2020 was a VERY tempting year for upgrading, but I have decided to stick with my Lumix G80, and selection of vintage lenses until I know that camera inside out. I like the challenge of helping a camera punch above its weight. And if 4K wasn’t an industry distraction, I would say the C100 is one of the great cinema cameras in its class still - shot some of my best work on it. You simply must do a video on the XL-1. The memories!
@MarkHoltze3 жыл бұрын
@@forewarnedfilm very tempting...C100 is perfect for youtube now, I've upraised some stuff to 4k with it, but carefully so. XLR, battery endurance, form factor, AF just makes it hard to part with at this point. Colour are nice too, all on camera and top down stuff is shot with it. XL-1 for sure, i tend to seed future videos in my current videos just as a subtle serial narrative ;)

@@MarkHoltze Couldn’t agree more about the C100. Here’s a little sci-fi short I shot with that camera. It’s Doctor Who-based, but you won’t hold that against me, will you? Hey wait - come back!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/goCaipxul8lsa7c
@HoggetBlanker3 жыл бұрын
A few years ago a KZbinr made a video about how cameras have reached a point where all needs are met and that the only thing we can expect from that point on is more bells and whistles. It's not that the evolution in technology is bad in any way, but the only logical reason to upgrade is if the gear is holding you back. So that's my metric. It certainly helps to mitigate gear lust for the newer stuff, but now I find myself pining for quality older gear as they become more affordable :P

Still occasionally using my Canon 550D - that camera that opened up full manual control filmmaking to the masses and actually made the "film look" achievable! The A7SII and Original Mavic Pro was like the ultimate combo only a few years back. I desperately wanted it for the longest time, and only ended up going down the GH5 route due to more useful features for my needs.
@MarkHoltze3 жыл бұрын
GH5 was a smarter choice for sure, I needed to match the other A7sii's in the fashion shoot so it wasn't an option, the fact it's ff wasn't important to me until i started shooting vintage glass. Now it's just nice the lenses are 1:1 with no crop or loss of light factor, but other than that, MFT or super 35 all day long.
@PhaseDriveVlogs3 жыл бұрын
@@MarkHoltze Super 35 size is the sweet spot for me. I use all my vintage (Pentax K) glass with a focal reducer on the GH5 and it gives me around that equivalent sensor size/FOV. That combo is very versatile and gives rather film-like results.

All i know are the Panasonic GH5 and BMPCC 4K, I am mostly a small KZbinr but i am making video work for people. Or is 1080p60 good enough? If so, which cameras?, again i do mostly shoot and export at 60fps. I want is to be able to have good bokeh (but dont need full frame), have more control over colors, overall just far sharper and detailed video and decent low light.

These are the main reasons why I am thinking of an upgrade to a never one like the a7s2 or r2 but those are still too expensive considering how old they are, they are in the same price bracket in my area like a Canon Eos R, so I think I will go Canon route. The 18-105 is an apsc lens I believe. Are Yoü shooting on a FF camera? What camera specifically?

I’m still rocking a a7ii and a7s If I upgrade I want a bmpcc4k do you recomend that? Still on the fence between no issues a7c or great video whit large files no autofocusbmpcc4k., since I already have 8bit low light I’m leaning to bmpcc4k

4k is awesome value. Raw video....free copy of Resolve. Not sure the A7c will add much to be honest

Hi Mark, I recently purchased an A7Sii that's barely been used. I have numerous Super Takumar and Minolta SR-7 series lenses I'm excited to try out. Can you give me a non-biased recommendation on adapters? Thanks in advance!

I’ve only ever used fotodiox. Not sponsored, not affiliated....they just work. I haven’t used their minolta adapters but I’m sure they’re just as good.

Lusting after new gear is better than actually BUYING new gear. "Wanting is better than actually HAVING." It's an old proverb.....

It's very true actually. It's like once you get it, the attraction is lost, not entirely, but a lot of it.

I wanted to upgrade my EOS R but I’ve decided I’m not. Unless I made the money making video work to upgrade. When I made the money, if they still do the job, I’m not upgrading 😌✋🏼. Thanks for helping me save money and instead made me thing about work on my craft 👍🏼👍🏼

It’s so enticing I get it, but if that camera is paid off and you’re still making money with it...that’s all profitsssssssssss

We all know that throwing money at your gear will make you a better photographer.
@MarkHoltze3 ай бұрын
Of course! It’s that easy ;) /sarcasm. Unfortunately a lot of newbies to the craft who watch KZbinrs sell them the latest cameras really don’t understand that it’s not the investment of gear that makes you better, but time. Time is a lot more expensive, can’t be rushed and requires patience. A lot of people now just want that internet clout ;) Ps buy my LuTS they will make you better ;) /sarcams
