What I hate mobas and deadlock for is how little player agency there is. In a usual shooter a useless 0 kills teammate who dies a lot just puts you in a harder but managable 4v5 or 5v6. In mobas and deadlock the same player not only basically puts you in a number disadvantage, but also ensures the enemy team has pure stat advantage over making it psysically impossible for you to carry. After trying the game a bit I competely understand why moba players are so toxic and miserable, and even more clueless of why do people even play mobas

Gonna be honest I HATED this game, shooting at bots for 20 minutes straight with no progress from either team is so mind numbingly boring it legitimately gave me a headache no joke. Also ttk is so fkin high until you get like 20 perks dont expect to kill anyone unless they are stupid or the matchup is bad.
@FlailmorphoАй бұрын
@truthfuldrake278 it isn't the game's fault that you need to learn a new behavioral syntax. If your match has no progress that's on you, you should be taking objectives as often as possible. The TTK means you actually need to fight your opponent, this isn't a shooter where just whoever gets the drop on the other guy wins, you have to actually work for your kills. You can't just expect this to be cod or overwatch or csgo, this is a moba, you're sieging a base, not just fighting people

This game has zero comeback mechanics. If you get behind in this game YOU CANNOT CATCH BACK UP (unless you're playing against a shitty team/are playing with a serious 5-stack). It just feels awful being a couple k in net worth behind and shooting someone and barely even scratching their gargantuan health bar(s). It's like you said: What am I supposed to do? If you group up and try to gank and find a pick in this game to try and level out the exp/net worth graph - BOOM there goes two of your fucking towers. There's just nothing you can do. The game ends in the first 10 minutes. And the laning is so fucking boring. In dota, laning is a skill in and of itself. The laning stage is engaging all the way through. In deadlock? You're just shooting and melee'ing creeps and trying to go for denies and taking little pot shots at your counterpart enemy laner. It sounds a lot like dota laning, but it is so fucking dry and tedious. And going for kills in this game is so unsatisfying. If you blow all of your ability and item cooldowns to make a push and try to kill me - guess what? I'm going to blow all of my ability and item cooldowns to either A) run away or B) fight. And if I feel like the engagement is disadvantageous at all I'll just blow my load and dash-dash-dash-jump-jump away. And that's it. That's the combat gameplay loop. You blow your load to attack someone, and they either blow their load to fight you back if they think they can win, or they blow their load to escape if they feel like they won't win. There's just no way to play this game. The gunplay feels like masturbating on 500mg of Zoloft and a gram of finasteride, and the reload animations/the little circle thing that plays when you reload is just disgusting. It looks so damn bad and it feels bad too. Why can't shooting people feel good like in other games? I know it's a MOBA first and a 3rd person shooter tenth, but jesus man why would you not take the opportunity here to make aiming skill based as well? The game is just a fucking mess, honestly. And yes, it is still in alpha - I get it. But the core game is just...Unplayable. It's like you're not allowed to have fun playing this game.

I mean I do appreciate that you're being honest and fair. It's just that different people like different kinds of shooters. I can't stand recoil in games. Like PUBG drove me crazy since I can't just "spray" the gun and I have to keep pulling the mouse down a town. If someone likes that and someone's like "woahh realism", then good for you. I like when shooting feels natural (point and click) and not something you have to practice a ton in some firing range training mode. I play games to relax, not to improve. And I want an "easy" shooter where I just point my cursor at the enemy and they take damage. And I definitely don't like it when people die with a few bullets/hits and if it's about "spot the cat in the picture" and people have camoflage clothing. I know, I know. That's what war is. But I'm not into war games at all. I literally just wish they'd make more games like Unreal Tournament and Quake. And I also do not like "headshotting" in shooters. Back when I played shooters in the 90s, that wasn't really as important and now it's made the biggest thing ever in all shooters that you have to point an extremely small part of the body. I mean if people want games to be hard, more power to you, as long as they keep making games that are easier as well. If it was up to me, stuff like "bullet drop" wouldn't exist... Sniping in newer games feels so "meh" compared to railgunning people back in the day where you could actually point at the enemy player, not above them or next to them (if they're running)... So far Apex Legends has scratched that perfect itch for me and I'm thrilled to see what Deadlock will feel like. Smite 2 also seems mildly interesting. Different strokes for different folks.

