I think Miku was initially so loved because she's basically one of the first public domain characters. There is no "canon" personality or character, people get to make their own stories featuring her in them with no legal restrictions. Freedom to make art is one of the best things you could ever have

I think that the problem is that now every time a casual internet user looks at ANYTHING anime related they point and yell "fucking gooners" because they never could handle nor understand the anime culture and popularity. I'm sick and tired of this shit because these were the kind of people that made everyone hide their anime passion when they were younger. One of the biggest reasons for the popularity of miku was that she actually is a "virtual singer anime girl" and no twitter random is going to say to me that I should be ashamed for liking that, not anymore, im no longer 14 and I can express my love for "anime" the way I want...

@@LihuenAcuña Part of that is the whole thing about gooners themselves. Tell me, what gets more rule 34? Any old anime girl, or a woman from a random show? Tell me, why is it that it's much more common to see people discuss anime rule 34 'slop' (a lot of isekai, for instance) versus the same for live-action or american animation? Tell me, why does the word that starts with h and ends with 'tai' have *its own, dedicated word?* Does that mean anime is exclusively rule 34? No, that's for something that starts with hen and ends with tai. But it does mean that anime is more associated with gooners.

@ Last I checked Miku didn't have a SynthV voicebank. But yeah, even when it comes to the AI voices, I don't think it's bad at all. Unlike AI art that is purely prompts and 0 talent, vocal synths are a skill to learn. Every character has their own identities as well, even if not actual people. Saying you want to use 'Hatsune Miku' or 'Acme Iku' or any other synth is like wanting any other singer on your song. Sorry for rambling

It's been a trait that they've eventually incorporated into their mind which causes them to be ignorant since there aren't any real consequences if they do anyway. There are even multiple case studies from the American Psychological Association (APA) that also noticed the lack of empathy among users which over half of their interviewees confirmed which only further delves into the problem. It's honestly frustrating to deal with people who lack the basic knowledge to judge because instead of soaking up information their brain is already soaked up with brainrot.

From my memory of deep dives, I'm pretty sure Miku didn't *really* take off until Melt came out, because people mostly used her for memes back then. But then Melt came, it showed people that she can be used for so much more than funny hahas. I mean I wasn't there, or even conscious back then, but from what I've heard from people and videos I watched- Ryo is the reason Miku took off in both Japan and the West. Since Ryo made both Melt and World Is Mine- which World Is Mine is what got overseas fans into Miku, and why it's so important to so many people. Ryo also made Black Rock Shooter, ODDS&ENDS, and The Name Of Sin (which he came out of retirement to make). I barely ever hear people talk about these songs, it's a shame cause I honestly think they're some of the best. Vocaloid is truly a wonderful thing, it gave me one of my favorite stories (Kagerou Project), and my favorite songs that legit help me so much and my outlook on life. Hearing Hated By Life Itself's ending repeating just live, the stories that are told through one offs and whole albums, I'm so glad Miku took off, and I'm so glad she's getting more popular. She may not be a character with a concrete personality, or even real. Her lore technically being that she's a singer coming from a dystopian future to sing for us all. Even just Miku as a concept, it's what I and so many others came to love and grown attach to. Miku is not definite, she morphs into the wills of people, and will continue so long as we do. Idk what I'm yapping about anymore but the world is Miku's.

ugh, Hate it when people call me a gooner, weirdo, weeb, nerd, or any of that sort, whenever they find out that i think Miku is cool as could be. And when people call her, ''just an AI''... Well that's just simply idiotic, and only shows how willingly people pull a conclusion based off of nothing but maybe 1 tiny bit of info. I mean, i'm not even into anime, or vocaloid for that matter.. But i make an exception for Miku. She's just been around for so long, that i remember her even before my teenage years. I was never really into it back than, but i had nothing against it either. It's only because i learned more about her over the years, combined with how long i've known her by than, that my appreciation for her grew. The fact that she's mainly alive and popular because of so many different people expres themselves via her, is also honestly just really amazing. I'd never be a gooner for her, (I mean, come on.... She's 16.. Have some decency). I know damn well she's not an AI, (People who say that just honestly make my skin crawl due to their pure arrogance) And at least to me, she is very much an Icon. (And that doesn't make me a weirdo, or anything of that sort). If someone can't appreciate her, Or at least respect her role in the world of music. Then they just don't even know what they're looking at in the first place.

