“Twilight’s” Alice Cullen, born Mary Alice Brandon, has one of the most interesting backstories of any of the Cullen family. The movies highlight the importance of Alice’s visions-- especially with the battle scene in “Breaking Dawn Part 2”-- but there’s still so much left unsaid about the psychic vampire’s human beginnings. For one, she had a terrible father who had her thrown in an asylum, where she lost her memories before finally meeting Jasper Hale. She was also able to adopt that “vegetarian” vamp lifestyle on her own, because she knew the Cullens were in her future. Someone this impressive should definitely have her own movie-- and not just “The Mary Alice Brandon File” short-film, even though it’s pretty incredible.
Why Alice’s story never made it into the movies is mostly to do with time constraints and hiring all those extra actors, but there’s also a reason that makes sense to the story-- Alice can’t really remember her life as a human, so how would she be able to tell everyone about her deep, dark past? Still, a flashback of Alice's strange beginnings would have highlighted her incredible strength, and also her bond with Edward. Thankfully, Stephenie Meyer’s “Midnight Sun” gives us a deeper look at this bond and how much Edward Cullen really knew about Bella Swan and their future thanks to Alice. Let’s explore Alice’s tragic history and discuss how we might’ve known her better if her backstory had been a bigger part of the hit movie franchise.

Honestly I never found Edward, Jacob, or Bella interesting. I was most interested in the cullens, I kind of wish they made a prequel about the cullens like their backstories, how they moved from place to place, and how they made a treaty with the wolves. (I know it explains the Wolf story but I want more detail, it couldn’t have been that simple to get along.)

I really wish they’d gone more into everyone’s backstory. It’s why the second half of breaking dawn is my favorite. So many interesting characters from different experiences. Heck, give me a spin off of the Egyptians or the Irish, maybe even the Denali coven. More about the tension between the Romanians and the Volturi.

I believe (because I am from Romania) that The problem between The Romanian vampires and The Volturi was because The history says that vampires are originally from Transilvania (România) you know... Vlad Țepes... Dracula... And I think there were some fights for power between them... Just my opinion.

afaik, the story from the book and movie is base from bella’s perspective so in order for the backstories to visualize it has to be mention to bella narratively. I would consider Alice as top 1, and only Bella top 2. Alice is the most intriguing vampire without the backstory.

The depth of these characters lives would be incredible for twilight fans. I would love to see a series of films, that focused solely on the vampire lives. They could call it “THE CULLEN CHRONICLES”, and give insight to the characters and how they all came together as a sort of unique family. I think viewers and fans would absolutely love this and would reprise their enthusiasm of the genre. Please consider this and give the twilight fans another dose of our beloved characters!

Actually the reason Alice’s backstory wasn’t in the films is that the backstory was in the Twilight Official Guide that came out after the films had wrapped.

But they completely kicked everything about her past. From the fact that James knew her in her human life to her discovering this. They give some sort of recognition to almost everyone but her. Rose got a flashback, as did Edward and Jasper. Emmett, Esme and Carlisle all got some mention or nod to their history. She got nothing. A simple flashback of James attempting to kill her, the old vampire getting her first, and him killing the old vamp would have done fine... or even a mention like in the first book.

I think since Callens family was able to survive, they do deserve a movie about their back stories and how did they meet. It would be amazing to see and learn, how in a world of vampires, they manage to stay attached to their humanity. Maybe, it would be a good example-reminder also to us. How to stay humans above all. Wow they should have made the whole series into a tv show instead like they did the vampire diaries . That way they could have gotten all the Cullen's background story and would have given them more film time . I would have so loved seeing Alice's background story she was one of my fave characters anyways lol . 😊

They do talk in the books about how Edward and Alice have this special bond and work together all the time. They’re best friends. Then when Bella comes along Alice works to include Bella in their duet to make it a trio. She also displays disappointments in some of Edwards “stupid” choices. Like the choice to leave Bella in the second book when Alice knows that it will not turn out well for either of them or their mental health. The books do touch on Alice’s family having her institutionalized. But the back story of how she’s turned and by whom, I think would have been a good thing to include. In my opinion Rosalie’s story is far more disturbing than Alice’s. Even with the possibility that Alice’s dad had her mom killed so that he could be with his new lover (whom he married six months later. ) I think they could have cut her back story down to a couple of minutes and still included it in one of the movies. If they’d included it in the fourth movie when Bella is pregnant, then it would have made a lot more sense to the plot overall, and why she chooses to leave the Cullen family for a little while in the last movie.

I understood that there was a competition for writers/directors to create 7 short stories based on Stephanie Meyer's characters. This was after the movies and books were made. That is why none of it is in the movies. The short film is an extension of them. I'm not sure if Stephanie Meyer was there with Kailey and Samantha Spear while writing, I thought she was credited for the use of her characters.
