1. This video might be too negative side. I'm sure there're some actresses who are totally happy and have no regrets. I should've mentioned about that. I'm sorry. 2. What I talked about is mainly based on the book (AV女優消滅 セックス労働から逃げ出す女たち) whose author interviewed many porn stars and researched on it a lot. The link is in the description for anyone who can read Japanese. 3. "KZbin is an entertainment place! Why do you talk about social issues in Japan? No one cares about it. Your channel is so out of place here." I've been getting this message a lot, so let me say about it: I understand people on KZbin usually seek entertainment, not educational or informative content. But at the same time, many of them are pretty young, inexperienced or uneducated about Japan. In other words, they only know the good side of Japan. There're a countless number of foreign KZbinrs only producing entertaining content as KZbin is an entertainment place. But I believe that it's important to have a balanced view and stop having unrealistic expectations on Japan.

Bloody interesting, and I hope the increasing awareness of these problems along with the increasing accountability of the companies involved for dodgy sourcing methods leads to a decline in the industry. Personally despite you're discussion of social issues your videos have given me an overwhelmingly positive view of Japan, my country along with many other western countries has many similar issues however they are in both degree and number a lot worse and there is little awareness of them or room for civil dialog about them and increasingly any discussion of anything is merely part of a larger dogmatic ideological war and not a issue in it's own right. I'm currently training to become a teacher and your videos have made me think about moving to Japan once I've finished as it's become very clear that I don't want to raise children in the political and social culture that currently pervades nor in a state with institutions that fundamentally won't protect them if needed.

I think it's good that the actresses now have the right to have their content removed from legitimate sites if they choose; it's unfortunate that illegitimate sites host bootleg versions of their work and are generally the go to for most people. I think it would help if the legitimate internet hosting company for Japanese production houses channeled some of it's revenue into both regulating illegal posting of it's material and imposing a royalty scheme for actresses and actors when their content is accessed on top of their initial performance fee. Once a video is made, Hokuto Corporation essentially has the ability to print unlimited money for all time with it unless the performer redacts it. They would do well to share their profits fairly.

Unfortunately, a big lack of awareness and knowledge about the industry, assumptions based on false pretense, and old ideas of the industry seem to drive a lot of these decisions. I feel like it's no exaggeration to tell a woman who is considering entering this industry that doing so truly means they will be stuck to that or similar industries for the rest of their life unless they have the determination to develop skills and start a business or work and live in another country after retiring, and even then it will be needlessly harder.
@Ben7Roethlisberger2 жыл бұрын
Actually the future is much brighter than the present, because the present and its economy is still being driven by people born in 50's and 60's. The problem is societal judgement and outdated views in Japan, not so much the preference of their choices. Many industries in other parts of the world, especially among the younger generation wouldn't so much care about things like that. As long as you have the skills to make money and grow the business, career paths are wide open. Also I think most people will not have any negative/positive views if a co-worker had such career in many sectors like the tech industry because there is very little judgement and opinion on the issue from both the working environment and the clients. It's just a matter of time, although sadly for them they now have to live through these difficulties but the younger generation simply doesn't care anyway near as much.

I'd imagine even a few years ago, porn was quite exclusive to few actresses, due to the limited number of websites and DVD publishers of which whom controlled who got to be on their service, so popular actresses could demand bigger pay and become household names, however you were still fundamentally an employee beholden to your employer. The sudden rise of actresses being able to own and monetise their own produced content, build dedicated fanbases to potentially millions of customers on massive centralised websites, without much of any middleman taking the lions share like before. The downside is the competition is now insane, because if you strike it lucky, you become rich and in control of your own business, no longer just an employee. Also everyone is so much more lonely today, some will be willing to just be a fan or have a "girlfriend" experience of chatting and being entertained by them more as people, not just for their bodies.

