The $7500 EV rebate is a HUGE reason to chose the Model Y over the Ioniq 5.
@dfrench444
@dfrench444 Жыл бұрын
Regardless of your income, the Ioniq 5 as of until at least Feb 28 qualifies for a $7500 rebate if you lease it which for some people may actually be better than purchase rebate which you have to qualify for based upon income. What I believe one can do is "lease it" with a huge $20000 up front payment to save a huge amount on interests costs, capture the $7500 savings and then just pay off the lease early and buy the car outright from Hyundai or whoever the lease company happens to be. People are doing this with their EVs that are now directly eligible for $7500 tax credit but are eligible via a lease. More steps to go through but it probably adds up to a guaranteed $6500 plus rebate after taking into account additional fees associated with leases which is great considering the free miles as well.

Couldnt agree more! Tesla price cut on Y and Federal tax credit makes it total game changer! Till last year Ioniq 5 was selling for 55K for SEL trim, now going for 45K Thanks Elon Musk

Hyundai is discounting $7500 to make up for lack of rebate. I had a Model 3 for 4 years and loved it, but have had an Ioniq 5 for 3 months now and loving it too.

As a new Ioniq 5 owner who used HDA 2, and that was clutch on the road trip. I felt like it made good choices when situations were not optimal for a lane change, and it was easy to pass control back and forth between me and the car.

My new Ioniq 5 Limited factory order will finally come through this month. When Tesla dropped the price on the MY I gave it a serious consideration. After much deep research, I'm sticking with the Ionic 5 even though it will cost more. The key reasons: superior fit and finish, Apple Car Play, quite ride, ride quality, Safety features and styling. Fast charging is also a factor as we go on multi-state road trips in the PMW. We currently have a Toyota Camry Hybrid XLE and have been spoiled by Toyota quality and the above features listed for the Ioniq 5. I think I would feel dissatisfied with the day to day experience of riding around in a "solid dentist chair!"

Hyundai dealer network are not up to speed on EV diagnostics or repair. Yes they are experienced in repairing ICE cars, but with EV's service is extremely lacking. My 2023 Ioniq 5 delivered late Oct, 2022. Test drove it wow great car, but I did not check Fast DC charging. End of October I thought I would see how well DC charging worked, not go, not on any station the car always stopped the charge. Dealer has had it 4 times, replaced CCS socket wiring harness, no change. At least now I have a service Ioniq 5 loaner and the car is sitting at the dealer. There last attempt was Friday Feb 24th, they pulled another report (when DC Fast charging was attempted) and sent to Hyundai Corporate to diagnose. Not terribly confident they even understand the tech they built or have the service tools for proper diagnostics of the charging, battery or drive train. Tesla started with EV's, they know the product inside and out, the software is sophisticated beyond anything that other mfgs have, so technical issues will likely be dealt with quicker. Last point is parts availability, Hyundai lunched the product without North American parts, my back order on the CCS Socket wiring harness was 8 weeks and another 4 weeks to get it changed, although that did not fix the issue.

I have test driven both and was leaning towards hyundai but after test driving both cars its not even close. Tesla model y' s technology and instant speed is just different than all the other ev's except lucid and Porsche and those are double the price of a model y. The ioniq 5's technology is not comparable. AWD vs RWD is not similar, come on. Ioniq 5 feels like a fast camry and the model y Long Rnge feels like a sport car...not the same. NO battery pre-conditioning lol good luck with your 15 minute 80 percent charging...it takes 15 minutes just to connect to the system. Trying to compare a Hyundai to a Tesla is like comparing Lebron to John Wall.

I just bought a Hyundai Ioniq5 limited RWD. Great dealer experience from 3 different dealerships. Like the adds it came with, pick the 1 that had all the adds I wanted , in the interior and exterior color desired we wanted. For my wife she prefers the ride of the Ioniq5 and the screens, controls on stalks, the paddle shifts for Regen and most of all HUD. I agree with her on all above and the Tesla has a spartan interior and the Y looks like a bar of soap esp in white and we keep cars for a decade on average.

My Ioniq 5 (Limited Long range AWD equivalent here in Canada), drives like no other, the 2023 suspension has changed as I am driving the 2022 Ioniq 5, big difference in ride quality, so 2023 they have even improved it more. I would love to keep it, I have had the Kia Soul EV 2019 another Hyundai based product (really got good trade in value on this car for the Ioniq 5), just excellent, my 2020 Kia Soul EV Limited another perfect product) so really upset that my Ioniq 5 has issues as it is a dream to drive!

With the Ioniq, apparently you can get $7500 off on a lease, then just buy out the car after making your first month's payment, essentially still getting the credit--but immediately. I'm on the fence right now, with a Model Y that's getting delivered this coming Saturday... oof my brain hurts. Thanks for the video.

*If* you can find a good CCS… Where I live and travel there is a single fast charger. At an airport… Otherwise, 62kW is the fastest charger on routes I travel. For Tesla, 250kW. No comparison. Uptime is also not a question. Imagine saying “my car fuels faster then yours… but the stations are few and far between and often out of service…” 😬

With the explosion of non Tesla EVs, even areas with plenty of CCS chargers are going to get overwhelmed. Real world versus theoretical charging. So cool the Ioniq5 can charge that fast - but the Tesla network is very valuable, even as they open it up (slowly) to non Tesla EVs

I just switched from Hi5 to MyP. Which is better styling than reg Y. Its just that much better. I was super frustrated with lack of autolock. Sounds trivial but not. Both great cars. Tesla tech is truly next level. Buying experience of Tesla is superior. I dont agree with dentist chair analogy with MyP. Charging network, i dont think theres much to debate there.

