Great win but vehicle sales are tanking hard. Biden should make an executive order banning corporate gifts, stock buybacks and stock bonuses. Go after CEO pay hikes by making a percentage of raises go back to all employees as a bonus for companies making over certain review a year. $10m Revenue 25% back to employees $25m Revenue 50% back to employees $50m Revenue 75% back to employees $100m Revenue 90% back to employees

If someone would wake them up to the benefits of the union,there'd be more that would join. Lots of states have what they call right to work laws,which sound good by its name,but is actually against workers . A more apt name would be right to fire people without reason or cause. Unions put an end to that.

I'm from Flint,Michigan and worked at Fisher Body and Chevy Truck & Bus in the early 70s. When Ronald Reagan sold us out and broke the unions. It was terrible for Michigan! I'm very happy to see the union becoming strong again. Big companies will not do the right thing if you settle for what crumbs the give you while they profit more and more from your hard work. Union has to stick together to get respect and results. I never met Michael Moore but was told he lived down the street from my mother while I was in the Navy. I came back to Flint to see the factories shutting down and even leveled later and it broke my heart. We had it good when the union was strong and the state depended on union workers.

Big companies may not do the right thing unless forced to; but their executives sure are great at PR: articulate, well-dressed, great style sense, politely spoken, class (well, superficially). I'm sure you remember the old marketing term "The Clothes Make The Man" (ok, older than the 80s, but even so). The middle aged and elderly of 40 years ago - Reagan Voters (at least in the small towns without a lot of factories) - put too much faith in the image, not the content.

@@carloscarlos7044 The AFL-CIO representing 60 different unions and 12 million workers has. But I get why others would withhold it, I don't expect working class people to cave to politicking especially after the situation with the rail workers. I was hesitant of Joe every step of the way as he gave his full throated bipartisan support to Reagan every step of the way from the house while Reagan destroyed the middle class. But that hesitancy hasn't stopped me from seeing that he's on the right direction far more days than he isn't now. Seems like he's either learned for the better since then, or the electorate is reverting to more of a pre Reagan timeframe and he's adapting. Either is acceptable.

@@cowarddonnie-ji5yz Like with the auto workers strike, much of the raises are just from keeping pace with inflation over the years. Labor has been outpaced by inflation every year since Reagan, by a lot. Labor is the only entity in the market that's forced to beg and bargain to keep up with inflation while every other participant just automatically upcharges it. Having a strong union is having an advocate to look at the books and authoritatively call nonsense on the typical bs reasons to avoid raises. Individual workers deserve it regardless of performance, it's inflation, everything other than that is demoting them every year and they shouldn't have to bargain for it in secrecy and against union busting tactics from every business owner wanting to run their own private little dictatorships. Think of it like a school of fish, and the repercussions of not forming that school of fish are just as dire.
@micheleconner5083

Labor unions are what made the middle class. Then repuklicans saw how unions were helping workers get ahead,and (Reagan) set out to do away with all unions. Anyone who grows up in a family with union workers knows how beneficial they are in helping the workers. Better pay,better healthcare,job protections. That's why I can't understand the people in the south being anti union. Then I look at the political leaning, and fully understand. Non-union places look out for themselves,not the workers!

I worked for both a community college and a for-profit college. Full-time. There was a real stark difference between the two in that the community college had a union and the for-profit college did not. The community college union was extremely helpful in maintaining the status quo and keeping our salaries and benefits as competitive as possible with other community college districts. They even supplemented my healthcare after I retired. I also had fringe benefits where I got $300 per month and put that in a TSA. Every two years during contract negotiations it was a tug-of-war, but eventually, the union would prevail. At the for-profit college someone did try to start a union, and he was quietly terminated, although they stated his exodus was due to personal issues. It's interesting to note how people in top administration at both schools are very dismissive of individuals who are just simply trying to make a living. I am fortunate and thankful for the union that supported me throughout my 33 year career.

I spent years working at a company where the CEO didn’t like unions; however, that being said, he put his money where his mouth was because he said the one way to stop unionization, all you ha$ to do was pay a livable wage, generous healthcare insurance, paid time off, sick time, short & long term disability, reimbursement of books & tuition as long as you passed your classes (required bringing in transcripts proving you passed), stock investment but employees didn’t pay into the stock shares, the company paid for it. There were many others. This man worked hard to do right by his employees. It’s a shame corporate America stopped caring.

It is a risk-reward situation clearly but it's almost as if we're being penalized for having the initiative to go it on our own. Not every business founder is a multi-millionaire. I guess what I'm getting at is that this should be a universal health care and benefit situation. Again I do not fault the auto workers.
