First We Feast

2 жыл бұрын

In an area of Flatbush Brooklyn, known as “Little Caribbean,” the flavors of the islands are on every corner - with jerk chicken, oxtail stew, beef patties, and more.
Locals Michael and Nicole Nicholas - aka Aunty Nic and Uncle Mike - wanted to bring the same flavors of their upbringing, but with a healthier twist. Their cafe, Aunts et Uncles, features home recipes with plant-based ingredients, such as the bake & saltfish - a classic and iconic Caribbean breakfast. Their cafe is a tribute to the culture of Flatbush - providing inspiration, comfort, and healthy cuisine to the community they love.

Anything with salt fish in it. Bake, fritters, ackee, doesn't matter to me as long as it has salt fish in it. Also curry chicken and conch salad.

I live just a few blocks from Aunt’s Et Uncles and find myself here about once a week. I’ve literally tried everything on the menu and it’s all delicious. The music is always a vibe, the staff is so polite and the food never disappoints! If you’re ever in the area you should definitely stop by for a bite. I promise they won’t let you down.

"consume life rather then someones death", damn that's a great way to put it, I'd buy a shirt with that on it
@phearz0r
@phearz0r 2 жыл бұрын
So what you're saying is that plants aren't living things? ALL life has to consume other living or formerly living things. That's how the food chain works, goomba. Veganism is not healthy for humans, not healthy for the planet, not healthy for anyone except the companies selling highly processed garbage and labeling it "vegan food"
@zamphox
@zamphox 2 жыл бұрын
@@phearz0r Well "living" is pretty vague, but I think it's safe to say plants are not sentient, so they are not really "dying" in a sense that would be relevant. You do you, of course, but I'd recommend you try it, for like a month, to compare how you feel, to maybe prove me wrong.
@bluepajamagamers5704
@bluepajamagamers5704 2 жыл бұрын
@@zamphox Something doesn't have to be sentient to die. "They are not really dying in a sense that would be relevant", that is the most nonsense statement I've ever read. Plants and animals are both alive and they both die, based on our understanding yes they experience it differently, but they both die, period. Many would argue in comparison to our sentience animals aren't sentient in a "relevant" way. Can you see how your comparison makes no sense? Eating is consuming life, that is just what it is. People have different beliefs and that is ok, but what you're peddling in this comment section is straight-up dumb. Sorry but it's true.
@zamphox
@zamphox 2 жыл бұрын
@@bluepajamagamers5704 alright then, worth a shot
@phearz0r
@phearz0r 2 жыл бұрын
@@zamphox why would I torture my body with plants for a month? im not brain damaged. 99% of plants are toxic to us in some way, they have their defense systems. 99% of animals are not toxic in anyway to humans. Humans are obligate carnivores, with a recent adaptation to eating plant foods. Our ancestors have been eating meat for millions of years, suddenly some millenial says it's bad for us? i dont think so. and really, you gonna say that because something isn't "sentient", it's not alive? that's something ludicrous a vegan would say to cope with the fact that they are killing living beings to sustain their life. plants damn well have sentience, and they feel "pain" , and respond to stimulus, and have memory. this is one of the main issues that vegan people have, they have this guilt, that has been implanted into them. killing animals for sustenance is 100% normal and part of life

Flatbush Ave separates one of the wealthiest parts of Brooklyn from one of the poorest parts. The contrast is dramatic. The city street sweepers just turn around when they hit Flatbush Ave. Its like two different cities.

Downvoter haters are the same type who get angry that everyone need to appease vegans by ensuring they have triple the amount of products down to a “choice” to not eat something when those with allergies who “CANNOT” eat many foods are left hungry. And if we don’t appease vegans then they’ll create hashtags on social media hating on a company or restaurant.