I'm with Miku for more than 6 years, and she led me through hell and back. Seeing countless amount of producers, their "thoughts" about Miku, I'm left speechless any time i try to fathom her whole picture. She feels like omnipresent creature, an artificial goddess, you can say. A lot of songs hit differently depending on how much time you spent with her, imo, and it is truly beautiful. Just for the sake of increasing popularity, I'd like to recommend my couple of bangers, which led me into Miku love: "Splatter Party" - first time i heard her voice so clear, it crushed me the moment her voice reached me; "Two breaths walking" series - such a sweet love-story between two people, i find myself crying most of the time i listen to it; "I'm glad you're evil too" - an absolute banger of calming, yet hard song with very deep lyrics that you can think about for a long time; "Unknown mother goose" - sadly, a final masterpiece from wowaka, which fits his picture so well, i cry every time i hear it. And that is just a couple of songs that hit me the hardest. Among her 100000s of songs, everyone can find their own song, or even write their own. That's why she's my favourite, always was and shall forever be one.

Yeah, I loved Rolling Girl and Aishite Aishite Aishite prior to Mesmerizer but the whole hidden messages and Miku as a character kind of shone to me. Also Brazillian Miku and Rabbit Hole was still trending at that time so all the Miku craze turned me into a bit of a fan for her. I wonder if there will be Teto and Neru to complete the Baka Trio. I'd literally get all three of yhem if that's the case. Anyways, Volcaloid songs hit different, last year I got into Kikuo's songs beyond his most popular one, and they're absolutely bangers. And well guess what there are still people making their own alternate universes (AUs) (for ex. the latest animated one that I saw is RESETALE which was inspired by other popular AUs) Making a self perpetuating cycle where poeple get inspired and started making their own stories. I still can't be more grateful for toby fox for making this game.

I'm not even a huge Miku or Vocaloid fan in general. I've played a bit of Project Sekai and Diva and heard a few of her popular songs, but she just has that appeal about her that makes me find her really cool. And the incredibly passionate fanbase behind her is just incredibly nice to see. I was incredibly hyped to see her being added in Fortnite and I bought EVERYTHING. And it pisses me off to see so many close minded people hate on her and her fans just because they find it "weird" or "cringe". Vocaloid culture is incredible, and this is coming from someone who isn't a huge Miku fan, just a guy who thinks she and her fans are awesome

Got a friend that LOVES Sakura Miku and collects the little statues, gave me a basic rundown on what she is. She doesn’t listen to her music, she just REALLY loves the design 😂 Didn’t really get it or understood why she’s so popular. Especially why people spend money to go to her concerts. Only really fell down the rabbit hole when she got into Fortnite, did research, messed up my KZbin algorithm, and got Miku stuck in my head for 6-7 days even now (I’m thinking Miku Miku oo-ee-oo and she won’t leave me alone, yeah I bought the skin in Fortnite for novelty and to troll players with the emote but ended up trolling myself 😩) But then you said “she’s kinda like Barbie, a blank slate” then it all started making sense. That’s really the best way to describe her. While I accidentally became a fan (mainly because of the dang song I can’t get rid of 😔) I now have a better understanding and I can appreciate the creative freedoms Miku provides, thanks , great video 👍

For real, the Vocaloid community is fun because the *fans* made it. The fans make music and fanart, and it creates headcanons, making the characters have a personality, and this is amazing!! Specially the deep meanings in the songs, like Kikuo's... Its breath taking. And as you mentioned, its like people depend on her, but she depends on people to bring her to life. Everything is so crazy, and i love this. Anyway, this video is just perfectly edited and too underrated. 🙌🏼🙌🏼✨✨

The world is hers, after all :) Edit: I just finished the video and you made the joke, darn it... But yeah, Miku helped me through a LOT of stuff. I remember listening to triple baka when I wanted to feel better after my Grandma (who acted like a mother to me) passed away, or when I was through depression and listened to Mind Brand and Rolling girl... My otaku phase where I heard her sing the Black Rock Shooter opening... She never had an opinion about what I was going through, but always had a song that would comfort me in any way... That's why I love Hatsune Miku. Hatsune Miku, My dog, drawing and Amy Rose were the few things that helped me through my adolescence, making me never giving up until I found people that would help me see this. That blue haired girl made me more happy than my biological mom in my entire life! Such a symbol of union, of love, of sadness, compassion, tragedy and many other feelings that only a human can experience... But she nails it all by just being Miku. I wish everyone had a Miku in their lives too... We don't deserve her, but we need her.

I love Miku so much. She's honestly gotten me through some of my hardest times in life. When I was 13, I got bullied pretty badly when I was in middle school. I had kids trying to follow me home and try to jump me it was that bad. But once I found ways to get home safely, I would legit spam Miku on the TV until I felt better. That's a stupid thing to say but Miku has really gotten me through some of the worst times in my life. That's probably why I love her so much and it's now 2025. I'll never forget Miku and I'll always love her. She's made life so much better. I dont know what I do without her songs 💙😭 I legit cried happy tears writing this 🥹🩵
