Honestly more people aren’t using VR because the dominanter of the VR market is meta. No one wants to play on a Facebook VR headset. It will get popular but the only big options right now are apples expensive dev kit or a Facebook headset from the same company that ur mom posts photos on. If we had a good competitor that wasn’t too expensive, and have better hardware then meta, and better software then Apple, then we Would have the most successful VR headset of all time.
@MrJr19769 ай бұрын
VR needs to become more utilitarian, cheaper, and with a longer battery life by default. Like if I could use my headset as a phone, that would be very cool.
@OfficialDJSoru9 ай бұрын
There's also another point: a midranged pc nowadays has WAY BETTER VR performance than the minimum required in the past (i5-4500, GTX970/1060), this also means more people had time to get VR capable PCs even if they weren't planning on using VR before. Kinda like not wanting Assetto Corsa... until you get around to buying a wheel for racing games.

iPhones are popular because people need a phone-any phone but iPhone are popular-But no one “needs” a VR-that’s the difference. A phone is a necessity -communication is a necessity. Virtual reality is not a necessity. It’s a luxury. One is a utility -the other is not. Imo.
@Mutrax47069 ай бұрын
then theres price lotta people want/buying the newest iphone tho dont need a very expensive phone, altho vr by default can get expensive quest 2 gotten fairly cheap and does job fine but also isnt "top of the line"
@wrongteous8 ай бұрын
A phone is a necessity of course. However, a smartphone didn't used to be considered a necessity, rather it was considered a luxury. This is because a regular cellphone had the basic call/text functions of the iPhone, without any of the gimmicky stuff, making it far cheaper and more appealing to everyone. However, the iPhone, gradually, made everyone aware of why it's gimmicks mattered, and overtime, it grew to be the biggest tech product on the planet. The exact same thing is going to happen with VR. As you said, VR Headsets are a luxury right now, and most people don't understand why it's gimmicks are important. However, with time, mass appeal will emerge, and we'll transition from having screens in our hands, to screens on our faces.

For those saying price, I’m not entirely sure what many are going on about, but with the exception of Apple Vision and even index, at most, headsets are in the 500 dollar range at most with quest 2 being at its most cheapest. Where I see issues are a lack of titles. There was a time there was a steady stream of quality titles from pretty good developers, but now it’s a special occasion to have some (EX- Upcomjng as of this comment is Metro VR and Zombie Army VR) Not to mention the lack of support for other mediums outside of stand-alone and PC hurts it chances. This is where I, and Xbox fan, has to give credit to PS for offering some option for console players (still doesn’t help with the price, but that’s a given). Maybe if consoles open a VR ecosystem in their console market place, perhaps you’ll see more people hop on and get great quality.
@dsmith86169 ай бұрын
Motion sickness is a huge one (yes the brain adjusts, but you feel like burning garbage for the few weeks until you do.. I was seeing Wireframes around everything for 3 days), price (which has now dropped considerably.. its cheaper in price than a Switch now) and catalogue of titles is the main issue right now.. not enough titles have support, some titles are locked behind game completion (Rise Of The Tomb Raider) and some just feel like tech demos, not actual games.. The issue that needs to be addressed, is the reliance on Wireless Infrastructure.. if you want to play “untethered” from a Gaming PC, or even just cloud gaming, internet access and coverage needs to be addressed nation wide. The stuttering from wi-fi not being able to send/receive data packets fast enough is gonna be the biggest hinderance for most..

I think the main problem is that VR takes energy, phones and games where you just sit on your couch all day made people lazy and now that they have a hobby where you actually have to move your body it is to much of a hassle
@fleetingimmersion8 ай бұрын
Can't argue with that, though I do occasionally use it for exercise, the only game that actually drove me to move my body when I was exhausted was Pistol Whip, and you can't base a whole technology on one game. They really just need to come out with more content while improving hardware AND NOT LINKING YOUR VR PORN MACHINE TO FACEBOOK WHERE YOUR MOM LOGS IN.

