The tribute’s are the SGs that actually call to me. They look amazing, I like the satin feel, I prefer the batwing guard, I don’t like trapezoid markers on SG. If I was gonna buy one it would’ve been a tribute.

I purchased a Les Paul special in 2021 for 999.00 H.H. walnut maple neck with a very nice soft case nitro finish like your SG its a great deal that they no longer offer on an a USA made guitar glad I got it then.

I had a Les Paul Special Tribute like that. It was a great guitar! They discontinued that for their Les Paul Modern Lite, which was an odd choice. Cheers -Ryan

I own one of those, sold it but got it back a year later. I think you are right, more pricy epiphones, and raised price on gibsons. Its a shame, I started playing in 1992. First gibson I got was in 2015, it is a 2014 SGJ, was a floor model with cosmetic issues, got it for 420 dollars and play it all the time still. Second gibson I got was this SG Tribute. Got it cause I always wanted one with this wood look and I like dot inlays. Price. I think I paid around 900 dollars for it. What we REALLY want is nitro finish guitars for around 500 bucks. Maybe gibson should make more affordable models for the poors again. Maybe epiphone should start doing nitro finish on some of their guitars... This whole not being able to get a gibson for under around 1200 is getting old. Bring back the SGJ. Bring back the SG SPECIAL. Something like that for around 6 hundo. Come on.

Nice looking walnut SG Tribute and awesome tones! It's too bad this SG Tribute is gone now. Since Gibson is owned by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts investment bankers after Henry J sold, we have to get used to them increasing their margins even if it costs them some customers. I was considering buying the Tribute SG, but instead I found a nice used walnut 2018 SG Special (with stock minihums not P90s), a reissue of a '74 SG Special, and both have that old style SG narrow-thin neck I really like, for cheaper than a new Tribute SG. It's my fav guitar for awhile now.

Just started this video, but, coming in cold, I wanted to say: I have a '68 Standard, a 61' Reissue, and a Tribute that I put Ratio Tuners and Seymour Duncan Pickups on. When I go out to play, I take the 61 and the Tribute, one is a great guitar, and the other is a fun guitar, and an excellent backup/alt tuned instrument. I didn't know if was discontinued. I feel like it had a solid place in the ecosystem.

Well the sg tribute series is great instrument to play just like other gibson SG. But the tribute has less appointments on their spec and it doesn’t make your playing bad. I got my 2023 SG tribute in heritage cherry and love it😍

I own a Covid SG tribute. Great guitar that they can ask a lot more money for now. Simple. Great value is no longer a selling criteria for the major brands. Maximising profits is.

You mentioned you don't buy Gibson guitars anymore but you and I both know that the next badass Gibson that comes out with that perfect color, weight, and tone that speaks your language that guitar is coming home with you lol. Your channel and your thoughts and input are well respected and well received by the way.

I don't buy Gibson USA Guitars anymore. Once I tried the Gibson Les Paul Modern Lite it really just ruined things for me. I have since moved on to Gibson Custom Shop Reissues. I have avoided even so much as touching those guitars since I started playing because of their pricing... once I tried out my 1958 Les Paul Standard... that was it for Gibson USA for me. I have since picked up 7 Gibson Custom Shop Reissues. Cheers -Ryan

I think they want to max the lux factor of the Gibson brand. Brands can't be both a luxury statement and have affordable versions in todays segmented marketplace. Those of us that care about playability and sound love our SG Tributes anyway! My eye does still wander to a standard though.. those trapezoid inlays...
@JAL-cc8jd2 ай бұрын
I have an SG Tribute, a Standard, and a Modern. The Standard is my favorite of the three, but my ideal SG would be a combination of the three, namely the satin finish of the Tribute, the trapezoid inlays and bound fretboard of the other 2, and the ebony fretboard from the Modern. I did have the PCB’s in the Tribute and Standard replaced with 50’s wiring and I replaced the pickups in all three with various Seymour Duncan models (Seth Lovers in the Tribute, Pearly Gates in the Standard, and Saturday Night Specials in the Modern). I wish they would come out with a new entry level SG similar to what they did with the new LP Studio, which is an awesome guitar at a very reasonable price point in today’s market.

