@@viewer-of-content Stores don't do tipping in the US. It's exclusively the foodservice industry for some reason.

@@U.Inferno You can buy products in a store without interacting with a person (self service cashiers) and tipping a human cashier would slow down the service too much. On the other hand, foodservice industry relies much more on customer's experience leading to more interaction between an employee and customer so tipping is more possible there than in stores
@viewer-of-content
@viewer-of-content 4 жыл бұрын
@@U.Inferno Tipping is now a feature on some of the newer cash registers in the US that even asks for a tip in self checkouts. I went somewhere the other day at the iPad like self checkout it asked 10%, 15%, 20%, or choose your own tipping percentage. What sort of scamming economic system are we coming to that a price tag means nothing. 😅 The only way to pay no tip at this self checkout was to custom write 0%. And then it asked do you want to donate to a charity for the order which fyi the store corporation you're shopping at can often use your donation as a part of the store's tax write offs, depending on how they file it on their back end😅

I know. I live over at Keroka Town and things are getting ugly as each rainy season passes, creating landslides worsening each year, especially on the short rains of October. If that persists, it may be possible that Victoria Lake itself will flood all eastwards of it, drowning us.

But first it would be a bunch of lakes and rivers tho right? Then I’d think it would be a sea then ocean. The bits in South Africa and Ethiopia (and any other thin bits) would be straights kinda like the straight of Gibraltar. Maybe the afar straight and cape straight? Regardless it would be pretty cool to watch how modern country’s would split the ocean and land and sea and stuff. I wonder if it would be classified as international water or if the nations would claim ownership of it. Maybe they would dig a canal to get to the middle faster? It would be cool

Probably the best episode of Half as Interesting humor-wise. Most episodes are a little cringeworthy with the jokes when you’re just there for the information, but this one is so full of it(though with educational parts too) that you’re just there for the ride. Good thing this episode is sponsored by a charity too!

The concept of short informative videos is great and I’ve watched this channel for several years. Most topics brought up here are interesting and delivered in a way that makes it fun to watch with the animations that go along with the explainations. However as of late, I think there has been a bit too many jokes that are out of context and don’t really contribute anything to the video that could be left out. Am I the only one who feels this way? This is meant as constructive criticism and nothing else.

True. It makes the video feels cheaper. And almost 1/3 of the video are jokes, 1/3 ads, 1/3 educational info. That's like 2/3 of non-related content.

When I was growing up, I was always taught there were 7 oceans… I don’t know why, or what they are, but there was an extra one somewhere around Indonesia that was separate from Indian/Pacific oceans, and there were two oceans in the arctic and one of them had a different name. I still don’t know why, but I was taught about the 7 oceans and 7 continents, and remember being told it was easy to remember because they had the same number…

well technically, because of ocean gyres and other currents they atlantic and pacific ocean both are divided into a southern and northern part, and the water doesn't mix much between the oceans, so you could say there are 7 oceans.

I'm glad the video qualified its point by stating truthfully that scientists have NO IDEA whether this new ocean will form or not...because we really have very little idea of what that process looks like, and what needs to happen (at the micro and macro levels) for a continent to completely rift and new oceanic crust to form. Also, even assuming this does eventually happen (keeping in mind that these processes have been going on for 30 million years in East Africa, and there have been periods where the rifting slowed to a stop, before picking up again...ramping up to a whopping 7 millimeters a year), the question of when it happens is also hotly debated. The world could have a new contender for its largest island (it would definitely be bigger than New Guinea...and depending on where the split happens, could absolutely dwarf Greenland) in anywhere from 20 million years to 100+ million years. We just don't know. If anyone's interested, one of my favourite online geologists, Dr. Erik Klemetti, wrote a really thorough piece on this subject: eos.org/articles/are-we-seeing-a-new-ocean-starting-to-form-in-africa

For all those in the 4 vs 5 oceans debate: "The Southern Ocean is the 'newest' named ocean basin. It is recognized by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names as the body of water extending from the coast of Antarctica to the line of latitude at 60 degrees South. The boundaries of this ocean were proposed to the International Hydrographic Organization in 2000. However, not all countries agree on the proposed boundaries, so this has yet to be ratified by members of the IHO. The U.S. is a member of the IHO, represented by the NOS Office of Coast Survey." -National Ocean Service, NOAA
