The one thing I couldn't stop admiring about advanced warfare was the attention to detail in audio design. I fucking LOVED the sound of crackling pieces of glass under your boot, the "micro crackling" sound the guns make when swapping, the sound of his bionic arm when it recalibrates. Advanced warfare dominated sound design until the modern warfare reboot.
@PricelessBinkey13372 жыл бұрын
The guns sounded a lot better too. Really futuristic. Lethal but slick is how i can only really describe it. Like ghosts was good for that too, those guns sounded meaty and crisp.

If they had just switch the characters of Mitchell and Will, this story would have been so much better. You join the military with your best friend Mitchell, and he gets killed. You then go to his funeral with your dad, Irons. You then get a new arm and start fighting for your Dad's army. you then find out that your dad inevitably led to your friends death by sparking conflicts just so he could become powerful. This gives you a hatred for your dad. Eventually killing him an avenging your friend. The fact that it's your dad you have to kill makes it so much more emotional.
@renatus200584 жыл бұрын
I think that would be a nice idea but I still love the actual story of Advanced Warfare to be honest. I just love Mitchell as a character. I also think the whole story revolving around the Atlas Corporation is also pretty well-done too.

Fans: We want something different, we get the same game every year. COD: Here's advanced warfare with a bunch of new different features. Fans: WTF WHY IS THIS GAME SO DIFFERENT!!!!!!! I loved advanced warfare it was a nice change of pace. Where they went wrong was having the next 3 games also having futuristic themes and movements. There are 3 studios making COD games, if each studio did a different theme we would have a good variety in the annual releases. One studio could make WW2/Vietnam/etc, another studio could make modern warfare games, and another studio make futuristic style games. This would mean each year we get something new and fresh.

Something id like to point out is how creative the designs are. The exosuits look cool and the weird face masks for the marines in the first mission look great. The walking tanks have such a great design and sound. The drone swarm in the first mission moves really cool. The gun designs (though some are pulled from previous games) are creative and interesting. The grenades are super cool and creative. I have nothing but respect for the art team for AW. (Also a small detail you probably missed: in the funeral, you can see that the USMC insignia is different. It has the earth and an eagle biting an anchor in front of it instead of the usual eagle on top of earth and the anchor behind the planet.)

