I understand threats like this are common on the internet, but let's not be insensitive/ignorant that bot hunting is threatening someone's financial income, and thus can be very real compared to just a pvp gamer chat saying "kys"

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. I myself would normally shrug off this kind of thing as if it was simply talk. I however, would take concern in this hobby of mine if I started to receive death threats, screenshots from foreign countries, and more sent to my personal information. Bare in mind he specifically mentions Thailand and Russia in his video. Those are some of the countries where 'botting' is an actual profession and this kind of hobby could be having an impact financially. It is sad though how what started as a fun little hobby had to come to this.

There is no better way to go about it. None. Zip. Zero. Blizzard does nothing. You report 100 bots and you're lucky to see the "Thanks your report resulted in action" once. We will carry the torch he lit, but be better anonymized in the process.

This is right. As a great bald man once said... all you need to do to prevent botting in your game is stop the bot before it can generate any profit.

What are your solutions to ensure bots can’t exist or they’re instantly banned when being reported? A system that can’t be abused or exploited by others? The two things players can do is report them and don’t buy from them. These people are criminals and criminals will find a way to do these things. It sucks and I denounce it myself, but we can’t just continue to blame Blizzard for everything because imagine someone wants to grief you-reports you and with no investigation you’re banned. They investigate and even announce when they ban bots. Be realistic and do your part to stop it
@SplatastictheRealOne10 күн бұрын
This is why we need the community to band together to stop this stuff from happening, doesn't matter a players stance on Blizzard what should matter and be a point is to stop a problem like the bots, etc in it's tracks to push the devs to do something to the extent that this Game has been a Place and Home for many, it has and still enables literal magic. If you could Propose to someone in game and wind up meeting them irl and to be Married and be able to host not just the IRL stuff but also the same In game as role play, it was moments like that and ones were you could engage with players, that made it feel like you weren't "you" but you were for example "Graknor, Orc Warrior. Slayer of the Traitor Rend Blackhand, Dragonslayer of Onyxia and Nefarian, Godkiller of the Gurubashi, and Kel'thuzad's Downfall" those were pretty much "You" for the game, that magic gets corrupted when we enable Botting,Bot Hosting, or Cheating. all because we want a pointless shortcut to 60, which is payed by the Gold we obtain, or IRL Currency. Madskillzzhc, should be an inspiration for the WoW player to get the message across to the Devs that "This nonsense stops now." The bigger message that definitely should be gone over with them is that a Person who enjoys your game was Threatened IRL in very descriptive ways, by going out of his way to stop what take you guys months to do, course it only lasts so long much like the bans from each wave, but to have that level of passion for the game to want it to be filled with life and not automation I'd join in with him and everyone else to defend what I love. He will not and shant be forgotten. Doesn't matter what profits the bot makers made, it's all undeserved and should be shut down it's nearly equivalent to a drug cartel but processed in 1s and 0s, and minus the drug aspect.

As long as the Wow APIs are open (mostly for addon support), botting will NEVER be stopped. The only way to put an end to it is to kill API access. This will kill addons, but thats the price to pay for a secure game. Almost all new MMOs do not allow API, to avoid this issue (bots, hacks, cheats, etc.)

Blizzard is just lazy .. cant be anything else .. every day i see like 10 new people advertising .. and probably getting banned for it at the end of the day .. but they either get their account reinstated or just eat the cost of creating a new one .. and blizzard is happy to take their money i guess .... if they didn't want these advertisiers in the game they could put global chat behind progression or some kind of authentication or lifetime of an account .. i mean someone who has had the account for 3 years will not do this and risk everything he worked on. (and the Bot accounts are very similar .. there would be not bot if it wasn't profitable.)
@jamaldavis248010 күн бұрын
It isn't laziness. It is a combination of greed and automation. Greed lead to automation. The automation can't be good because if it is good it allows the opposition to AB test that automation for work around. So the bans have to happen in waves to avoid that. However, it doesn't happen often enough to prevent the botters from making a profit. Thus they continue... and at this point because of that greed and how big of an issue this has become I kind of feel it was designed that way so that they make additional profit off the bots.
@Eyevou10 күн бұрын
People will indeed do this on old accounts. It's a virtual good that they don't actually own. If they want to see if they can make money doing it they wholeheartedly would risk it.

This is why I take such issue with the Classic community, when they were buying gold and running so many GDKPs they opened the door to the botters and gave them so much more power. This is also why I am very pro WoW token despite having never bought one myself as it takes power away from the criminals and the only way to take power from those that illegally provide a good or service is to provide a legal alternative. I don't know how anyone in their right mind can say that buying gold is morally better than buying a WoW token, as while none of us have any fondness for Blizzard as a company anymore they are still legal and the lesser evil.

I am not a WoW player but I play other games where players can sell services; services like GDKP's aren't the problem, its the people doing RMT. I understand that many may feel that GDKP's provides the incentive for people to buy gold but this logic can be levied against any other player service where gold is the cost. The reason why gold farmers and by proxy the WoW tokens exist is because the players know that it is a better use of their time to buy these services than to play the game, this is likely because there are too few or no consequences for doing so. Banning all player driven services like level boosting also won't stop bots or gold farmers because generating gold is still valuable to players through game systems like class training, vendors, and the auction house. Blizzard knows that limiting gold is healthy to keep players engaging with the game and each other through selling services in the game's economy but is now also selling gold through tokens and boosts in the shop to players who want to bypass these services and gold restrictions too. All the gold farmers need to do is make their gold cheaper than the gold Blizzard is selling to stay profitable, and Blizzard can profit off of the players who are willing to spend more without ever fixing the RMT problem. Banning player services will never change the market or player behavior unless you shift player priority away from making gold, but since Blizzard makes money off of it I doubt that this will change unless they are forced to. I only see that happening if the botting and gold sellers get so bad that players stop playing. While I find that unlikely, if more stories like what happened to Madskillzzhc starts happening to other players I think this will force Blizzard to step in.
@jamaldavis248010 күн бұрын
@@kyliostyrson9493 This I honestly cannot understand how people don't see the actual issue... probably cause it is harder to deal with... and well you you ban those services they can pretend like the actual issue doesn't exist.

Even moreso when acting on those threats would end up negatively impacting your business. If people start dying because they were anti-bot. Not only does the gaming comping now have to take it seriously, The general populace of the gaming community would become more aware and sensitive to it. As it is one thing to go buy gold a game, and another to do so knowing you buying that gold is killing people in real life. I need to go watch his full video, but from what you have put in your own. Honestly, if they do not know if the providing of that information is part of the bitter group or not.
