Kevin Goodman is a fire captain who is used to running into dangerous situations. He also thinks students shouldn't have to be exposed to them, as more kids are plagued with horrific violence in schools. It’s why he came up with Escape Armour, which are bulletproof vests that can easily fit into backpacks. “This is also something that is a realistic threat...and we have to prepare for it,” Goodman tells KPHO. I remember when my middle school/High school in Philly installed metal detectors at the entrance due to safety reasons. This was back in the late 90's to early 2000's. I think this needs to be done for all schools including Colleges and Universities in the US. It would help prevent a lot of these shootings from happening or at least make it a bit more difficult for someone to bring in firearms or knives...

To add to this you also need security that actually checks, my school has metal detectors and a kid still managed to bring in a kitchen knife. He would have hurt a group of other students if our school resource officer hadn't been there when he pulled the knife.

That's more common than you think. The "threat" doesn't even have to get on campus for a lockdown to happen, as soon as the school is alerted of a armed burglar within proximity, even miles from the school, it is standard to go on lockdown. And yes, continue working because nobody is pointing a weapon at you.

depends on the school, staff, country, county, province, town, city, village. In my highschool 2013-2015 here in California deny parents metal detectors being placed inside the school at the front gates. What ended happening was that we were in the news atleast 6 times the first year and another 7 times the second year. 90% being gun related due to guess what gang violence. Someone in the school district thought it would be a good idea to get kids with gang affiliation from different areas, mix them together, and force them to come mix with middle class ppl of color. End result was constant fighting and anxiety that caused 2 middle class kids to try to get their father guns tho both failed, one kid ended his father but stayed home after realizing what he did and didnt come to school to fullfill his previous goals. and the other was kid actually was stopped by his father but ended up ending his own son fighting over the gun to not allow him to leave the house and take it to school

Why just not just improve the schools security, have one entry and exit points and both have metal detectors and security guards. Schools in America is expected to have that resources at the very least. Here in the Philippines, although a 3rd world country, most schools has one entry and exit points, with metal detectors, security guards is also a common thing in schools here, both public and private and we rarely to never have shooting incidents in schools. I think we should have school security guards with guns who have experience with them. We did this at my church because someone was sending death threats and so far them walking around with them on their hip has been a great deterent for any would be shooters.

They should have a warning system for shooters like they do for fires. A notable siren so that kids can put these on faster. Has to be a sound different from the fire alarm so they're not confused. Sad, but at least these will save lives! Smart man.

I need to contact this guy. I am also one who is seeking to create protection for the innocent against the goonery of active shooters. My idea is to bring back the technology that the NRA has been fighting for over a decade, which is body scanners that can detect concealed weapons in a crowd. A lockdown can occur immediately if someone enters the parking lot with a gun, regardless of whether it is made of plastic or metal.

I would watch this after my son left to school smh… what is this world coming to… I would honestly cry if I have to see my son go to school with a bullet proof vest. But the guy is right we can’t pretend it’s not happening… it’s a very serious issue and no parents should have to fear of there child leaving what’s about to be a “safe place for kids” now becoming a war zone.