@slickiej97162 жыл бұрын
The campaign was god like bro
@BuckeyeNationRailroader2 жыл бұрын
The game didn't have that good of a campaign as it made no sense. Certainly, it was something out of the ordinary for a Call of Duty title, but when looking back on it, the game is simply an Anti-Corporate message. The first issue I have with the campaign is how do all the resources that Humanity depends on still exist in this future? The game takes place between the years of 2054 and 2061, and somehow humanity has grown to this advanced civilization with no border changes, climate change has been solved. In this universe, Electric Vehicles have replaced gas-powered vehicles, yet the world's militaries still have equipment that is dependent on fossil fuels. By the 2050s in this timeline, Earth's natural resources would have been depleted, and the needs of our planet would be greater than she could supply. This in turn would be a recipe for disaster across multiple countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, etc who are all dependent on that of the oil industry. Even worse for this scenario is it even states in the game itself that the fossil fuel industry is still thriving inside many countries, and in fact somehow Atlas managed to rebuild Iraq of all places from the ground up. Even worse for this game is that somehow the United States, the Peoples' Republic of China, the Russian Federation, etc are completely and totally ignored, or make no sense. In the opening of the game, you hear images of North Korea invading South Korea and somehow are able to do it with relative ease. The biggest and foremost question is how does North Korea still exists in this futuristic world. North Korea is not sustainable, and by this point in the future world that the game exists in, either North Korea would have fully collapsed and would have been absorbed into South Korea, or the most likely possibly be absorbed into that of the Peoples Republic of China. Yet the game makes no mention of this or takes it into account, and the opening conflict of the game makes no sense. This can further be attributed to the setting of where Atlas sets up its military headquarters, Baghdad, or "New Baghdad" Iraq. Iraq is one of the most religiously ethnic divided regions on the planet, and the developers only briefly mention that Iraq descended into chaos, and yet somehow Atlas managed to come out on top. Iraq wouldn't just be in Chaos, but the fact that it was a Private American Company rebuilding Iraq would go against many religious principles that are valued by the people in the region. Atlas wouldn't be living in happiness they would be dealing with a full-blown religious insurrection between the various Sunni and Shia Arabs and the Sunni Kurdish people. Adding onto the problems of this game are the villains themselves. First off, who is the KVA? They are only described as Anti-Western Anti-Technology Extremist groups from the Chechen Rebellions. First off, the Chechen Rebellion was instigated due to poor economic conditions and the ethnic nationalism that resulted from the fall of the Soviet Union. Does this mean that the Russian Federation has collapsed and there is an economic crisis going in Russia? If that is the case, then why are the KVA not fighting against the Russian Government? Even furthermore is an economic crisis in Russia would lead to the complete and total collapse of nations such as the Peoples Republic of China and the European Union, and it would instigate another recession, to say the least. Keeping with this pattern the KVA doesn't have a legitimate purpose as to why they are fighting for what they are fighting, and given that the group appears to have sustained amounts of military hardware, which brings up a whole other question as to how they got it and are able to operate independently to cause a World Wide Disaster such as this. The situation is further exacerbated when looking at the ATLAS Corporation. The first and foremost is how does a Private Military Corporation manage to grow larger than governmental bodies and is able to wage a global-wide conflict and profoundly make victories against some of the greatest world powers? In this universe, somehow ATLAS Corporation managed to hire more than 45 Million "Soldiers" and brainwash them to wage a war against their homelands, and Irons managed to hold out in the war for six months and develops his own WMD's in the process and wage a war against the largest powers in the world across all continents. The biggest issue is how does a Private Corporation grows this large without some kind of government intervention? If a company, especially an American one, manages to grow to superpower status and become more powerful than that of the Peoples Republic of China and the United States combined, that would lead to some serious international condemnation, which is never specified in the game, and the level of government corruption needed to create a company larger than that of the East India Company and richer than that of the East India company would be so great, that it would be capable of destabilizing entire countries. Funny enough this kind of corruption is not only mentioned in the game, it is also encouraged by the United Nations Security Council itself, which absolutely makes no sense considering in the United Nations charter, but the UN also cannot have any governing authority. Even worse for this is somehow ATLAS Corporation is able to unite the United Nations against them and mount World War III across all continents. This is highly improbable considering the moment ATLAS Corporation turned on the world, the security forces wouldn't receive payment and Irons would be using his fortune in a global-wide war. Further adding onto this is the game never specified what happened in those six months between the Mission Armada, and the mission Throttle. Six months passed in that timeframe between those two missions, and somehow the Atlas Corporation managed to do considerable damage to all the world's superpowers, and still maintain indigenous production to continue the war effort. In this universe what should have happened is after the San Francisco attack, the United States and their NATO allies would have declared war against Atlas, and then they would have been defeated in less than a month, maybe even a month and a half at most, and it wouldn't have been a global-wide conflict. This is game is further exacerbated by the plot for which the United States appears to be covertly fighting for. Literally, the United States is fighting ATLAS Corporation because somehow a Private Military Corporation is able to manufacture so many WMDs that it is able to wage a successful biological war. The biggest flaw with this is under the terms of the United Nations and the Geneva Convention is the manufacturing of WMDs (Nuclear Weapons, Chemical Weapons, etc.) has been strictly limited to governmental bodies. Corporations, not even Private Military Corporations, can manufacture Chemical Weapons and WMDs. Unless if international law has been completely abolished, which would have been an extremely dumb move, ATLAS would never have been able to acquire this kind of weaponry. Furthermore, the US, Russian, Chinese, British, and European intelligence I would assume would have found out about ATLAS's Weapon known as "Manticore" and it would have been exposed to the world way before the ending of the game, and the international court of justice would have been all over ATLAS. Furthermore, how does MANTICORE even exist? Manticore is described as a Biological Agent that is only designed to target specific genotypes, and anybody inside of ATLAS's Database would have been killed upon exposure. This is physically impossible, as Biological Agents are a series of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. You cannot simply manufacture a biological agent and then corrupt it with Human DNA so it wouldn't kill that particular person. Even if that were possible, Deoxyribonucleic (DNA) and Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) are mobile, changing over time through mutations and environmental influences, and receive over 1000 mutations in their genetic code that are not present in the different cells that surround it. Manticore wouldn't be able to take that into account, and so when Irons launches the Manticore in the mission "Throttle" not only would have the invading United Nations forces been wiped out, but also the ATLAS Mercenaries as well. And speaking of the United Nations, this brings me to my final point, how does the United Nations still exist? The United Nations is one of the most politically divided organizations on the planet. It's divided between multiple different ideologies and forms of government that make it very very ineffective in modern politics, the game never takes that into account. In this universe, especially in the 2050s and 2060s when this game takes place, the United Nations should have been dissolved or at least have been broken up into multiple organizations based on the political divisions of the world. In conclusion, this game is a very poor attempt at a futuristic military shooter. There are simply too many plotholes, too many unanswered questions, too many ignored realities, and simply just poor execution. I would much rather play Call of Duty: Ghosts or Modern Warfare 3 than this game.