It is entirely possible that we see something along the lines of the “SG Modern Lite”. I’m not sure how they would do that, and make it different from the SG Tribute. Maybe an SG Standard Faded Finish? Cheers -Ryan

My first Gibson was a Les Paul Tribute and it was awesome! I did eventually trade up some guitars and get a standard that is more pretty but that is just being superficial both are great guitars.

I love SG's, and I currently have three of them hah! I had a Tribute and sadly I wound up selling it to justify buying a gorgeous 2017 Standard I stumbled across on Ebay ( It's a Sam Ash limited run they had in white with the smaller pickguard ) - I do miss having the Tribute with the heftier neck profile though at times, they are really nice guitars and the maple necks may even be a bit less prone to snap @ the headstock since it's more dense than mahogany as well I suppose.

They dropped the tribute line so they they can raise the epiphone prices. There are some epiphone sg close to 1100. $200 more you could have got a Gibson. They also wanted to raise the entry price for Gibson. Now the lowest is $1600

These are great guitars in my opinion. My old roommate picked one of these up used in good condition from Guitar Center in 2017 or 2018 for $499 before the economy went fucking stupid. No way you could get one of these for that price point anymore. I always thought these were the best deal out there to get you into a real Gibson guitar.

I like my uncovered pickups, and I don’t care about the trapezoids. I also love the Satan finish on my tribute, so comfy to play! Especially love mine because I bought it used for only $900

It hasn't been discontinued, as of yet. There has been rumours over the last couple of years that it was being discontinued... but so far it's only a few finishes that have been discontinued. Still available in Deep Purple, Heritage Cherry, and Honeyburst. Cheers -Ryan
@doomwreckertelevision352721 күн бұрын
It was discontinued cause it was too good a guitar for that price. It is an excelent guitar. I think the neck is a little think compared to my other sg but some people prefer that.

Gibson seem to have been doing their level best to become a “boutique brand” - without the QC to match. By doing so they have lost and are still losing a lot of disappointed loyalists.
@Crypticmaskguitar2 ай бұрын
Every “iteration” of Gibson gets this accusation, though. The 2018/19 Gibson has actually gotten a much more favourable opinion overall for Gibson. The previous owners wanted to change Gibson into a “Boutique Brand” and that is what brought them down. Cheers -Ryan

And the 70s Tribute had no pickguard, trap inlays, dirty fingers, grovers, and a volute
@Crypticmaskguitar2 ай бұрын
Yes. The “70s tribute” was designed by the prior ownership to reflect the look of some of the 70s SGs. I wish the current ownership would add valutes to their current “70s” models. Cheers -Ryan

I just dont understand Gibson. A 1500 dollar Gibson is much more appetizing than a 1500 Epiphone no matter how bare bones it is.

I wanna know why I can’t find a new Gibson firebird that’s not a $5000+ custom shop or an expensive epiphone that I will not buy. I had a 2010 v In sunburst and sold it like a dumbass when I was younger for cash when I had a gf and whatever. You can get explorers at the $1800-2500 used and new range of good modern models. I want equality for the firebird like the explorer and Flying V. Why not?
@Crypticmaskguitar2 ай бұрын
From my understanding there were two reasons for discontinuing the USA Firebird: Production Cost and Overall Sales. It's a shame that it was discontinued. But the demand for the Firebird wasn't as high as the Flying V and Explorer models, which aren't nearly as highly sought after as Les Pauls and SGs, obviously. So the reason why you aren't able to find a New USA Model of the Firebird is that they are no longer making them. Just the Epiphone and Gibson Custom Shop models. Cheers -Ryan