I like your perspective as someone who doesnt play these kinds of games. However on the note about the snowball games where you don't know what to do, that can be frustrating but there are tools that you can use to comeback, and the comebacks in this game or dota happen all the time. There is a reason why there is no forfeit option. Many times the way to comeback is to use an item that isn't in your build that will help stop movement, healing, or from firing their weapon, and there is also the urn which you can coordinate with your team to get for more souls. Knowing what tool is best to make that happen comes with time and knowledge about the items and heroes

I dont think snowballing itself is the actual issue with peope quitting midgame. The issue is that at lower levels the team that has the soul advantage doesnt understand how to go about actually winning the game, and the losing team also isnt good enough to understand how to take advantage of that and you end up with this awful 70 minute grind just to lose. If you look at tournament play youll notice that games usually take about 30 minutes and if they are longer then usually its a very even match.

I think the problem is that most people for some unknown reason, started saying this game was like TF2 or Overwatch when in reality it's basically just DOTA with some shooter elements. I've been playing shooters for decades and I'm having a really hard time with the game because the MOBA elements are basically 90% of the game, it doesn't matter how many headshots I hit if I'm down 2K souls in the first 6/7 minutes and if my build is all over the place. If you are already familiar with MOBAs and all the related concepts (farming, items, ganks and so on) you'll have such an easier time with this. The game is fantastic nonetheless considering it's JUST an early development build and the final release will most likely be really different. I really don't understand why people started calling this game the new "Overwatch" when even the devs on discord says it's basically DOTA. I've played around 50 hours and I had fun, but I'll probably just drop it because I don't like MOBAs at all especially since this one is already extremely competitive.
@JustATypicalGinger2 ай бұрын
I think you (and a lot of people) are underestimating the amount of shooter DNA present in the design, but it is inspired by hero shooters and arena shooters much more than it is tac shooters/ realism focused shooters. The primary shooter elements that it brings to the MOBA formula is the *insanely* high skill cap movement and the map's verticality and the variability of sightlines throughout the map. SMITE is already a third person MOBA but it's just as 2 dimensional as any other MOBA from the map design to how the heroes play, Deadlock is very different. My initial impression as soon as I felt the gunplay, was similar to yours but as someone who loves the more movement focused shooters, the potential here is incredible. The variety of techs regarding how you can use momentum, chain different movement abilities, and use the maps geometry is legitimately mind boggling. Most people are not even making good use of the basic movement abilities right now, but I can't even imagine what highly skilled players will be capable of in a few years. Think of it this way, at level 1 you have a movement kit comparable to a Titanfall pilot but with a FAR higher skillfloor to get similar results, and of that only SCALES throughout the game because its a MOBA. It might not be for you, MOBAs with their snowballing mechanics and level of reliance on your team are notoriously frustrating and unpalatable for a lot of people, but I think your own personal preferences have given you a narrow view of what shooters are and can be. Quake where competitive shooters originated and it plays a lot more like Deadlock than Hell Let Lose.

For me Deadlock is more of a moba than an actual shooter. very few heroes are entirely dependant on bullet damage and the ones that do are more for beginners, they will get boring very quickly. I would compare the gameplay more to Smite than an actual shooter game. I feel like with the expectation of it not being a shooter then the game feels a lot more enjoyable. I love it and Im currently obsessed, but that's becuase I enjoy mobas like dota, lol, hots, and smite A LOT! So I knew it was going to be something more along those tracks.

i mean a lot of your gripes in the beginning can be said about overwatch as well; no recoil, some bullet sponges, not a ton of variety in recoil patterns a lot of people don't like twitchy recoil pattern sightline shooters like CS, valorant, siege; myself included the reason i like hero shooters and not just a raw shooter is the extra level of thinking you have give to abilities, timing, coordination, all augmented *if* you have good aim, not completely reliant on exceptional aim you have a better chance of digging yourself out of a skill gap by out thinking your opponent in deadlock or other hero shooters or mobas; I've even won a bunch of 5v6 games in deadlock after people left because they felt they fed the other person too much (the game is rarely completely lost after a bad early game) different strokes for different folks

It requires a significant time investment and learning effort to not be overwhelmed by its vast number of item choices or confused by its visual clutter. I think it does not help that it is literally the only game out there like it. So, your impressions feel like the logical conclusion of being someone from a very different background who has spent their first hours with the game. I think most of its issues, however, disappear the more you play it, and it becomes one of the most addicting games of 2024. But if the initial time with the game fails to hook you, I think it is very natural to think this game is not for you.