My points for Ioniq5 vs TMY: - has HUD (very useful, don't need to turn head around to check speed, navigation, etc.) - screen behind wheel - adjustable headrest - much softer suspension, pleasant relaxing ride - better sound isolation (also adds to relaxing mood) - parking sensors - bird eye view - V2L - for me very important, allows to charge electric grill directly from the car :) - physical buttons TMY is just too cheap inside, really. It is fast and fun, but really, acceleration from Ioniq5 is great enough.

Do you have extended warranty recommendations when buying a MYLR - I’m considering trading in my Hi5 Limited for one, it comes with 10yr/100k coverage and the Tesla seems to have a very limited warranty at 50k. I know Dave is like me and will likely never see a warranty expire based changing vehicles frequently 😊. Perhaps warranty coverage / service expectations deserves a full episode?

My Ioniq 5 shopping experience was so bad, across multiple dealers. They treated me like a piece of crap at both dealers I was at late stage with. Tesla was the most painless car buying experience I've ever been through - that was ENORMOUS - and I love my Model Y.

No matter how good the Ioniq 5 is vs Tesla. In Canada it will take a year plus to get one as for a Tesla model it take 1-2 months if not sooner. I ordered an EV6 and have been waiting over a year for it and have had no updates as to why the wait. Nothing!!!
@Krahamus

It's the opposite where i live, I'm waiting for the Tesla factory to be built since talks are happening sometime this year to start, because prices are astronomical if you import one, to get Ioniq 5 and ev6 i was told average wait time is 2 moths, they car companies should start building factories to help with price and how fast you get product but ofc problem is with governments sometimes.

How to believe Tesla Y being without radar and parking sensors? Yes there is Vision AI but some customers showed the problem during poor visibility(bad weather, night etc..), even phantom breaking is caused most probably the radar is not used... Then I really like Android Auto, I really need 360view, so where is ?

Here in the Nordics the delivery time is an issue. I got my Model Y from stock in less than 24 hours from ordering but Ioniq 5 has more than an year waiting period. We all want different things from our car and for me the dealbreaker was acceleration. Ionic 5 wasn't even on my short list because of that.

I was really surprised when I looked in detail at the Ioniq5 engine specs. You are right. The Tesla has more power and torque - so much more I’m surprised it’s not talked about in these reviews more often. Also availability. Hyundai took too long to get my the Ioniq5 I ordered & now I’ll (happily) drive a MY Perf. No OTA for the Hyundai until next year?

I think there was a lot of fair points made in this video, I liked the format. I agree from a financial and practicality perspective, model Y is probably the smarter pick. Between value held, recent price cuts, tax incentive for those that qualify, etc, it's a no brainer. But I'd take that Ioniq 5 in this match up every day of the week. I love how it looks and feels. And I love what Tesla has done with tech, but I just don't love Tesla, they remind me too much of Apple. They're everywhere now, they don't make any statement. I don't like the interior or exterior design. I don't like how they do software, I believe there IS a thing of too much connectedness when it comes to privacy, telemetry, saved user data, and control of your car that you own and posses. That said, for my family, with young kids, I want something bigger than a hatch and there isn't a lot in that segment on the EV market yet and what there is, is just too expensive for what it does for my family today.

Parking sensors have been removed from the model Y. For me it was THE reason to cancel the order of a model Y. I don't believe the blind spot problem can be solved as long as parking sensors don' return. FSD is not a solution, isn't relevant anyway outside the US/Canada.

Why pay for enhanced auto pilot now that half of the functions have been disabled because model Y does nor have any parking sensors any more. As I said: it was the very reason to look for other cars of 60.000 that do (and should) have parking sensors and to reconsider the Ioniq5 or 6.

Considering this dropped after 23's were out, out of spec dave is out of date on the 23 ioniq. As far as dealers in WI, well, there was no option to lease a tesla here, so they were out right out of the gates. (ioniq 5 has $7500 rebate from manufacturer right now) Also, dealer had ability to take a trade. Lastly, I'll never have to worry about Elon wrecking the value of my car, whether it be by right wing antics or dumping the price. lol

I own, love, and hate both. Quite a few corrections/additions I'd make around safety, charging, and convenience (autopilot/hda2...openpilot). tldr; Tesla narrowly wins on charging (miles/minute) if you can operate in the bottom of the pack and taking into account the greater range, wins on safety (structural integrity, active safety, etc.), wins on driving assist out of the box (but can't use OpenPilot...yet). Ioniq 5 is a gorgeous, quiet, soft riding vehicle with a horrendous ownership experience. Model Y is an amazing ownership experience with some serious ride quality flaws that are partially mitigated in the 2023 model year.

The thing with having a Tesla is you know it's going to last you a long time because it's been proven. We don't know how reliable an Ioniq 5 and its parts will be over a 10 year time period because its fairly new. I've seen a lot of Ioniq 5 on the side of the road being towed so just keep that in mind that it might have better performance suspension and more safety and tech features but how reliable is it over time?

The Tesla Y has much more storage space, but the ride and seat comfort are totally horrible. The software on Tesla is superior, but the fact that you are forced into one pedal driving is a deal killer.