The iPhone didn't happen in a vacuum; other phones existed as well. Imagine if getting an iPhone meant you couldn't call/text/whatever users of other phones. I guarantee you the graph would look a lot different, at least in my country and I feel pretty comfortable extrapolating that to the region as well. Most of us here aren't swimming in money. That's still our perception of VR devices: that they all are stuck in their respective ecosystems. We're not really seeing any difference in the latest VR push compared to the times the industry tried previously. Still just a small handful of titles, still on their own platforms, still extremely expensive. I'll not gainsay that mass VR adoption will happen eventually; I'm just saying you're being way too optimistic if you think THIS wave is when it'll happen.
@wrongteous8 ай бұрын
All VR Headsets have access to the same multiplayer games i.e. Rec Room and VRChat, for example. If anything, VR Headsets are exactly like games consoles. You can't friend people on the other platforms, but you can play the same games (except for exclusives, which are usually only single player games). Also, whilst VR doesn't have the same oversaturated market as console games, the games are A LOT cheaper on VR headsets. Nowadays, most releases are by Triple A devs charging a minimum of like $70 for games. VR Headsets, on the other hand, have games regularly released that are sold (usually) at a maximum of about $20, despite the game having just as much content as Triple A games on consoles.

@wrongteous8 ай бұрын
Tbf, companies like Lenovo, Asus and Xbox are all going to be making headsets. It's just that they're gonna be building them on Meta's Quest operating system, so they're still Meta headsets. All other competition, like Pico, for example, has essentially stunted and ceased to exist because they just tried to copy the Quest 2. However, if you really don't want a Meta headset, then you could look into a PCVR headset, but those will set you back a bit more.

That makes this even more hilarious. A headset stuck on a Stand that's only able to display one single color outsold an apple headset with the most modern of features.
@anonymoususer1889 ай бұрын
Ah yes. The classic argument. So far, this thing (Meta Quest headset) has very closely followed the trend that a previous thing (iPhones) followed which therefore must mean that it will continue to follow a similar trend because the underlying reasons behind both trends must be the same. It's not at all possible for two things to have similar starting trends and then have massively different ones later on. In case the sarcasm wasn't obvious, this is such a massive logical fallacy that only PR/marketing people will actually try to convince you it's true because they're trying to convince you that their product will be successful. That and people who either fell for their marketing or don't understand how trends work. The driving force behind the iPhone's popularity is completely different than the driving force behind Meta Quest headsets. Will Meta Quest headsets increase in popularity as the technology improves and/or becomes cheaper to produce thus lowering the price? Most likely, yes. However, there's no reason to assume that it will explode in popularity like the iPhone did. There's simply less of a demand for VR headsets than there is for smart phones. Just about everyone owns some brand of smart phone in modern America. However, I don't foresee the day when everyone owns a VR headset. Plenty of people just won't care about a gaming console, no matter how cool the gimmick of VR is perceived.

The VR console is too fragile. Sunlight that even comes into your room ruins the whole system. They need something else besides redlights to make the system more durable. The games are also a big take on why VR isn't huge because the games on there get old really fast or online games has you meet a 13-year-old or around that age that talks trash, rages when they are losing, or just overall just whines. The only major hits that are fun are Beat Saber, SuperHot, and some other game franchises. My pitch (and you can say this is from SAO anime because it is) is Full Dive VR and people are working on it for medical reasons first, but that will be the future of gaming all together.
@unidentified56289 ай бұрын
Other things they could do now to boost the popularity besides the games. 1. Make deals with companies who own popular shows and sure to make a VR simulation to interact with your favorite characters. 2. Add "adult rated apps" (if you know what I mean... Sex sells, don't blame me, blame the internet) 3. For the chat rooms, just add small table games and stuff have more small fun while talking. 4. Find a way to make movements more fluid (given that should be obvious, but the movements in VR really need to step their game up
