I see so many conservative men get so pressed because Taylor Swift is a 35-year-old career woman who doesn't have kids baffles me. Especially because, Taylor herself has never outright said whether she wants kids or not. She just... exists as a super successful woman in music who is thriving in her mid-30s (rare nowadays in pop music, which likes to discard women as soon as they turn 30), and just happens to not have kids. Though, I can speculate that I'm pretty sure Taylor doesn't want kids. She's very career-driven and surely knows what she would have to give up to start a family. Funny thing: In her 2019 documentary, there's a scene where she visits her childhood best friend Abigail, and they talk about some of their old classmates who had recently had babies, and you can just tell that Taylor is not overjoyed at what parenthood looks like in the slightest. She even compares a baby to a Tamagotchi, like the millennial she is. Abigail then goes on to say that she thinks Taylor would be a great mother, and Taylor just sort of awkwardly chuckles at this. I think this says it all. Any child-free woman who has had these conversations with old friends can probably see herself in Taylor right there. There's also the Anti-Hero music video which depicts her future children and future daughter-in-law as selfish chasers who do nothing with their lives except coast off their famous mom's name. It's comedic, sure, but I think that song and music video are a rare and downright cynical look into Taylor's psyche in regards to her legacy and her feelings on potentially starting a family.

And here's the other part of the discussion that needs more attention, women are allowed to make decisions and also change their minds, which is why I think it's a good thing Taylor doesn't publicly make a stand on having children or not. She may decide to have them in the future, or not have them at all. That is the beauty of choice. Kind of like Rihanna, she's a successful career billionaire that also decided to have children in her mid-30s. She'd be well within her right if she didn't want them at all, and well within her right if she made that decision in her 40s. The beauty of choice ❤️

Well said, ghstbird! I'm a childfree catless man. My last cat (Happy) died on 2004 March 13 at the age of 20. My penultimate cat (Missy) died on 2002 January 28 at the age of 18. I cried so much over Missy dying that by the time Happy died, I had mentally prepared for it and it didn't hit me as hard, even though, ironically Happy was the sweetest most loveable- pettable tortoise-shell calico cat in the universe, and Missy was a silver tabby who would whack anything (like your hand) placed in front of her face. I am deliberately and proudly Antinatalist which makes me childfree, not childless. I have never been a dog-person. Nevertheless, I can walk outside my house any time in our (very weakly) gated adult community and within minutes a resident will walk by walking a dog, and they'll let me pet their dog.

I think that definition of selfish is too narrow. Have you realized the role of shockingly selfish parents as roadblocks to positive change in some communities? The number of suburban parents I have seen vehemently fight against increasing the housing stock through smaller/more affordable options than single family house zoning is depressing, and the “reason” they give is there will be more demand on the resources of the schools their children attend. There are parents who are willing to see other people priced out of having any roof over their head if it means their child’s school will need to add portable classrooms.