Economy is nature, and nature does not bend. Women making money from men's lack of women is a self-feeding fire. Normal women see the easy money and become incentivized to make more men miserable. Those same men lose motivation to work, leaving them with less money to spend on porn and the like. Meanwhile, the porn industry will cannibalize itself, leaving only the strongest. Women will continue flocking to the industry even as it capsizes. The lonely men will be hated, seen as the source of women's suffering. At least they'll enjoy endless hours of free porn... @blacksuite1 I know you want answer from the author of the comment but I find his comment quite “difficult” to comprehend because it seems so exaggerated from my perspective. But that doesn't mean I think it´s not true at all. In my opinion “hated” is very exagerrated. But I can’t see lonely people (man or woman doesn’t matter so much here) as alright by society. Why it should be alright ? I was alone so many years.. it’s not alright now I can agree. I have friends who are alone and some of them for years and again it´s not alright because they are not alright (but that doesn't mean that not-alone people can’t have some issues) Common people are not lonely monks. Common people are social and they have natural needs to make bonds emotional, physical, and for sure even spiritual. Nature does not bend as Duco Darling wrote. You can see lonely people alright and some of them can be alright, healthy and happy by their own. But majority of lonely people’s is not because again: common people are not like lonely monks. It´s just my opinion and my english is not very good. I will say also this: you can (and should also) love yourself, be happy on just your own, but true happiness is real when it’s shared. I didn’t get it and didn’t believe it when I was alone. But now I get it and now I see how much pain and saddness it was before in my lonely life but I did pretend it´s not so bad for so many years.. now I at least appreciate having someone, love and be loved not just by myself and I say “thanks” everyday for that, for love, for life, for others. So maybe it was good for something (the loneliness) I needed the experience for sure. So listen to your heart whether you are “common”, monk or someone else but never forget how nature works it does not bend (at least mostly :-D)

I mean are we going to pretend like this hasn't always been the case. Sex "work" has always had a hierarchy. Even in brothels. The top women earned the most meanwhile the ones who couldn't even get into the brothel fought for scraps. Here you have women who know the stigma, who know the chances of finding an accepting job and husband after the fact and who know the chances of making it big enough to offset the negatives are slim and they still do it. Just because some women are the exception it doesn't mean that being a 304 has never been anything but a poor choice.
@nunyabidnis38152 жыл бұрын
You are right that exploitative hierarchies choke this profession, as it does in practically all professions. Though, sex work *is* work. No less than a comedian or actor is valued for their ability to create an atmosphere or mood, and evoke feelings from the audience. Adult film is by no means an industry beyond reproach, nor is everything caught on camera some elaborate evocative 'performance'.. Yet this is not a fault of performers, workers, or participants, that the market exists, or for the price and pay it offers. Whether people turn to the profession for the art or expression, whether due to economic percarity, false hopes ginned up by the industry, the consistent point is that the workers require the jobs they undertake to provide living wages, safe conditions, and a right to basic human dignity. Furthering the stigma that, "they knew what they signed up for," is part of how these production companies, whether large or independent, can continue to ratchet down on the pay and conditions of workers in this field; everyone will let them, because the workers are, "othered," and considered worthy of whatever fate is offered. Even seeing the harm is causes them, there's a disconnect that they brought it on themselves, so there's nothing that can or should be done.. which I feel is quite wrong. I for instance, do not appreciate or respect people who make country music. Yet, in spite of this, their performances and art should not be exploited by massive production companies at the expense of the performer's value of labor, or their right to dignity. If a major label were raking even bad artists over the coals, ones I could do without or see their art as unsightly, the performers still don't deserve that.

