Side plank clam shells with resistance bands and one legged glute bridges with a yoga block between my knees. Regular clam shells do absolutely nothing: I can't recruit the glutes at all, but after just a few days of these 2 exercises, my SI joint is feeling MUCH better despite years of pain!

I think I was over stretching. I love yoga, but when I stopped my 25mn per day yoga routine my si joints stopped getting out of whack. Maybe it was too many forward bends and up/down dogs? Not sure, but my lower back and si joints have seemed much more stable since giving up yoga. Do you think the yoga is not beneficial to me? Bummer because I really the feeling of lengthening, loosening my muscles through yoga. I run daily and that seems to cause my si joints no problems.

The first time I showed up at my chiropractor saying I thought my SI was out (my yoga instructors had worked out that as the likely issue), she said typically the only people that have issues with their SI are yoga instructors. I have ehlers danlos syndrome so my tendons and ligaments are lax and allow things to move more than they should. I had nerve pain running through my hips this spring, and clamshells helped with that, but I started building up from nothing to 60 minutes of walking starting end of June/beginning of July (I had been recovering from a broken foot), and even 2 or 3 days a week of walking with a 12# weight vest and she was noticing a difference. My last appointment my hips and SI were off less than she has ever seen them (off as mych as 2" some months, and this month things were barely 1/4" off in my hips/SI area. She has watched me with the weight vest and we worked out that it is helping with posture and that is why I am having less pain even though I have added weight on. @@Elizerinc

In a month I will 60 . I realize that my legs and my lower back is losing strength . Last week , I went snorkeling and it was great but when it was time to get back on the boat using the ladder , I almost didn't make it back on the boat , I had no strength at all . Therefore , I really appreciate your video that can help people like me . Thank you .🙂

Had real bad si joint paint for 1 and a half years. Could not go to work, meets friends or even sit in a chair. It all went away when i had hip artroscopy Two weeks ago. Best surgery i have ever done. Doctor told me i had some of the biggest CAM Bone spurs he had ever seen.

These are great points and very helpful. Difficult point though is that most of us with SI pain also have lumbar issues and even sciatica. I could not do many of these because of the extreme combination pain for quite a while. Would be great to address that scenario. Now had I been doing these before I had the blow-out, probably wouldn't have gone to my extreme or even at all. I do wish I had been braver and begun these type ex much sooner, would be further along now. I am combining these with deep-resting squat you show and full body weight squats because I can now (thank you so much). I suggest adding another move which is to come half way up from the squat and stretch forward to stretch those glutes. I have to use a streight back while doing those and really extend and reach. These give the glutes, SI, hamstrings a nice opened feeling. Not sure how it would have gone while in the worst of my pain (8 out of 10 range) but sure helps now.

@@johnmarken3945 have you tried an SI belt? I used one for a couple of months while slowly starting these exercises and now I don't need it anymore but really helped with symptoms in the beginning

I also stopped stretching the SI region bc the ligaments needed to heal and stretching gave me a temporary good sensation as you describe but over time made it worse

That means that your hamstrings are weak in that position. You have to embrace the cramps. I know it's hard, but go until it starts cramping a little, only to the amount that you can stand, hold it, and let it cramp for a bit, then come out. The cramping will go away as you do it more and get better.

this is timely - I've been working on SI joint stability. I have stopped doing bridges because I have been getting cramps in my upper back (sorta between the shoulder blades) when I bridge, despite also lately doing a lot of work to increase scapula stability. could the anterior tilt be the culprit for this? thanks, Matt!

Doing bridges gives me pain. I have si joint pain but bridges don’t help. Maybe my lower back muscles are very weak.

Hello. What would you say would cause this: if I was to do the last exercise on the incline bench with both legs moving up and down I would get a major clunk in my lower back.

How do you fix these si joints if they are causing iliac pain and tightness? Or is this pain and tightness (both sides )from something else? Thanks:)
@Uprighthealth

You ATM and address the muscles all around your hips. You can't piecemeal things out and blame one discrete thing for all your areas of discomfort. Far more likely you have multiple areas of weakness/stiffness. They certainly affect one another, but it's not a linear relationship. In other words, don't expect fixing one thing will necessarily solve ALL the things.

Doc I had SI Joint pain but bridges have almost fixed it but I also have some other pain just beneath my glute medius on the right side and pain increases significantly after any sort of sexual activity. Is this some kind of muscle spasm or something like that? I'm very active sexually and am looking for your advice on this please.
