While I like the larger tire setup that you have, I think a 50 lb. 285/70/17(K02 or Recon Grappler Standard Load or MT BB Standard Load) is probably the best setup to go with if you want to stay with a stock suspension/no regear and still hit 20mpg at lower elevation/moderate temps. Things I learned to fitting larger tires on stock suspension are Offset is crucial (0 to +12), adjust caster via lower control arm (stock is 2.4, I had mine adjusted to 3.2 degrees, not sure why most don't mention this or know that it can be adjusted) and at that point the only other adjustment needed is to move the wheel liner forward via zip ties

Yeah 20 mpg is killer and if you have a lot more weight I'm even more impressed I'm just stating that if you were build out like mine 16 mpg may be the best you see without a regear. I agree 285/70 on stock suspension of even a small level kit or bilstein lift is perfect for 99% of people who have a pretty other wise stock truck. Also Recon Grapplers look so good.

I run 285/75r16 Falken Wildpeaks on my 3rd gen and im also regeared to 4:88s. I highly recommend getting gears. Really gives the truck its low end grunt back. I get about 17.5 mpg if I keep it less than 70mph. I want to go 34s next and so glad I have the gears for that. Im looking to lose about 1mpg when I go 34s.

It will probably be a next year thing but yeah 16-17mpg sounds nice. Even so I love the 34s you wont regret it one bit.

For a cost effective daily, i personally only use suspension components with rubber bushings as opposed to spherical bearings. A lot of folks aren't going to be able to service their own spherical bearings due to lack of knowledge/tools/time/etc. While it’s not too difficult, it is something to consider. I am speaking from experience going from Elkas to Dobinsons. Love both, but was tired of pulling the elkas every year or so to replace worn out sphericals. Also, very informational, thanks for putting out these videos!
@quicksendtaco

Icon makes their own serviceable lower ring and spherical bearing kit for like $60. I can see that bothering people who only relay on shops though. Ideally we’d all rock the OEM rubbers on each kit haha. Thanks!

Not bad. I daily my adventure/overland truck 😊 I’m currently on 265/70R17 17x9 -12mm 1.5” front / 1.75” rear MPG ~17.5 Once these tires wear out, I’m hoping to get 285’s/33” It’ll give me time to prep for the bigger size (cutting, UCA) Thanks for the breakdown.

Danggg I miss the days of seeing 18-20 mpg. 285s are honestly a really great tire, I loved that size as well. Another golden standard for sure!

It sounds silly, but another factor in suspension/lift/tire setups is to see how high up the truck is compared to the driver. If you could show yourself standing by the truck and tell us your height, that would also help in figuring out how I want to build my truck.
@quicksendtaco
@quicksendtaco 26 күн бұрын
I suppose this could be considered but my truck isn't very tall all things considered... It's only about a 2.5 inch lift plus tires. But I am on the taller side of Tacoma drivers I'm 6'4 and my wife is 5'8. I'll try and get a shot of myself next to the truck in an upcoming video!

Awesome video. Your setup is perfect. Im running 305/70r17 same size a 34 with a 3.5 in lift. They look like 35s so no point getting a bigger tire. 0.4 inch difference from a 35 you can't even notice. My mpg sucks 12.9-13 mpg average but I'm on a mud terrain. I copied how you cut the back fender with the pinch weld looks really good and oem ish lol. I rather not regear either haven't noticed a power drop just the mpg lol. Only thing i would change for me is to an all terrain to see if maybe a little better mpg. Love the look of your truck man
@quicksendtaco
@quicksendtaco 6 ай бұрын
Right on! Yeah MT doesn't make a 305 but I have a feeling they are a similar fit. I'm guessing you have a Nitto tire? They make a lot of 305s. Oh awesome yeah I think that is the most amount of cutting I'd want to do any more and it could get a little ugly for me haha. Where do you live? I'm here in CA and it is definitely not flat but I also drive super gingerly when I'm daily-ing it. I'll make a final decision on a re-gear after I add the bumpers this year. I really hope i dont need to. Thanks again!

I have the C4 inner fender liner and didn't trim my outer fenders. 2017 TRD Sport As long as the spacers are hub centric you won't run into as many issues. Spacers do increase wear on hubs, same as wheels with an aggressive much offset. There have been multiple shops around me that will refuse to work on and even align a vehicle with spacers.
@quicksendtaco
@quicksendtaco 5 ай бұрын
Woah, really??? Never heard of a shop refusing business because of spacers haha their loss. How is the C4 kit without the fender trim isn't it just a cab mount relocation at that point all the other stuff is just cleaner looking but as functional as what I did.
@zlothra
@zlothra 5 ай бұрын
@@quicksendtaco Same, until it happened to my friend. He ended up finding a spot that didn't care. I didn't get the full kit since I had the DRT cab mount relocation before, so I just bought the metal fender liner. I'm planning on doing the viper cut like you eventually, so figured it would make it look cleaner. I was original planning on 35s but cost and life got in the way. So I'm chilling on 265/70r17 right now but at least I'll have some extra room when the time comes. I'll probably go with the same size and tire you have, or 285/70r17.

I know spacers have mixed opinions, I've never ran them before but I'm curious on how you feel about them? Have you enjoyed them so far and do you have anything you don't like about them?
@quicksendtaco
@quicksendtaco 6 ай бұрын
No issues ever, I have had them on for over a year now and had them on some of the toughest trails I have been on. I love em gives me the flexibility to change wheel setups or run larger tires without getting new wheels and adjust offset on the fly. In the future I may do a stud conversion so i can run different spacer sizes. I also had them on many other cars never had issues. Just gotta use the red lock tight and proper torque specs.

Makes sense those have an SL load rating so much fewer plys and much lighter with that size. That's rad you got a setup to be under 70lbs. Do you have any armor or racks that could also be added weight? 18-19mpg is pretty close to what a stock Tacoma gets.