Just because people want to exploit workers/actors/etc. doesn't mean, and in fact should mean they shouldn't earn silly amounts of money. Somehow what they make isn't silly? Could it also be the two are related? Some mass producer drives down the price to make more off of quantity, and pay the actors less in the process, that is a predictable problem. If that makes things harder for people, they're more desperate. So... then what do they do? They have to further compromise on the amount or extent of their performances. That's the opposite of what it sounds like you want. "What makes you think actresses in an actually regulated industry are that much more special?" The dignity of necessities like decent legal, medical, housing, education, and other access. The kind of things that enable people not to be coerced into doing work that would be morally divisive to them. If we know corporate growth is going to cause a race to the bottom for workers, and they're still going to be dependent on that income.. that's a very perverse incentive. That means the company can pay even less, get even more work... The side effect is people you seem to hold some contempt for. You know that if a sentence that should normally be written long is reduced to a single word, that thing is common in society. There are even sub-arts under Shunga. For example, Shibari. importance of this video is also here: warn other young women (who don't realize by themselves) to not even go into this "industry" to begin with, because it's now almost or already obsolete, and will not find a good job afterwards, especially not in Japan. not all people continuously watch p0rn. many people don't do it anymore, either having relationships, families, or other better things to do. gaming is more addictive than p0rn as gaming brings a real sense of accomplishment unlike p0rn, which might bring a sense of disappointment and emptiness instead.

a TON of people still watch porn. Sex will always sell. Maybe you don't, but many people do and always will. The money is in doing custom work/commissions. These giant industries are failing because they cannot adapt to how things are. look at every industry out there. The companies that can't evolve all die out. Like Block Buster and now, ironically, Netflix is in the beginning stages of dying because they can't innovate past what they started. Individuals working from home can make custom porn content and make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. A few can make millions a year. But these supposed "professional" can't? They're stuck in their ways and are failing to adapt. A company with cash could easily step in, hire 5-10 women of different varieties and do custom content for higher paying customers who want it. The women could all set their own limits and everything. Just do what peopel at home are doing but on a slightly bigger scale. But nope. They keep operating as if it's still the 90's and expecting it to work? That's not how it works. You have to do niche and more tailored content. That's how you get people to pay for porn. You make stuff that no one else is making. So many women are making bank online and they aren't even showing themselves nude. How are these "professionals" unable to figure it out when thousands of people, possibly millions figured it out nearly 10 years ago?

Regarding the woman struggling with income, shouldn't it in theory be easier to find a job outside of porn? The market is over saturated, the odds of recognition if she is not famous is low. Market oversaturation could also give an excuse with the sheer number of women in the industry there could simply be an actress that somewhat resembles her. While her situation may be terrible, she should still try to improve her situation.

This is true and not. Opportunities for women are less than man. The idea is that once a woman gets married, as soon as she gets pregnant they will lose her and any training they put into her. And any well paying job would likely look up her name. Making it even harder in her situation. And people who hop jobs in Japan are seen as untrustworthy, so even if her last job wasnt found out, she might still have an issue. Honestly if just have a make over, legally change my name etc. To be honest though. Being poor in Japan is probably easier than america in some respects (and worse in others) Housing is *cheap* in japan because of the birth rate. So you never worry you'll be homeless, and they have public housing if that fails. food is a couple dollars for something at least some what healthy. But housing can discriminate against people legally in japan... So that's an issue. Pretty much all discrimination is legal in Japan. Because of the homogeny, they dont have any laws against it in Japan.

@@ribertfranhanreagen9821 Let me show you, how women have it. In even the smallest part of our system. Let's say you want to have a kid, for a man, it's a fairly straightforward system. Doesn't interfere with work or education. Women will have to devote 1 year to being pregnant and sick, then afterwards have to likely be dragged down with responsibility (because child care is not shared) Likely at the begining of her career or education life, which compounds into lost cost over the rest of her life. Then let's take something like shaving. What's the reaction to a man not shaving? minimal! "oh, you wanted to grow a beard" while a woman, will be recoiled from in most circles and would be painted as "dirty" Do you know how much longer it takes to shave a woman for a woman and a man? compound that over the length of her life (where, again... not really optional) She likely spends several years worth of "time lost" JUST ON SHAVING. Time that a man doesn't have to deal with. Then lets compound that with makeup and hair. She has to devote years to that shit (not optional, women who don't look good are discriminated against, because men see them mostly as fuck buddies) Now, let's talk about medicine. If a sick man goes into a doctor and complains about pain, he get's pain meds. If a woman goes into the same doctor, with the same complaints and same symptoms.... she is thought to be crazy, and given antidepresants (there are studies on this, it's wide spread) And you're argument to all of that is "at least I want to fuck girls who post pictures on line" Go sit on a screw and SPIN!

