I don't think the books are clear on this matter. It is explained that horcruxes work the opposite way to the human body - you can destroy the body and the soul won't be harmed but if you destroy a horcrux then the soul piece is destroyed too. But then other parts of the books seem to contradict that idea. Just before voldemort's death, Harry seems to think remorse would still save voldemort and restore his soul even though the horcruxes have been destroyed. I also got the impression in the books that all remorseless murderers get stuck in limbo, even if they didn't create horcruxes.

basically Voldemort has damaged his soul so much that he would be in a limbo state( that limbo voldemort in kings cross when harry dies and visits dumbedore before harry comes back alive 0 forever, theres no moving on or coming back as a ghost for voldemort, its nothign to do with remorse, its cos voldemort ruined his soul way too much

It's a main theme in the books that remorse is the cure for a split soul and is even mentioned as a way to undo a horcrux. Book Harry told Voldemort to feel remorse just before Voldemort died.

@@Annihilationzh number one, why you triggered? ii didn't say anything insulting imo lol and second this is said by JK rowling( the creator of harry potter: Rowling stated that after his death, Voldemort is forced to exist in the stunted infant-like form that Harry sees in the King's Cross-like limbo after his confrontation with Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest. Rowling also mentioned that, despite his extreme fear of death, he cannot become a ghost
