From 2000 to 2013 I was heavily involved in Southern Evangelical Seminary - first as a student, then as President Norman Geisler's grad assistant, then as Director of Distance Education, and finally as a Professor. Over the course of my last 5 years with SES, however, I began to see glaring problems with Evangelicalism and eventually found my way into the Catholic Church. The church can be wrong, remember it changed its position on a geocentric solar system; evolution and limbo. You also appear to be taking it out of context of Matthew 26: 29, where Jesus makes it clear that he is talking metaphorically. I personally find it telling that the church has only to put it's transubstantiation claim to scientific scrutiny and makes excuses for not doing so.

I was born Catholic, but when I was 12 my abusive and controlling motjer forced me and my 4 siblings to get baptized in the Mormon church with her. It was completely against my will, my 11 year old brother was against it too. Years later when I was at BYU, I went through a spell of trying very hard to believe in Mormonism, because I was so impacted by their claims and it was a real mind----. But the more I researched, the more I realized how false of a religion Mormonism was. I started at age 18 to attend Catholic church again. Immediately I felt I was back home, but I was still trying to be openminded and prayed to God so hard for the truth. (It is VERY difficult to be Catholic at BYU. This was the 80s when the Mormon church was very vocal against Catholicism.) Well my mind and heart found peace and truth in the Catholic church there in Provo, and after years of searching I've never looked back. None of my siblings have stayed Mormon, and neither did my mother after everything she put us through. So that's a snapshot of my journey back to the Catholic church. God bless you.

That is one of the few things that Americans are still free to do; at least for the time being. Americans are still able to worship whatever brand of religion they choose. There have only been two religions in the history of mankind that have persecuted and executed human beings for not worshipping their brand of religion. Catholic and Islam. God's Word mentions how the harlots or Protestants will return to the Mother Church, the Vatican, the woman in scarlet riding upon the Beast. This is the resurrected Holy Roman Empire. A ten nation European combine, led by Germany, with the Vatican riding on its back. After the dollar becomes worthless, the U.S. will enter into civil unrest and one third of the U.S. population will die. The Europeans will become unified economically, financially and militarily. Their population will become some 350 million. They will connect at the hip with South America through a trade alliance making the ten nation European combine the undisputed superpower of the world. Charlemagne will rise again and rivers of blood will flow in his wake. History merely repeats itself and man will continue to make the same mistakes over and over and over again. The Europeans will betray the U.S. and another third of the U.S. population will die. Those left alive will either be executed or sent around the world as slaves. This will be done by the one world church/state union that will try to dominate the world one more time. Satan is behind this but he certainly won't prevail. This will end in nuclear WWIII between Europe and a 200 MILLION man Eurasian/Asian army. Europe will be overwhelmed and devastated yet there will be no winners. God's government that rests upon the pillars of His perfect spiritual law, the purest form of love and liberty known to mankind, God's Ten Commandments, will rule this Earth for all eternity. This government will destroy the armies of the nations of the world, break in pieces the governments of the world, man will never again rule over man and Satan and his demons who have deceived the whole world, controlling the institutions of this Earth will be cast from Earth Into outer darkness for a thousand years. This will all take place under the authority of Jesus Christ, King of kings, Lord of lords, and His Bride who will share the throne with her Husband for all eternity and assisted by the 144,000 who would lose their life in order to gain their life. Only then will salvation begin for ALL humanity that have ever lived on Earth, who lived a grand illusion of lies and deception, a wasted life having been deceived about what the true Gospel is all about and mankind's true purpose.

The True Church is the one established by Christ for the redemption of the human race. The True Church traces her beliefs and practices in an unbroken line back to the times of the Apostles, who received them from Christ. For example, the Last Supper sequence in the Gospel of St. John contains the genesis for the Mass and it was at the Last Supper that Jesus ordained his first priests. A recent convert as well here, I was 50 years a protestant and it is harder than most people understand to convert but overiding everything is finding the truth, its very powerful. I'm now a theology student at Franciscan and I thought it was pretty profound when you said you were in your doctorate program and had never taken a class on Church history, that kinda says it all ;)

Hi, it must have been an intense and profound journey to convert after 50 years. But precisely for this background I would like to ask you a question. I am Italian and at a certain point youtube started recommending Protestant and Catholic videos to me, many of them American. In almost all of them I hear of a clear division at times almost sick. I see it very often in comments, or in interactions. my question is this: in the United States in the various churches do they speak badly of other denominations? I ask because, for example, here in Italy or in the European countries that I have visited and in which I have friends, I have never heard of these dynamics. Always and only taught to me we are brothers and sisters in Christ then at school in the hour of history all the motivations were deepened. Sorry for my English

I'm so glad I got to hear your story, Doug! I recently discovered you on the "How To Be Christian" channel. I was accepted into the church this past Easter - thanks be to God I dealt with demonic oppression last year - And I think our blessed Mother is calling on men right now to join the church and join the fight, but I can't prove this - at the same time I was reading the early church fathers, which, as you know, are irrefutably Catholic in theology. Everything fell like a house of cards one day while re-reading the Magnificat. God is good for it is by His grace only I am home.

