Why This Soldier Actually Volunteered For Auschwitz

We guarantee you would never volunteer for this special military assignment, but Witold Pilecki was not like any soldier. In today's insane video we're talking about the crazy brave soldier who volunteered to go undercover inside the Auschwitz concentration camp. Germany was a very dangerous place during World War 2, and the concentration camps were the worst place to be in the entire world. Pilecki did his best to boost prisoner morale during one of the worst times in history and was eventually honored with the highest medal Poland has to offer.

The training I can't help you with, the info, as far as we know it is like any other work camp. That is what they most likely would have know at the time before him, "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Makes You Free) that is what was on the gate leading into the camp, it was a work camp as far as anyone knew, until they realise they were exterminating the Jews.

I have been admiring him since I turned 20, which my parents don't approve of. Inmate 4859 later met the man whose name he was using and the real Serafiński harboured him. Another known Auschwitz inmate, the late Władysław Bartoszewski (Lord rest his soul) used to say: "It's worth to be decent in indecent times" and Pilecki proved it

A bit of misconception here, He volounteered to be caught and be taken to A camp, but He had no way of knowing, which camp it's gonna be.

The reason why the allies couldn't intervene so early in the holocaust was because at the time, the camps were deep into enemy territory. As it was, the allies were fighting as hard as they could to push the Nazis back. There was nothing more they could do but keep fighting until the front reached a camp. Airial assault also wasn't an option. Early in the war, Nazis had near complete air superiority over their conquered territory. And later in the war, the resources of the war effort were focused on campaigns. Not a few thousand Jews deep inside Germany. That's why it took so long to rescue the prisoners from concentration camps.
