Another reason is if WW3 breaks out South Africa might be one of the safest places to be. As far as I know it has nothing that would be a military target to any major nuclear armed nation if such a war broke out. It has plenty of land and good climate where you could grow all your own food and farmland products without relying on anyone else. Its a nation that could be totally self sufficient. So I think as the northern hemisphere gets less and less safe and less and less stable. People are looking to places like south africa as permanent places to move to.

Interesting video. Staying or leaving is very personal topic, for some people it is best to leave, for others best to stay. "Thousands of South Africans are moving back home after living abroad", I find that hard to believe. Why? Move back to what, for what? I have met A LOT of South Africans in Australia, but don't know of a single one that has moved back, and can't see why they would. You are 100% correct, there are problems everywhere, - cost of living for sure - mostly caused by the leftist governments in the world now, all drunk on climate koolaid. Housing in particular is very expensive - especially in Australia. Youth crime is an issue, nothing what we are use to in South Africa, but you can't ignore it. Still, after almost 20 years out of SA and not having to worry about my kids finding work, getting hijacked, robbed, raped or murdered - I wouldn't trade that for cheap housing, or cheap anything. I love SA and dearly miss it, especially friends and family. I hope with everything in me that it will improve, even to the point where I regret leaving SA, but that hasn't happened yet and I honestly can't see how that will happen in my lifetime. That is where it is really personal, there is no right or wrong answer - you can only decide for yourself.

That would be very problematic because it would mean they were unwilling to stay here and fight to make things work. GNU exists today because a large number of black voters decided to do something about the situation here in the country. What they did was vote against the ANC. So those who are coming back because of that are the ones who aren't invested in the well-being of SA but simply see an opportunity to come back and exploit what they believe are now favourable conditions for themselves. Quite right - SA never leaves one's heart. I moved to the UK 34 years ago with my young family and have been fortunate in building a career that enabled me to live in a large detached home and garden in green Surrey for the last 22 years, plus own a beautiful holiday cottage. Over this time both the UK and Europe have worsened with an increasing loss of their prior national cultures and becoming infested with woke thinking that is eating them from the inside out. Who knows how this will play out over time, plus the mad left Labour party currently in power. Nonetheless, hindsight still confirms it as the right decision for us, though I would be highly tempted to retire in SA if it was practical (my kids are all in the UK) and the SA tax regime wasn't so keen on my overseas wealth....so I just visit regularly and hope that partnership politics at every level will create a stronger SA future

South Africa is like a honeypot. The moment things get hard overseas, people move back because they remember the country of their youth, family, friends, culture etc. The fact is that once you've resettled in South Africa, you realise that it is at least twice as difficult leaving as it was the first time. Has crime changed? Has there been a lof of progress made at Eskom/Municipal water boards/schooling system? Has job opportunities improved? Is BEE still a main criteria for being selected for an interview? The answer is no. So the reasons you cited for leaving in the first place are all still valid. I visited for the first time in 5 years. Inflation didnt just affect the USA, UK, EU etc. Prices in SA have doubled and in some cases trippled in 5 years, so to say people are moving back because of affordability is utter nonsense. In 2019 Spur charged R20 for breakfast, 2024 R60. 2019 a liter of petrol cost R15, 2024 R25. Not too long ago, a double cab bakkie was R500K, now over R1M. It was jarring to see the amount of small cars on the roads in SA. In most of these other countries, finding a job is not a problem if you are willing to work. In South Africa that is simply not the case. The UK is not doing well, so I suspect a lot of the returns are from there, but I'd be interested to know how many of those eventually end up leaving again. Don't get me wrong, South Africa is a beautiful country, and I will always long to be back with friends and family and shared culture, but I moved to secure a better future for my kids.

@afourie46254 ай бұрын
This is probably the biggest load of nonsense anyone has ever spoken! Lived in UK (Edinburgh) for 5 years and was ridiculously expensive from groceries, rent, insurance, vehicle, tuition…it’s absolutely madness. Now living in Australia (Brisbane) which is similar to the UK in prices but it is luckily a bit cheaper in certain aspects and my mental health is better as there is no miserable weather, miserable and rude people and not to mention the political situation…worse than South Africa’s issues imo. UK is turning into a shithole glad I got out. If you want northern hemisphere rather go to mainland Europe. Back to the topic, South Africa is very affordable compared to Australia and the UK no comparison not to mention the quality of food in both countries does not match that of South Africa. I have a newfound respect for farmers in South Africa! Not just the food but everything is cheaper, inflation and the high standard of living in western countries is what is killing them ironically.

@@afourie4625 I don't think I was comparing UK to Australia so don't know how relevant your response is. It's impressive how you managed to miss the entire point of my comment. I *clearly* compared the UK and South Africa, I mentioned Australia to draw inferences but I guess reading between the lines isn't your strong suit. I mentioned Australia to draw inferences about the cost of living in different countries, but since you seem to have overlooked that, let me break it down for you: I lived in SA for 25 years and the UK for 5. Sure, you earn more in the UK, but you spend way more too-on rent, groceries, insurance, and tuition. So yeah, the higher salary is pretty much irrelevant when the cost of living wipes it out. Maybe next time, try actually reading what someone says before you type. Btw - if you pay less for groceries (which in my 5 years there is not true) then you probably buying the cheapest there is and by that means it’s even a stretch. Uk is in a severe cost of living crisis hence I left but you somehow cracked it. Don’t like posting negative comments but don’t spread false information please!

