Sony A7III VS A7sII - Which is better in 2018?

Damn! I'm torn between these two cameras for weeks. Getting tired of my Nikon D5100, I have waited two years to finaly buy a good camera i can put to work. And this video didn't help... except the new option to wait for the s3 (ö_ö) why is it suddenly so important to have 2 SDcard slots? and how often do you use the low light capabillity of those cameras in your work? And does the APS-C crop for 120p video happens in the a7iii? (didn't have a chance to test it yet) And can you please tell me what kind of SD card I need to fully use sonys? I had an issue testing the s2 because of my too slow SD card.

Dang! Torn was not the feeling I wanted to give.... Ha...Sorry! This may clear it up for you. Hands down the a7sII is still a better camera in my eyes. Mainly because it crushes all cameras with low light. I can happily say you will still feel okay realistically using 20k iso with the a7sii when you will want to stop using the a7iii at about 6400ish. For me, autofocus ain't too important because I always pull focus manually. The 120 does look cleaner on the A7iii...it doesn't do that crop thing. 2 SD cards for me isn't necessary. The thing is, on the 25th of this month is the biggest camera show on earth and they may announce the new Sony A7sIII!!!! If they don't announce it by then I think you are safe to make a decision. Thanx for untoring! and actually i have another question... It's about lenses. I see many youtubers using the sony cams with canon lenses and adapters. I guess it is a lot cheaper, but is there any other big advantage to consider? or is it better to stay within the EF-mount lenses? Beside of that, i really like you videos and your honest style!

hahaha... Sure thing and thanks for the compliment! Yeah...we all do that at first because of money and I recommend it if you are in a pinch, especially if you have some good Canon glass already. When made the switch from Canon I bought the cheap version of an adaptor that kinda worked and I don't think I would recommend that. The right way to do it is a metabones adaptor. The only thing is when you go the expensive adaptor way, you are almost halfway there for a decent native lens. What I have learned over the past 10 years of buying too much of this stuff is if you buy cheap, it breaks or something goes wrong and you end up buying the expensive option that you should have bought in the first place. In the end, you will eventually end up getting Sony glass, because in all cases it will always communicate better with your Sony camera. But that cost money. To answer your question, no, there is no advantage of staying with the EF lenses other than saving money(but sometimes that's what we got to do). Have you considered buying used? You can buy good used stuff from B&H or you could rent it from lensrentals.com and then if you like it typically they will let you keep it at a good used price. I buy used, nothing wrong with it! The truth is that the switch to Sony was a bit painful and costly at first but once you see what those cameras are capable of, the pain goes away. :-)

Hey Brian, can you explain the crop thing? I am making a decision between these two cameras and I am confused about the whole crop thing between these two cameras. I have a Sony A6500 and would like to use the APC-S lenses i currently have while I save up for better glass.

Sure, I will explain it the non-nerdy way. 1st of all, your lenses will work fine on these cameras until you get the bling to upgrade. In fact, If I were you, I might even wait to upgrade. Sony keeps making promises of this a7siii and I hope they would come through on their promises soon. If you asking the crop question because I said the sony a7sii shoots 120fps cropped, what that means is it is not true true 1080 at 120fps where the a7iii is shooting at true 1080. When you film 120fps on the A7sii it crops in on the footage massively. In other words, in the case of 120fps, the A7iii does a better job. If you do this for money, the a7sii is still the better camera in my eyes but it comes at a cost. The main differentiating factor for me is its low light capability. Hopefully, this answers a handful of questions for you. :-) The camera you have is already pretty dope.

Another great video. The more and more I see and hear about Sony I want one. The video quality they do alone is amazing. It’s out of my budget especially considering the cost of the lens. Me encuentro interesado en poder comprar una cámara filmadora o fotográfica, con la finalidad de poder realizar filmaciones en 4k, para espectáculos musicales, danza y desfiles en espacios cerrados, como también al aire libre (como ser en carnavales). Habitualmente los lugares donde debo filmar carecen de luminosidad, o bien hay una excesiva luz de reflectores. Asimismo, otra cuestión importante es el permanente movimiento de los artistas a quienes se filman, por cuanto la estabilización de la imagen es un punto muy importante, como también la calidad del sonido. He consultado, y la recomendación que obtuve fue la SONY FDR AX700, SONY A7SII, la sony AYIII, y la GH5s. Indagando en videos de youtube, como críticas surgen que algunas se desempeñan mejor que otras en circunstancias de poca luz, pero con la estabilización tienen dificultades. Otras de las críticas, es la escasa duración de filmación. Al parecer con las filmadoreas se puede filmar mas de 30 minutos, mientras que con las cámaras de fotos no se puede. Frente a este punto, mi duda es si debería apagar y encender la cámara fotográfica cada media hora, y en tal caso si eso daña el equipo, o no. I think this may have pushed me from upgrading from my a7 to the a7iii and not the a7ii, mainly cause battery life and the record button lol.
