Except the old way of selling records/CDs was worse. The record label would essentially loan artists the money to make the music, create the artwork, marketing etc, and the artist would need to sell thousands upon thousands of records to break even. It’d be the equivalent of the UFC agreeing to loan the fighters $500,000 to fight for them, and then promising to use that money to market, advertise, and build them a career. Then if the fighter sold enough pay per views then and only then would they start getting paid…

There does need to be an MMA Hall of Fame that's for sure, to celebrate the accomplishments of MMA fighters who competed not just in the UFC, but in all major promotions. Fedor, Cro Cop, Wandy, Mousasi to name but a few, and especially fighters whom the UFC refuses to honor like Frank Shamrock and now Francis Ngannou due to petty personal vendettas from the likes of Dana.

Man Dana is such a greedy scumbag... It's so messed up that he says to the media that "the fighters are independent contractors" and "you don't have to be here if you don't want to be here" when in reality the contract ties you down to the UFC forgoing any opportunity to take the best offer out there from another promoter. Nate Diaz wouldn't have taken a literal piss on the UFC PI if he was truly an independent contractor who was open to other options. I love this sport, and the UFC is by far the best product for it, but I feel almost guilty for consuming the content because of how wrong Dana's business practices are. Hoping this lawsuit goes through and the fighters get ~50% of the revenue that Dana LOVES to brag about after every PPV like the rest of the sports universe does

To me it’s not at all about the UFC falling from it’s perch as the top promotion in the sport, it’s about the athletes who compete in the sport receiving fair compensation for not only what they do to entertain us in the octagon and the ridiculous amount of effort and insane hard work both physically and mentally while preparing for a match, but also the emotional toll of being away from their loved ones for often half the year or more depending on the number of fights they compete in within any given year. Dana doesn’t have to endure ANY of that, yet he makes more from the UFC than the top five earners on the fighter roster combined. I’m not trying to say he hasn’t contributed considerable quantities of cash, cunning and conviction in combination with courage compelling enough to build back from bankruptcy what he has since developed into the premier mixed martial arts organization on the planet. But he no longer owns the company so I don’t understand why he won’t try to secure more fair compensation for the fighters now!

@@hobogardenerben i actually know what his “reason” is an it IS gross. He claims that when fighters make good money they get complacent and avoid competition that could potentially beat them. This is a good and bad situation forsure, other promotions could get top stars and fighters could get paid much better which is good but now we won't have all the top talent in 1 promotion which is better for fans to see whose actually the best in there weight class, and it'll takeaway the best fighting the best. But this is 100% the ufc's fault from taking sponsorships away and fighter's getting super underpaid to be scummy in general

I don't believe that all the top talent in the world is in the UFC. A lot of them yeah but not all. UFC fighters have gone over to other promotions in their prime and some crush it but others don't find undisputed success. Even a great like DJ got KO'd in OneFC which had never happened in the UFC.

@wasteurtime5677 most not all obviously other promotions have top guys, but the point is the ufc has most of the top tier talent, the best fighters are in that promotion it's much deeper than any promotion. And most of the guys who were from the ufc have become Champs in other promotions aswell or are amongst the best fighters in there promotions, some of them tho are washed , but yea other promotions like bellator have some top guys who definitely could compete in the ufc. As for DJ getting ko'd he fought a bantamweight realistically as weight cutting rules for one fc are present that and he's much older now Moraes is definitely a good fighter aswell.

I feel a fighters union is possible but the thing is these fighters don't have the funds to stop fighting for a extended period of time to make the sacrifice that is needed, it's definitely different than when the NBA did it cause all those guys are millionaires. We had 3 African Champs at the same time in the ufc Francis, Izzy, Usman at one point who are all friends you're telling me we couldn't have had the 3 Champs come together and get guys all to join them, all the top guys complain about pay but never do they join up the ufc fears a union they've blacklisted every fighter who's attempted it for a reason. Fighters union is needed just most guys can't make the sacrifice which is definitely understandable in there position.

A fighters union is almost impossible because fighters only care about themselves and the UFC will do everything in their power to stop it from forming. If the fighters form a union are stars, like it happened once back in the day with Anderson, GSP, TJ, Cowboy and others, the UFC will bribe them with higher pay to shut them up and stop them from forming it. If its non-stars? Forget it, the UFC will threaten them to shut it down or they'll cut them from the roster. And then you have selfish fighters like Kelvin Gastelum, Kevin Holland and Derrick Lewis (no disrespect to them) who don't care about this sort of thing and will take any fight irrespective of pay because they're company men. Sadly a fighters union just won't happen. The best possible outcome is to either get the courts involved, or have the law changed/amended. Neither are guaranteed outcomes though.