I was not one that spoke overly crritically of SA although i did speak honestly whilst hoping for positive development. Having just returned from SA i can safely say that i cannot see an SA that will ever meet my standard and to which I will return. In fairness my time was spent in Gauteng and KZN, and Cape Town would probably have portrayed thing's differently. Without getting too political or offensive, the full failure of BEE and the void left by skilled and trained persons was on full display. Apart from 1 outing to an establishment aimed at foreigners, customer service completely lacking sadly, and i mean horrendous, noone competent and noone cared. The South African's i encountered in every day customer service positions wouldn't know customer service if it slapped them in the face. Then there's the rest.......the poor roads, massively deteriorated driver behaviour (no indicators/red lights at will/no seat belts/mobile phone use/speeding etc), beggers, everyone wanting money/tips at every turn (borderline harassment), general safety issues and hyper vigilance required to get from A to B, expensive in many respects, plus plus plus. 1 month ago i was speaking of setting up for retirement in SA, 2 days ago i couldn't get out quick enough and vowed never to return. The decline i saw in the 5 years since last there was stark, and even though Cape Town likely much better than what i experienced, the sad thing is its still South Africa and the rot will surely spread. Some may be willing to accept mediocrity in everyday life, i'm not one of them. I'll be happy to put my tail between my legs and eat humble pie if things change for the better and i end up revisiting my plan of retirement in SA.

The only two cases of genocide in SA where when the English genoc*ded the Afrikaners in the Boer war in concentration camps and when Shaka Zulu committed genocide, Zulu armies not only aimed to defeat their enemies, they aimed to totally destroy them. Those who were exterminated included prisoners of war, women, children and even dogs. Estimates of the death toll range from 1 million to 2 million.

I currently work abroad and make good money but I dont plan at all to stay here, I plan on moving back to South Africa because there is just no community like south Africa the diverse culture there is none like it the other countries don't have that it's abit boring and frustrating

Orania is growing very fast and has seen migrants returning from Australia especially... the bigger Orania grows the bigger that trend would become... for SA in general not much has changed infact crime rates went up!!!

@@Marysmmiiith Who said Orania is a country? Nobody!!! It's a autonomous region that governs it's own local affairs and municipality!!! I've been there 2 months ago didn't notice people having fear infact people are happy and crime free, no burglar bars, trash everywhere etc and no unemployment... they have a collage now aswell with a plan for a university, place is exploding with development!!! Kids out and about doesn't feel like SA, more like Japan so unreal... they can't keep up with the demand and would now massively invest in housing, Medicare and education just imagine their population doubled in the last 5 years, there's construction sites everywhere... the Northern Cape just fully recognized their etho autonomous territory and would now file application for them joining the Traditional Council of SA which they already have very good relationships with!!!

@@Marysmmiiith by the way there's peo0le within the ANC supporting them like Mbeki and others, Even Zuma said they have a full right to exists just like other tribal lands!! Orania is not polically governed by any party, thus they make friends across any pond!!! It's what they are doing!!! And to follow the law!!! SA law and international law in terms of self determination!!! I don't think they want to be a country either, like the Zulu monarchy and 18 other tribal homelands..

If you want to immigrate to Australia, don't even think of doing it if you do not have at least R 20 000 000 in your pocket, you will not be able to buy a house for under R 5 000 000 property in Australia is 12 rand for every dollar. USA is 19 rand for every dollar. You don't just walk into a job, because they will allways give their own first choice to employ. You have to be able to afford 12 months to live there without a job, paying dollars with your rands, living there and not earning dollars is very scary, and you will jump through hoops, and they don't braai, they have barbies.😅

I’ve got a few clients who are expats living in Australia and they say it’s dam expensive. I immigrated to the UK in 2020 I’m thinking of going to back to SA (Cape Town) given the state of the UK now and the costs increasing. I can probably buy a house cash with the pounds I have so it’s worth exploring. Every country has their problems it’s just which problems you ok living with.

I saw a kid walking into a restaurant in Edinburgh Scotland. He had a Blue Bulls jersey on and as our group made a fuss over him, we discovered he can't speak Afrikaans and was German.. my heart broke, as a beautiful Afrikaans girl sat crying at hearing her mother tongue in such an unexpected location.. ons mis julle.. kom terug,kinders van Afrika,al kuier julle net. Bring julle Duitsers en dinge saam.

It's your home, that's the only reason. Poor standard of living but it's home. In Europe nobody would move to South Africa.

Yeah that cultural richness, power and guaranteed clean water and the lack of rampant crime and real endemic political corruption is so overrated.

Well said, wise words. Personally I was born in SA and lived there for 40 years. I was offered a job in the UK in 1990 and moved over with my family. My kids have grown up here and now my wife and I have the privilege of helping look after 8 grandchildren. BUT, my wife and I are desperately homesick, not to mention absolutely fed up with long cold and wet winters. Yes, you definitely learn a lot when you travel, especially if you work in different parts of the world like I did. Life is certainly different here, you cannot help comparing everything to SA. When we go home to visit family we have noticed the changes over the years, but we have been here long enough to know this is not the same England we moved to. I can truly say, financial gain is useful, but you mental health and well-being is even more important. Be careful friends, do your homework and then make your decision. For us it is either SA or Cyprus, both are now home to us. God Bless