Lots of different weapons, Accuracy International AW, Barrett, SCAR, AK, RPD, MG3, Kriss Vector, Mp 5, Mp 7, Desert Eagle, Glock 17 etc all named differently cause of copy write. Lots of weapon accessories to improve your weapons (muzzle, sights, laser/lights, magazines). Mods to improve your damage or give you even a never ending magazine (as long as you have ammo). You can build a base in your territory and there is crafting, resource gathering and even farming if that boils your oil. I'd rather play Smite than this. This game honestly is overrated hardcore. The gameplay is very bland. All it's doing is catering hard to groups. Give it a little bit and the numbers will drop really hard.

I appreciate an honest review. However, you said yourself youve never played a MOBA so you basically have no idea what this game is about and are in my opinion not qualified to give it a review. Especially coming from games like hell let loose, this is not the game for you, but you fogured that out yourself :D Still, this is like youre reviewing the new iPhone after spending 2h with it as your first apple product ever. Not fair to the product and not fair to your audience. (I am in no way supporting apple, just had to find an example and u fortunately iPhones are very common everywhere)

Again and again i see new people go into this game with the wrong mindset, you said "very slow, push and pull". It is a push and pull, this game is one of the most fast paced shooters ever, the movement is as important as the gunplay. I feel that the gunplay is unsatisfying, but man is there so much more to it and im not talking about items. I would advise everyone who wants to start to look at how the game is MEANT to be played with good players on youtube.

It's called a games and any shooter game kinda the same as well. your view of the game is kinda 90's or 80's dad that seeing their kids playing some goofy video games while in His own leisure paying tetris and chess thinking it's not a game. I have seen this kind of midset with "I'm so cool i'm play this game" but in reality this kind of people is scared of change, scared of new things and it's just a cope mechanism seeing something and try to bring it down. You think it's kinda helping but in reality feels kinda haters view. XD

His opinion is his opinion however there are a couple things to keep in mind. 1) This is a closed alpha. You have to be invited to even play it. 2) It's going to feel like shit if you are expecting it to play like an FPS, it's not trying to be an FPS. That's like saying COD is shit for not being like StarCraft.

to be honest, the gun play you're used to is low TTK. You probably never played something like quake so this wouldn't be the kind of game for you. You're used to shooting slow moving targets whereas things here move at erratic paces. The correct title should be "dont play valve's new shooter if your'e not into twitch shooters"

For me the game's not fun. Deadlock provides a strategy gameplay (where you essentially need a lot of information) with shooter controls which limit a game-awarness. Random bunch of moba mechanics feels inconsistent. Three level map is too large in my opinion and overloaded. Underground is random and strange: creeps, bosses, urns and buffs, wtf. I'm not saying about builds/skills/skills-upgrade/flex system which is a huge cognitive load for a highly dynamic game. In the end of the day, Deadlock looks like 3-person Dota2 and it's sad... My opinion, of course. I don't want once again become Ph.D. in a new MOBA, I want to get fun of gaming. I think Valve and other game developers should use an old Blizzard moto of "easy to learn, hard to master". Gl hf

