I can understand the change, but I really liked “Light Ponderings”. I found the double meaning of the name endearing.

I’d be interested to see how translucency/opacity and texture (say a smooth-polished finish vs a rough or frosted finish) interact with light/color, especially since skin itself scatters, absorbs, and allows through light to varying extents.

I don't usually drop a comment but I just wanna say thank you from the bottom of my heart, a year ago I found a video of you painting an egg and it transformed my perception of color and light into awe and wonder. So much so that I actually start love doing digital paintings again, I started with life studies, landscapes, portraits and man it's been a wild ride so far where I had to relearn the pillars of art to become a digital matte painter. Each with their own set of challenges and when I do get these setbacks I would go back to your channel and binge watch to remember why I love doing this. Again I just wanna say thank you for uploading these vids where I thought color and light would be a beast to tackle at the start but understanding in bite size pieces makes it easier to digest to a newcomer! If it's possible I would love to see a video dedicated on how lighting interacts on bodies of water.

For now, im doing 1 hour studies. If im "ahead" of time, and want to then refine it more, i find myself basically redoing what i already have done (but a little different) instead of refining what i already have. I seem to have a tough time figuring out how to refine and get more detail out of my drawings. That is something i would like to learn.

As a clueless amateur this is the best art channel I've found! Personally I'm working in 3D, where making light "correct" is easy, but making it beautiful is hard. I'd love some more focus on what features of an image lead to that vibrant beauty quality that makes a piece pop, and general rules of thumb that lead to great images when designing from scratch.
@chereex9563 Жыл бұрын
As someone who just finished a piece in 3d focusing on vibrancy, Make sure the main colours are bright and saturated. Have contrast in the image, learn basic color correction in compositing, Its an actual magic tool. Half my images go from dull to POP because of it. Especially with bloom. Hdris can be great for adding color to an object too, you can also adjust the color of the hdri to make it give warmer or cooler. The color temperature video is pure gold on this channel.

Hi Jeremy, great that you have made the name of the channel similar to the website. I have just become a member of painting 101 class. Actually would be great if you can teach us thumbnailing before drawing a portrait/figure painting. I don't know maybe it is already in one of the classes but just thought to share my thoughts. Keep up the great work!

Interesting questions. My main issue would be 'how to get the right light in a scene that is created from imagination"? For example, I have some reference photos of different elements I want to integrate in a scene. But the light is different. The way light bounces and interacts with the different elements makes it hard to find the right values and colors that would make it look - if not realistic - natural, or at least pleasing to the eye.

Would love to see how you form light around simple movements. Example: ball rolling through an alley at night passing by street lamps. Also, how do you see light change when the subject is still? Example: Your choices if an emply lonely amazon box tossed to the curb sits out in the sunlight and then through the rain and then all night under the stars until a stray kitty makes a litter of kittens in her .

I'd love to see you share on how you use reference photos. A while back you showed an example from Ratatouille from a scene you drew of the rats all congregating with a flat color scheme and a really dynamic one. I want to see the reference you found for the dynamic image you ended up using -- it was a great image, but the way the light hit the crowd of rats just looked real. I'm curious to know how you use/find reference for these unique images! Love the channel!!

I discovered this channel last week and have binged a bunch of your videos! I absolutely love this - you clearly have a gift and/or experience for teaching in a very accessible way. The way the videos follow on from each other feels like a great teaching course. And your heart for it shines through which is so wonderful! It seems like so many art tutorials on KZbin are by people who are either naturally gifted or have so much experience that they take for granted knowledge that most of us don't have, so we're still left feeling like we don't understand the nuts and bolts of things. (Like reading a textbook which says "so obviously x means that z..." and you're like, um I think you skipped a few steps!) I have no natural gift for art so all progress is a slog! But just a few videos have already completely changed how I think about doing an artwork and I feel like I finally "levelled up" 😄 the idea of colour studies feels like I finally have a clear path to improving that's more helpful than "just practise", and your demos are super helpful for knowing what to aim for and what to ignore. One thing I struggle with and would love a video on is how to learn to see values e.g. when creating a value sketch from a colour reference. Sometimes it's really not obvious. Maybe it's just "practice" but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks again for creating this channel and putting so much into it - it's a rare gem!

Thank you Jeremy for making this channel tbh. I like the new name channel. I wanted to say you are my mentor and opened my eyes to understand color and lighting more easier. Also, I take down notes every word you said especially the dead marshes, I'm really stuck in that place especially those faces where I'm struggling with money and connections/community to show my arts. When you said that you'll be having an apprenticship, I'm really pumped up right now. I hope I could be one of those people to work in the studio as an apprentice. Thank you, my virtual art teacher. Keep more quality contents in this channel. I hope u could create a discord community someday!

Developing an art style Things I'd like to see: How to digitally replicate painting with other mediums. in my uneducated opinion everything tends toward realistic or cell shaded cartoony, replicating oil paints or watercolor is harder. There are millions of 'beginner artist' tutorial videos. Intermediate or advanced thoughts will likely not do as well on you tube but they would be nice to have landscape and far distance painting Additional thoughts on painting process, when is it okay to not paint details of something that isn't the focus of the artwork/when it would add to things paint background details