One thing I’ve noticed about call of duty games is that despite them being rated M for a “mature” audience, people in those age ranges would not be as entertained by the storylines of the futuristic games as opposed to the titles based on real historical events, like the Black Ops series (excluding BOIII and so on). However, when I played AW in high school, I was much younger than 17 (which is majority audience for this franchise) and I actually was thrilled by the storylines because I wasn’t too aware of what bad writing was as a young kid. Nowadays when watching these reviews, I can almost see a huge difference In perspective as I age in life. Long story short, I think these games can be more enjoyable when playing them at a younger age and having less knowledge of how cinema works properly.
@calebstevens9446 Жыл бұрын
I also notice that too, people who hold onto games like these were 12,13,14 when they played them, and that creates a bias, as an adult I can look at every one of these cod games for what they actually are, and AW is worse than bo2 bo1 MW etc, but worse doesn’t mean bad and people get upset especially the ones who glaze a certain cod bc they sat there at a young age and were able to simply play it 24/7 when it was the new cod when you say that about these cods but that’s the harsh reality. You can love a game and stills admit it’s sub par to their counter parts older or newer.

@@davemac9563 yeah, maybe you don't agree with my assessment, but to improve Irons as a character (and the game as a whole) the game should have: Not made Atlas the bad guy. The story just ends up being "US being invaded and you've been betrayed, now fight for the US Army!". I think the US Goverment should have targeted Atlas for a PMC that rivalled the US Army, and after a few incidents of civilians accidentally getting caught in the crossfire, the US Government declares war on Atlas. I think throughout the story both sides need to be shown to have bad elements, so it isn't just good blue versus red bad. I think manticore should have stayed the same, except the "recipe" for it is stolen by US spies, and they fuck it up so it just turns into a deadly gas for all of humanity, instead of being used to target specific people. In short, I wished Atlas were largely good, the US government targeting them for rivaling their power on the world stage, and there were scenes of both sides fucking up like accidentally firing on a civilian target, killing POWs, etc.

I can understand Irons not showing much emotion at the loss of his son due to him being the CEO of a multi-million or even billion company, given that he shows some sort of emotional restrain and understanding the risk of being involved in the military. Showing the emotionally remorse later on and his intentions. I believe Irons wanted to have global domination and unite the world under one banner, similar to the Persians in 300. Also trying to have character depth in a war style game is difficult, having less is sometimes good. Halo Reach, and the first trilogy, did an excellent job being more plot focused than character in my opinion. They showed just enough to get a good idea of what each character portraits in the game. Do we really need a biography for every single character in a shooter title? If there's not enough, it's too little, if there's too much it's over the top in explanation. Sometimes writers have to somewhat "yell" specific notions of the overall story and backstory to the audience for them to have a basis for the current story to lie on. Won't lie, there really isn't much of the story that interest's me much besides the overall presentation. Problem was that the content behind the presentation was lacking.

Honestly, I wish that irons wasn't shown as the villian right at the beginning of the game. It just sets the same theme of all of the cod games, its like every M. Night Shyamalan movie, there's a twist every movie that its just way to predictable. Red dead redemption 2 spoilers ahead: I would of loved irons to have a similar character structure as Dutch van der Linde in Red Dead Redemption 2. The reason is because he starts of as the 'father figure to the character' because he is nice to you and all of the characters and refer to him as a teacher. However, the more you go through the game you see his character become more unhinged and different to normal, such as how he leaves people for dead and only just get saved by the more sane members of the gang. So in conclusion I would love to have seen irons be less predictable as the main villian and be an actual twist that makes you drop your jaw both literally and figuratively. Thanks if you read this❤

Honestly, a lot of the dialogue could be improved from what it is to turn it into something really good. I always wondered if maybe Irons talked to will about his Grand Plan and how Will would've reacted. Then I wondered if maybe the real reason Will joined the Marines was to prove him wrong. And you could have that one line of dialogue where Will says "I wanted to serve my country, not my old man." and use it to hint at that and be used as foreshadowing for later events. Maybe something like "He's less than half the man you think he is." or maybe something that shows the difference in ideology between the two, like "He doesn't care about anything but the Big Picture. Not you, not me, not any of the people down here on the ground. I do."

19:21 "When video game narratives become so plot-focused instead of character-focused, it makes it hard to connect to the story." My favourite takeaway from this video. Also applies to writing books. I agree, there always needs to be plot but if the vehicles that readers use to navigate the story - characters - have about as much personality and depth as a wet paper towel, it's incredibly hard for me personally to give a shit about the story. I can cruise by on an average plot with phenomenal characters, but never the other way around when I'm watching a movie or show, or reading a book.

@mattygee68524 жыл бұрын
I've played zombies quite a lot and enjoy it the most in a zombies game second to the campaign so I do stand by what I say I will say the advanced movement made the zombies very chaotic and scary in a different way than black ops and two with making it feel like the zombies are doing EVERYTHING to try and stop you and it feels amazing The problem with it come with every single map that came after the first, where they each *forced* you to come out and basically kill yourself, and if you didnt decide to kill your self then they will punish you for it. Zombies is about surviving as long as you can against them, and not about the game itself deciding "right that's far enough" Tl:dr the first map did an amazing job at balancing the advanced movement with you and the zombies and doing so made the game feel very fast However, the other maps having forced events like saving survivors, defusing bombs or preparing for a boss lost the feeling of survival and made it a lot less enjoyable