That was a huge factor in mine for sure! While many of my EV "friends" were in a panic and telling lies about me, the Catholics just relaxed and waited for me to figure it out. :)

I was baptized catholic, but never was really religious. In fact, I became a strong and harsh atheist. Especially catholic church was the worst institution ever for me. 20 years ago I left the church. My prophets were Dawkins, Hitchens and so on. It was almost impossible and unimaginable for me, that a guy named Jesus ever existed. I felt woke and enlightened, smarter than all the "relidiots". A year ago my mind began to change. I felt a kind of inner call, which wanted to fill the void inside me. Well, I began reading philosophy, realized, that naturalism also just is a self-proving dogma. In my research, I always came across god. I took my bible, which was full of notes I made as atheist few years ago, began to read the "cruel" verses again, but in another point of view. Hmmm... my world view began to brittle... i wanted to prove to myself, I was on the wrong way and read several books, Blogs, watched Videos and so on. Catholic church was still heretic to me, I was on the best way to become a protestant. But as I found out, there wouldnt even been a bible without the catholic church I doubted sola scriptura. Then I realized, that protestant side is fractured into uncountable denominations cause they had no common sense about the script. I visited catholic church again. Spoke to our priest. 4 weeks ago he welcomed me back in the catholic church. I confessed my sins from the last 25 years, I cried like a little child, was overwhelmed from the grace of forgiveness. I join the mass regularly, try to pray several times a day. It feels like being home. The void inside me becomes smaller and smaller. People Who know me, thinks I am crazy, cause I always hated religion. Now I am 40. It needed 40 years of wandering through a crazy world to find home. Now I can say, I just dont believe in god, I am sure there is a god. And that there is one true church, founded by his son, on St. Peter the rock. Yes indeed! I had this analysis just last night. A lot of catholics who drifted away from the catholic church are those who were innocent. But those who came back, or who just got converted are those people who knew the deepest truth!

Many cradle Catholics learn the faith from a child's perspective. It's watered down so that children can understand the basics, which makes sense. Unfortunately, too often after that very little is built on that foundation and a childish understanding of the faith has a hard time weathering an adult secular world view. Faith formation needs to be a regular practice into teen years and adulthood.

I am a 62 years old cradle Catholic, born in Costa Rica and at my time the country was 100% Catholic, to this day with in the Government offices you can see the signs of Catholicism even though it is no longer only Catholic. As some one that commented said, we were not properly Catechized, we just learned this is it, this is the truth. In my case my family was very strong at teaching us this. I came to the USA at the age of 21 and started my own journey, my very first move was find a Church, because that is what we do, go to Church but in my case, I was very profoundly thought about the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Don’t get me wrong I would hope for rain so I had an excuse to not go to Mass. I encountered my self in a very big country where I was the only Catholic around, unless I was in Church, that was very strange and difficult, specially when asked, have you been saved? Long story short in 1993 I had a very extreme conversion from one day to the next, but I was given this gift within my Catholic Church and then started to learn why I was one. More and more fell in love with it. Now I can answer yes I was saved since then. I always say though, that the best Catholics are the converts from other denominations. Thank you for your witness, it immensely help us all cradle Catholics. Welcome!

Dr. Beaumont, your "Journey Home" is now my favorite episode of that show and my favorite conversion story in general. I'm sure it was not an easy one. I love your honesty in addressing the questions that began your journey and how you didn't pull the wool over your own eyes so that you could remain where you were. You followed the truth where it led and I find that so very admirable. The Church is blessed to have you! I was raised Catholic and simply drifted. My own journey home began with an introduction and study of apologetics that prominently included the work of Frank Turek. I pray that he too will one day make the journey home. Sadly, Catholicism isn’t the way to heaven it leads to the same end as Brahman Hinduism, one must be born again without following any denomination dear soul, please come out from Catholicism and follow Lord Jesus Christ in spirit and in truth. Lord Jesus Christ is coming back everyone, please don’t worship celebrities and entertainment, focus on Him alone. I promise there’s more to life than money, partying, homosexuality and music. Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Anyone who thinks the Name of Lord Jesus Christ is a joke, boldly mocks and scorns Him or takes pleasure in people who do is in for a big unpleasant surprise on judgement day IF they don’t repent and follow Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝️💜❤️✝️! Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget! So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

Thanks Douglas for a fair and simple explanation. As a Protestant (but not Reformed) I think I would recognise that God moved through people, I.E. the church, when He established the Scriptures. I can understand why you divided from Protestantism over this issue, but I’m at peace about it myself, though fascinated by how the canon came to be. The Bible is so extraordinary. Christ brought freedom in following Him, and has given us the anointing which teaches all things. As in your other video interacting with Gavin Ortlund, we as individuals don’t evaluate the church’s teaching, but allow the Lord to teach us through the church. I very much enjoyed your video, and while not a believer, for example, in transubstantiation, I do believe something very powerful happens when we take the bread and wine, and also when we are baptised. Getting closer to God is my heart, and the church is the means of doing it. I have no quarrel with Catholicism. Bless you in your ministry. My friend Gideon told me of your channel!
