The lesson here is: All fitness centers should hook their treadmills up to generators. Thanks for watching!
@An.Unsought.Thought
@An.Unsought.Thought 2 жыл бұрын
Actually I don't think that would work. Modern treadmills are meant to be powered so that it acts almost like a road moving underneath a person so they lift their legs and walk/run on the spot easier. A power generator or battery probably would barely save enough energy for even the treadmill itself. So I doubt much would even be generated.

I'm going to be one of those guys. The idea your going with here actually predated the Victorians by centuries. The Romans used a similar device as well in the first century.

yup, they used animals, like goats or oxen to power big ones, and slaves or low ranking footsoldiers to power the smaller ones.they have had "man-wheels" to power things as long as they have had "water-wheels" and "pulleys", "block and tackle" and other crap like that to make the work more efficient.

I always thought when walking through the gym that all those exercise machines should be connected to some kind of a generator to produce electricity. Your pace is yours and yours alone. You don't have to fit into other people's programs if you don't feel like it. Exercice isn't meant to be a torture. If you feel like it is, please seek help. Treadmills are incredibly old in origin. There is evidence of their use 4000 years ago! These early versions were often more like giant hamster wheels with a person/animal inside the wheel. They were mainly used to grind corn, etc. They were also used in medieval times in some large trebuchets (big catapults) to haul the counterweight back up when reloading or as use in cranes for lifting loads especially when building large structures like cathedrals.

This sort of reminds me how the chemical used for a certain brand of weed killer had its origins in Nazi death camps, guess you gotta adapt to the market, being evil doesn’t bring the money in all the time 🤷‍♀️ tho considering the weed killer I’m referring to caused cancer perhaps they didn’t quite escape their evil origins. You’d think with the treadmill they’d have at least TRIED naming it something else, but I guess it’s not a big deal when so many people (myself included until this video) are totally unaware of its origin.

I didn't know the origin of it though and never really gave the name of it any thought but it's very interesting to learn how it came about. Luckily, it's not meant for torture these days and like you said, you can push the stop button whenever you want so it's totally up to oneself how long one should run on the treadmill. I spend an hour with five minutes run, five minutes slow/mid-slow walk and I always love getting that "runner's high" feeling from it.

I totally get your point, and mostly agree, but here are the reasons I drive to the gym. It's 45 minutes from home, and about 15 minutes from work. It's too far from both locations to walk to. Why not find a closer gym, you might ask, if you've never been to actual rural America. There aren't any. My nearest grocery store is only about ten minutes closer than the gym. That's also where my nearest post office and gas station are. The nearest hospital is about as far as the gym. If you have been to rural America, then you know that things like sidewalks, traffic lights, and other safety measures are largely a city/town luxury. It is absolutely not safe to walk on the gravel shoulder of a rural highway (don't confuse highway with freeway), especially if walking with canes or a walker. As a disabled person, yes, I drive to the gym to use a treadmill because it has handrails. So there are many legitimate reasons people choose to drive somewhere you think of as "close" or "in the neighborhood" (what's that?). We're not just lazy slobs. If I were, I'd keep my crippled ass at home and not provide for my family or look after my health. I'm sorry if that's offensive to anyone's sensibilities. (LOL, no I'm not.)

The industrial age created a lot more disturbing things than the treadmill. The 16 hour day, child and animal labor in dangerous conditions, pollution and a huge financial inequality between the classes, the few getting everything out of the poor and weak...

I refuse to use a treadmill.. if I'm gonna run, I'm gonna go outside and do it like a human being, not inside staring straight ahead like a mouse on a wheel.
@morrigankasa570

A treadmill is better then outside exercise; no bugs, no rough gravel/uneven terrain, no brutal sun heat, and can watch TV or listen to music while being on a treadmill compared to outside.

It seems ironic explaining this to someone that goes by the name Frosty the Snowman, but... I live in North Dakota where it's way too cold to be running outside half of the year. Of course when I lived in a rather ghetto town in the south, I felt like I was risking my life any time I went for a run because every other house had some crazed pit but freaking out and trying to bust through its fence to go after any passerby. But when the weather's decent and there's not homicidal dogs everywhere, sure, I much prefer running outside.
@Frosty_tha_Snowman
@Frosty_tha_Snowman 2 жыл бұрын
@@ressljs well that's why I said *I* refuse to use one.. me, myself. I *don't* live near neighbors that might shoot me or dogs that might eat me. Don't act like I'm unaware that lightning storms exist - I have an entire home gym of my own. It just doesn't include a treadmill. If you ever run on a beach, you'll never want to run on anything else again - especially not a machine that creates unnatural impacts and wears out your knees twice as fast as if you ran on normal ground. But that's just the words of a certified personal trainer and nutritional therapist going to college to become a chiropractor, who graduated 2nd from the very top of his highschool class.. so you don't need to listen to me.
