Great video Nick. Love my Tube Screamer clones. I'll get a real one day. I just wanted to say I am so glad your at Sweetwater now. I'm a lefty to so I watch you like a hawk! You are one great metal player. I still listen to Reaper to this day. If you are ever down Tulsa way look me up, we can jam. I have 7 lefty's so you won't have to bring a guitar. Take it easy Nick....

I was a TS skeptic for years until I picked up the EHX East River Drive on a whim. It changed my mind over night. It's not always the sound I'm looking for. But when I want "that sound" the TS circuit is amazing.

As much as I love the creamy TS diodes,the asymmetrical configuration of the Diodes in the OD1 is hair raising for solos!! 👌👍👌👌

There's a well known influencer wannabe who made a whole screed against the TS. But as soon as I listen to him, and then listen to Nick, I know which one I'll take.

That signature midrange honk of the TS might be overwhelming in the bedroom. However, in a band scenario it’s your friend for being heard in the mix.

A humbucker equipped Les Paul(or SG for me) into a set-to-crunch Marshall JCM800 with a Tube Screamer in between, is such a cliché...for a reason; it sounds FANTASTIC!!!

Thank you NICK and Sweetwater! Have always loved and used the TS9. It sits comfortably next to my TILT, among a host of other pedals. Love to push it through my Fender Twin Reverb. Ah the Joy! Bought my son his own TS9 as a Birthday gift. I don’t think he ever plays without it engaged!👍 Always FUN, and Always Informative, NICK!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I like the "tone shaping" idea with the drive turned down. I never was too interested in these, but i sometimes use an HM-2 with the dist. turned down as a tone shaper. It adds coloration more than distortion, and i can see the value of pulling in the bottom end like that with the TS9.

I use a ts9 between my guitar and DAW with the tone turned to 0 to help smooth out the low end digital warbling you can get in amp sims. It's really helped make those sims sound more real

I love what a TS can do in other peoples' hands, but I don't particularly care for them myself. Other circuits are more dynamic/touch sensitive and just feel and sound better under my fingers. I'm a huge fan of ODR circuits.

I was never a huge tube screamer fan until...I picked up the Nu-tube screamer, now that has options on it. I run mine on the 18 volt input and the blend know is so useful. Personally I think it gets overlooked compared to the normal tube screamers, Personally think it's the better option especially if you want more headroom I your sound. I run about 6 drive pedals one my board through the Revv G8 . I like to blend and stack drives. The Nu-tube actually goes nicely with my Boss SD1 40th anniversary model. I also have an original Boss HM2 and EVH 5150 overdrive and a clean boost. I don't know why the Nu-tube doesn't get more love, I thought it was a gimmick at first until you go through the differences on the pedal. I tried it with the 9 volt, and definitely preferred the 18 volt is actually very noticeable and like I said the blend know is perfect. Very underrated pedal. I was hoping to see one on here, but maybe next time lol. Great video, loved the Pantera too lol. Cheers!

It's not the highest gain pedal, but it is one of the warmest, most tube-like overdrives with a lot of bite. I say use it with an amp with a bit of dirt and get the tubes cooking, and you'll get a rockin' tone. The Tube Screamer always worked for me.

Thank you for mentioning the blend of clean and dirty signals. There are a lot of settings where you can hear both when playing your amp clean and I think it sounds like garbage.

Awesome presentation on the tube screamer dude!!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟Just got mine in the mail today actually lol.... I watched your video to see how to mess with it for the different tones.... I got the ts9 turbo screamer with the extra 4th knob for different amps mode effects... I'm drinking my coffee right now and hitting a bowl of OGkush lol and getting ready to plug it in for the first time brutha!!!! I have several guitars and some xox amps, a marshall half stack mghdfx 100 watt... I just got a line 6 spider 30 watt and a 60 watt line 6 catalyst recently.... I just like to have different guitars and different amps to expiriment with my tone and sound just for a range of variety........ Thanks again sweetwater and of course nick lol for being a loyal metal brother🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😝😝😝😝

I love my TS9 But I have a Joyo Vintage overdrive that I love as well. It's not the same "exactly" but it's fantastic. I got the TS9 because I "had to know" but in all honesty the Joyo is not as clean but it's still the only Contender IMO. I have many guitars but only use 2 rigs. I am very focused on my signal chain so "for my use" it all comes down to the settings on the pedals, guitar, amp, and the speakers they are all coming out thru. Good video bud. You definitely make the point.

Analogman will customize your Ibanez TS-9 and Maxon OD-9 to make them sound sweet. The Mod makes a cheaper modern 9-Series Tuber Screamer into a creamier original TS-808, since the circuit board is the same.

I use a RAT2 as my main distortion. What is this tube screamer like if it is stacked with the RAT? anybody had them going together?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, hope all is well! Thanks for your question. When combining gain pedals, it depends on your goal sonically. The TS has a very pronounced midrange hump and could act as a tone shaper going into the Rat. The Rat has a distinct high end clarity that could make the TS less “nasal”. If the goal is to stack gain that’s one thing, if it’s to get a particular notched out tone setting then that’s another. Or could be a combo of both. Order in the signal chain and settings offer a multitude of options. Experiment and see what you like best. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! I don't have the TS9, but a copy of it, the Digitech Bad Monkey. Also, isn't the TS a copy of the Boss OD-1? Great pedal, you can get some awesome sounds. I personally like Fuzz, but the TS style pedal is great for stacking pedals or for a more clean but still filthy sound

I wonder how many guitarist fall considerably short of their potential because they start on these silly tone quests instead of continuing to try to get better. It's insane to me how obsessed the guitar community is about minor differences in tone.
@kylebichler2258
@kylebichler2258 2 жыл бұрын
Or. You can also get better at guitar while spending time on improving tone. They’re not mutually exclusive buddy. Personally, I’d rather be a good guitarist with good tone than a good guitarist with mediocre tone. Plus it’s fun! Who cares if people spend time with pedals and making noise. Sheesh. Smoke a joint and go for a hike or something.

I‘ve been in a band with a guy that was a great guitar player, but he had this terrible tone with his Fender amp and Strat.. Eventually we got rid of him, and then this guy came with not so good skills, but with a massive Tone with only a Boss ds1 Pedal and a Vox amp. Made us all enjoy our rehersals and Gigs more, and more creative writing Songs.. Tone matters a lot! It can change a Song 100% if you know how..