Everyone and I mean everyone is calling this game Overwatch/TF2. And possibly saying later that yea it is a MOBA. But in reality it is DOTA/MOBA in 3th person. If there is anything to enjoy or praise this game for? Fine. Yet if no one wants haters to hate then do not fool people into something they do not want or asked for. This is a Overwatch! Wait what? Oh? You do not like DOTA? Well your wrong to dislike the game. If a car dealer sold you on a car and then when you drive off the lot you find out that the car is not road legal. Then would you not be upset that the car dealer sold you a rock crawler/off-roader ? I mean look at SUV's being sold. Should not be legal... Point is. Your sold on a idea/concept. To then find out that what it should have (honestly) been said to be is DOTA 3. With Overwatch. I would call this Deadlock game. DOTA/Fornite/CoD/Overwatch. At what point is this TF2 for instance? Where is it? Even Overwatch had Torbjörn and such. I honestly see myself begin to play Fornite for the first time or something like that then some MOBA/DOTA like game. Artifact = Deadlock. Deadlock = Artifact. And no. Not a big shooter fan. TF2 for instance is a old-school team shooter. Played allot of MOBA like World Of Tanks. Awful game that is. Simply tanks are fun. Not even played Overwatch. It simply comes down to the fact that the strategy part of the game is going to be busy work and allot of BS like stun and crap on the screen. With the shooting being awful. Relying on teamwork to have anything happen etc. Like we have Helldivers 2! If not for PSN and such I would probably have started to play that game. That is a PVE game too! It is not even fair to compare it to a PVP game. Yet it deserve more phrase then some DOTA like. Even in technical merits, look at the fluid switching between 3th and 1st person shooting in that game! And the animations! I never liked Overwatch over TF2. I would find it difficult to enjoy Overwatch but DOTA. No way!

"I dont think people really want deadlock" Meanwhile on Steam: Getting close to 100k and its not even closed beta. - You don't speak for everyone sushhh I love how these boomers try to gatekeep their memories of the old valve games by telling them what to do, thinking the new generation of gamers share the same taste. Valve doesn’t owe anyone anything-they’re a private company and can do whatever they want. And I love them for it. This game have its place as Valves 3rd competitive multiplayer game along with CS and Dota. This will 100% pass 500k players at some point. A new HL game is in development too according to leaks so there's that.

@@ZALYVES You're totally in love with Valve, huh? You said this game is easier for new players, but I’ve played top-down MOBAs like Dota 2 and League, plus a bunch of FPS games, and I still suck at this game. The problem with this game is that it's way too hard combining a third-person shooter with a MOBA is just ridiculous. Even if you're the fastest shooter, your enemies can just run away and heal, and then you’re the one who ends up dead. It's super frustrating and makes you want to quit. I really hate the vertical shooting trying to hit an enemy with tons of HP just makes it even harder. If you think it’s just a skill issue, it's not. It’s the game’s fault. If they want more players, they need to make it more accessible. The third-person perspective is the problem, and if they added auto-lock or some indication of how close you are to your enemy, it might help beginners. This isn’t an FPS, after all.

Hahaha. Paid actor by Hi-Rez Stuidios. No, but seriously, glad to see there are a few haters, and not everyone is drinking the Valve Koolaid. My opinion? That you have a pretty bad take on the entire game. It's loads of fun, already feels polished, and is barely in beta. And it's Valve. I see from your other videos you are a hardcore shooter fan who loves ballistics. Hell Let Loose. Hunt. Grey Zone. I know you need that recoil. I know you need your enemies to die with one well-placed headshot. Ya, this game isn't for you. Don't yuck our yum dude! lol. Kidding. Rock and roll.

In standard shooters, you generally use your gun to kill heroes. In deadlock, you use your gun to shoot souls to power up abilities. And then you use those abilities to actually kill heroes or pull objective, unless you're going for a DPS Build which is nice if you main Ivy.

Your frustration comes from not understanding what a moba is and expecting this game to just be a shooter with small moba elements. You're getting mad at the fact that its 80% moba and 20% shooter so you have no clue how to play it and are blaming a bunch of things that are core moba mechanics. "too many items", yeah it's a moba lol. "Shooting mechanics are meh" Yeah it's a moba. It's just not for you especially if you're coming into it with expectations that it's going to have be like hardcore shooters like the ones you play lmao.

This game makes no sense , its like an average moba for some reason played in third person. Make more sense for Valve to just improve dota , or make an origonal third person shooter. I think it actually could have been more interesting if they made this more like a shooter but with the moba lane aspect instead its like they took the worst aspects of a moba and the worst aspect of a fps tps... What real benefits is aiming and shooting if most the mechanics are strategy and slow tts / spell / area weapons. Oh well the grinding and unlocking of pointless atuff will probably suck in ppayers and it will sell well regardless.
@FlailmorphoАй бұрын
@GamerMuscleVideos the benefit of aiming is, more damage, to help you win fights and trades. If you get headshots you deal double damage, and swing a lot of the fight in your favor. Aim helps you dominate lane with farm demial as well. If you can't aim in this game, you still have a chance, but you're much weaker without it.