This just seems typical for any entertainment type job these days. Pornstar, actor, musician, you name it. Unless you are the top 1-5%, you are not gonna be rich. Another % makes enough to live comfortable, and then the majority make next to nothing at all. I dunno what to really say, that is just the way it is. There are just way too many pornstars and movies being released and not enough consumers to buy it all. I purchase some of my porn, but only for a select few of my favorite girls. There is absolutely no way I could afford to buy everything I watch. All the "extra work" like twitter, live streams and promoting seems like it is part of the job. If you want to be successful you are going to have to do that, and livestreams for semi popular girls, like fan club stuff that have subscriptions can probably make them more money than even shooting scenes. I question that statistic of USA only having 200 active porn stars, that seems way off.

In Japan by just working in a convenience store or supermarket or McDonald’s you can get pretty good salary and have a comfortable life (normal apartment, food, clothes, traveling). There is only so much content people can consume. They are competing against tons of free content and actresses japan/world wide. The barrier to entry is smaller than ever (relatively cheap equipment, free websites, cost of distribution next to zero). What are they offering, that people don't already have access to? Nobody is paid by how hard, difficult or degrading their work is, but by how much someone needs or wants the result of your work. I don't think this is different (except the stigma) from any other trade, especially the ones that offer digital or abundant goods (art, news, farmers). Social media is where the people are now, where they can find you and you can offer your services. As porn becomes more and more normalized, porn actresses need to become more like regular actresses, celebrities or KZbinrs. But then again, many of them can't live from that either... There are many problems, but the main ones in my opinion are: 1. industry is changing faster than people/companies can/want adapt, 2. too much supply, 3. thinking it is easy money, 4. lack of alternatives (before and after). A good social system could REALLY help with that. Some support to pay rent and getting additional education can go a long way.

Also a lot of the women are probably doing the same thing in their videos that other actresses are doing.I would imagine that if some of them did some outlandish or off the wall things they would definently bring in more viewers.
@yannick50993 жыл бұрын
@@StarMercurian Sure, that would get more viewers. (enough) Paying viewers is another story. They need content that is not easily copied to any video portal. Otherwise it isn't more than an advertisement for you, maybe some $ from ads and the few who buy payed content. In the video, Yuri Komuru really says it: things like live streaming, events, interaction with fans is basically required. Just the last part (actresses are not supposed to do such stuff) is exactly what has changed. Now you have to do it. Companies are not doing it because they don't need to, as long as there are dozens others that are willing replace them for even less money.

Love this video, social issues is definitely interesting to watch. I will say that however in terms of economy that being an adult entertainer still has more odds of being successful than getting a regular job especially in Japan, sure these days its more competitive but isn't that the case for almost every industry? Not to mention a former porn star can still work as an influencer, sex worker or marry someone who's a fan of them. Now imagine working a minimum wage job like McDonalds or some other blue collar job in Japan? pretty sure the hours are long, pay is low and overall its hard too.
@madestman1012 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you hit the nail on the head. The porn star only making 3mill yen a year is probably not doing that many shoots a month. compare that to selling your time to minimum wage at 900yen an hour at a combini or delivery company you have to wonder who is selling their soul more. A lot of Japanese porn stars are working as hostess or call girls and the porn is just supplemental income anyhow as they are making a lot more money doing these jobs. Cock for Cash!

Strange that logically there would become a point in time when all the porn has been made, because whatever you would do after that point would only be a remake of something that someone has already done before. There are limits to what a human body can do, be or endure. Also, all alcohol or tobacco will get you high the same way. Likewise, for a porn addict, the variety is an illusion.
