Why The True Geordie Is Wrong About Newcastle's Takeover

In a recent video entitled The Newcastle Takeover Debate on his football channel The Kick Off, KZbin personality The True Geordie, Laurence McKenna and the rest of the panel discussed the potential takeover at Newcastle United.
I felt a few of the things that The True Geordie, AKA Brian Davis, said needed addressing, so in this video, HITC Sevens rights the wrongs of that debate and points out where The True Geordie has got it wrong with regards to Newcastle's new owners.

I remember a couple of years ago, when City were running away with the league(100pts season). Geordie stated that the title would mean nothing, as it was bought with oil money, that it was ruining football etc. Somewhere down the line Newcastle were potentially going to be taken over by some billionaire and he changed his tune real fucking quickly. "I take it all back, City. I take it all back." When that eventually fell through, and City were pipping Liverpool to the title the following season, he reverted straight back to his old belief, City were ruining football etc. He's a funny guy but whenever he's passionate about something related to football, you can't take him seriously.

The Kick Off lads were essentially talking, with pub style banter, about football. They admitted that their knowledge of the leader of Saudi Arabia wasn't their specialist subject. Good on you for making this video alfie. I’m a big fan of true geordie and have got alot of time and respect for him, however you echoed alot of things I thought when I watched that video too here, that I’m glad have been highlighted. Takes alot of guts to make a video like this on someone with such clout online. Brian has always said he’s happy to hear opposing points to his own, and that if he is ever wrong about something he’d want to be called out. Lets hope thats kept in mind by his fanbase (and him) if any of them stumble across this video.

NUFC fan here - thanks for bringing up the UK involvement with these regimes and the history of the UK gov. A lot of our fans haven't studied this, or seen UK foreign policy in action. I always urge people to try and be informed as much as possible. I think you may have missed some of the points of our protests of Ashley. It wasn't to say other clubs haven't got it worse. We were more high profile and because of that were sneered at for challenging not only a British billionaire but the ownership model of English football. Which needs to be challenged if we're going to stop not the commercialisation of our game and the incentive for these regimes to use it to sport swash.

I agree with you and I don't think you have any malice in this video. As a NUFC fan myself I honestly don't know what to do, part of me just wants to get out, where as the other doesn't want to ruin a love I've had since 1994. I can appreciate some of the points he makes but I think it's pretty easy to cherry pick certain point of a relaxed debate of which the opposing side made very questionable points too. It really annoys me that he kept going back the fact he doesn't do videos like this but then immediately proceeds to hack into him more, its obvious he doesn't like the video and its pretty weak to still make it look like he's sitting on the fence. Mike Ashley is also almost certainly a bad owner, he doesn't invest into the club and it seems that lots of the other clubs you picked out weren't nearly as big. I think the love in the comments is hilarious. To someone who is making a video on why people have been mislead or why they shouldn't trust a video his comment section seems to be pretty loving and takes it at face value.

As a Newcastle fan, I'm glad someone has finally stepped up and said this, yes Ashley has not been the majority of people's cup of tea be that because of his business ethics or his lack of clear communication with fans, but he is potentially leaving the club as one of, if not the best, financially ran clubs in the Premier League and at this moment in time considering the economic fallout of COVID-19 that's an excellent position to be in, people like the True Geordie wonder why Newcastle Fans get a bad reputation and called deluded, after watching his video I can see why, so many cringe moments which could come back to bite him in the arse and make him look very foolish. We always hear that as a fan you support the team and not the regime, again something as a Newcastle fan I've heard myself relating to Mike Ashley, but when you have more than questionable regimes such as the PIF/Saudi Royals coming into your club, as a fan you have to make it your own responsibility to do you own due diligence and make your mind up, in this instance its blatantly obvious there are ethical and moral concerns with these new owners, yes I will support my team and will welcome investment, but it will still consciously make me feel a little uncomfortable unless PIF/Saudi start making huge strides and improving human rights and ethics within their own country and end the unjustified war in Yemen. Any NUFC fan who feels that the press coverage and commentary on this subject is a personal attack upon them and their football club need to step back and take a long hard look in the mirror and question where their own moral compass points?