I think UFC is still gonna be the biggest promotion even if the fighters win the court case. UFC will just need to pay its fighters a lot more to be able to outcompete their rivals and keep fighters on their roster. That will be very good for the fighters and fans. Somebody should sue the UFC for the stupid Reebok/Venum deal as well since it cuts a lot of fighers potential pay

Sucks for UFC, but they are nothing without the fighters, and their parasitic contracts are bad for fighters as well as for fans. UFC's contracts can easily have fighters sitting around doing nothing in the middle of their prime fighting years, when those fighters want desperately to fight, and the fans want to see them fight. The . The UFC is basically telling fighters to fuck their life up if they don't bend the knee to UFC, that ain't right. The only real argument I see for the UFC is that the success would be magnitudes less if it wasn't for their management and promotion, but while the UFC may be the brains behind it all, the fighters are still the heart, lungs, kidneys, livers of the UFC. And ironically it's ONLY the fighters who put their brains on the line for the UFC too.
@tonytooshort

I understand the argument that 'non-competes are good for the league' bc you don't have the top guys all split between different leagues. But there's one big problem with that: the only reason fighters would even think of going elsewhere is because *YOU'RE PAYING THEM SHIT.* Or why is it you think Ja Morant doesn't just go play in China? Why do you think Luka came to the NBA? Why isn't Giannis in the Euro League? Bc they get a HUGE portion of the NBA's profits bc the NBA (rightly so) understands and acknowledges that *THEY ARE THE LEAGUE.* The fact that a certain segment of the UFC 'fan' base has to be explained this like a 4 year old is disgraceful and disgusting. I like Dana. I think he's a great matchmaker and he made UFC what it is today. But to pretend like there isn't a scummy, two faced side to that guy is comical to put it mildly.

@madgavin7568
@madgavin7568 Жыл бұрын
Bad point because to be an MMA fighter is pretty damn expensive as you have to pay for travel and training camps and the price for those adds up into the tens of thousands of dollars, sometimes hundreds of thousands. You don't just pay a $200 annual gym fee membership and you're good to go, you're paying thousands and thousands of dollars just to even prepare to fight. That's not even taking into account taxes which will further eat into their profits. For an entry level UFC fighter, they're paid 12K to show and 12K to win, 25K to show and 25K to win if they got a decent enough contract. And hell even if they get a finish or have a back and forth war, they'd be lucky to get that 50K performance/fight bonus because those usually go to already established stars. So for you to say that 'entry level fighters make good money' is not only flat-out wrong, its damn ignorant. This lawsuit is needed because the UFC is exploitative and ruthless. The boss is greedy and a bully as well.
@steviesavagegs8791
@steviesavagegs8791 Жыл бұрын
@madgavin7568 the entry level ufc fighter makes 10-30k per fight lmao, that's half the average household income of a couple per year, and more importantly this lawsuit is just a waste of money that will result in higher ppv cost for the consumer. All these fighters have contracts, and just because they are shit contracts doesn't mean they aren't legal
@madgavin7568
@madgavin7568 Жыл бұрын
@@steviesavagegs8791 Bro you just proved my point while ignoring everything I said prior about training camps, traveling and taxes. I haven't even mentioned if the fighter has an injury that requires surgery (which happens all the time), that costs even more money to get it fixed. Entry-level UFC fighters are paid chump change. The whole 'oh but they're paid more than me' is an absolutely ignorant excuse. Its just another form of Corporate apologism at the end of the day. The UFC makes enough money as it is with their PPV sales, which are already too damn expensive for what they market to us. Stacked PPV cards are now no longer the rule. The UFC can cut PPV sales, pay fighters more (splitting the revenue) and they'll still earn a lot of money. The promotion is just stingy and the boss is a greedy prick. I'm not paying $80 for a PPV.

Class Action lawsuits don't make money appear out of nowhere, and they cannot force the UFC to increase fighter pay. Even if certain fighters win money for past actions, current fighters will only get paid their market value. You guys seem to think that there are organizations out there willing to pay new fighters 100k+ per fight. Sorry bros, that is just not the reality we live in. The UFC pays the highest on the market, and not a single other organization can currently pay more than they do. Could they pay more for the top stars? of course. Everybody has money for the top stars. But there is no trickle-down effect here. The undercard gets shafted everywhere but the UFC, and that's a harsh truth you people don't want to face. Will we see UFC minimums go up after this lawsuit? Guess what? They've been steadily going up for five years now, and they will continue to do so. And remember, MMA is a babe in the woods compared to other professional sports leagues, and it's also run completely differently as a business. If you want to compare it to something, don't compare it to, say, the NBA. Compare it to a small market team in the NBA, like OKC or Memphis. But instead of having 18 people on the roster, make that 600. Then you'll get a better idea of the economics of it all.

How much money do you honestly think these other promotions have to sign these fighters? So imagine if they signed Derick Lewis, they'd probably pay maybe 20% more than the UFC, they'd have to market this guy, which is going to cost money and I honestly to God don't see waves of fighters going to the pfl to watch a guy like Lewis. The top talent will stay at the UFC because they have the most prestige, visibility, and brand awareness. I'm sure the pfl paying for Francis is going to be a bad financial decision
