I think that this is the best walkthrough tutorial I've seen for this. I was on the fence about buying this because I thought that the head tracker was absolutely necessary in order to use this. But just by watching this I think that I will buy it now. Thank you!

Hi! Thanks a lot man, I do my best to show what a plugin can and cant do, it benefits all who watch the video. The headtracker is not a must at all. I do find it adds a lot to the experience of sitting in a ''real'' room. Of course, without the headtracker you can get 100% of all the results you want out of this plugin. The headtracker comes for free with the plugin, so if you decide in a later stage you want to try that out, you will have access to it. Win win I would say.

I have to admit it’s confusing, I mentioned The plug-in “headtracker” which works with webcam which can’t be bought separately. The Bluetooth device with the name Headtracker must be bought separately indeed. Confusing much? ;-)

@whitenoisestudio

The whole idea is to not do that ;-) simply because the plugin compensates for whatever issues come with mixing in headphones. If you leave it on, the mixed in sound of the plugin will cause weird issues on different listening devices.

Hey Robert, yes absolutely turn it off during the final export. You dont want the 3d modelling on your mix besides during mixing on headphones. It's a reference tool, a plugin to make sure your mix sounds good on other devices when done on headphones.

"Monitor" by DearVR is far more convincing emulation of sitting in front of speakers... and it doesn't try and hype your headphones into a specific room sound.
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 3 жыл бұрын
As an alternative virtual speaker set something like the oceanway can be very handy. And that's the main reason why this plugin wil be of use. As a transparent speaker headmonitoring tool you're better of with the standard NX or the DearVR you mention, which is awesome for sure!
@thomasbelka8160
@thomasbelka8160 3 жыл бұрын
you compare a 30 euro plugin with a 250 euro plugin ... and im not sure if the result worth the amount of money. for that money you can buy realphones, sonarworks and Ocean and build a chain wich will pretty much sound like a real flat room. But even than, just imagine all the peepz producing in small rooms and are poor or out of money ... well spent 30 euros to deliver better mixes/productions
@mixphantom0101
@mixphantom0101 3 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbelka8160 I've tried (and own) the plugins you mentioned. DearVR's Monitor is aimed at the pro market as it's a psychoacoustic emulator which can handle mono/stereo and crazy amounts of multi channel setups. Without an accurate psychoacoustic simulation of "speakers in front of you" the result is a glorified EQ with some Ambience added. I'm sure you're aware that panning full Left or Right in headphones puts the sound directly into your ear without being able to hear the opposite channel... binaural... basically a mono signal for each ear. Panning and stereo reverb/delays are very difficult to judge like this - and mono signals like bass and vocals are "in your head" not in front of you. If you try mixing on Realphones or Waves, you'll notice than panning a signal from hard Left to Right doesn't sound like it's "in front of you" whereas DearVR does (not perfect, but certainly more convincing). As for Sonarworks... that's a completely different set of problems. I love Sonarworks for room correction... it changed my life! But the headphone correction should be avoided. My issue with Waves Ocean/Abbey and the Realphones systems is that they are imposing two sets of EQs on your music - converting your headphones to flat (approximately), and simulating the speakers in the room (approximately). The ambience is another problem, and even with DearVR I turn that off. If your main goal is using the headphone plugins to simulate other speakers/environments save your money and use Melda Production's free MConvolutionEZ with impulse responses - I use Auratone IRs to help balance the midrange... again, easy to find for free on the web.

Agree. Although the 30 vs 250 is not speaking of quality but more of the aggressive pricing by waves. And if you have the PA subscription it’s sort of free.

Do I need a camera or a bluetooth to calibrate this plugin? and if somone can help me what camera to buy to calibrate my headphones on this plugin pls
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 3 жыл бұрын
Good question. For the calibrating you dont need a camera. You need to measure you head circumference and the distance between your ears over the back of your head with a tape measure or something. For the headtracking you need either a bluetooth device with camera or a simple webcam or something. No need to get fancy there. I used a logitech c920 which I had laying around and its 8 years old.

@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 3 жыл бұрын
oef, difficult one. I dont think sonarworks does 3d space modelling right? Then i would use it after the nx plugins. Use the nx oceanway to emulate the response of the room and sonarworks to compensate the eq of your headphones. Otherwise the room emulation will go over the sonarworks correction and that would skew theaudio too much i would say.

I see this question come up a lot. Please use headphone EQ frequency correction, like Sonarworks Reference or Toneboosters' Morphit, BEFORE virtual room emulation, like Waves' NX, DearVR's Monitor, Toneboosters' Isone etc. The reason is simple: headphone EQ correction is designed specifically for the frequency response of a particular model of headphone, and using a virtual room emulation affects this frequency response. If you use EQ correction after virtual room emulation, it will NOT give you a flat frequency response because the EQ correction isn't designed to treat processed headphone audio. If, however, you use EQ correction before the virtual room, you will be getting a much closer emulation of what the real room, like Oceanway or Abbey Road Studio 3, actually sounds like. If you actually want to do a full mix with Nx Oceanway as your primary sound system, this is extremely important to get right.

A really nice video...but I think, that this kind of plug-in is not necessary. I´m mixing only on headphones and in the past two years it getting better and better...thats only because i check the mixes on other systems und get a feeling of using the effects (reverb, Delay, Chorus). Also mixing in Mono helps me to create a balanced mix. I use a boombox (mid-to-high-balance and effect-amounts) and the car (for the lower frequency-range of the mix). This money is better spend on real needed Plug-Ins like a good EQ, Compressor and Limiter!

I was thinking the same. At the end, It's all in understanding your headphones, how they sound and how a specific tone is translating to other speaker sistems. Only matter of time in my opinion
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 3 жыл бұрын
Not quite, but a lot is also true. I use ollo s4x and mixdecisions made in those translate really well. BUT lower end headphones have way more issues frequency wise. There is where a plug-in like this comes in handy, it really lets you mix different decisions. Also as a virtual reference speaker set, this is a bargain.

I typed a a complete answer on that missing comment, it's weird is gone. Anyway, you dont need to use this plugin always, just while mixing on headphones so the mix choices you make translate much better then when you are not mixing on headphones. Of course mute the plugin while exporting, it's only for reference on headphones.
