Why was the SU 25 created?

Today we're gonna look at why and how the infamous SU-25 frogfoot was created. It starts with a quite embarrassing mistake of the Soviet airforce which eventually lead to the creation of one of the best ground attack aircraft in the world.

There were subsonic jets in that era. B-52 probably the best known one (though not Soviet). I'm not sure if the US had the A-10 in design yet, but we were using the A-4 A-6 and A-7 I'm pretty sure (The A-7 might not have been in production yet).

I remember reading some book about it , i remember them saying that if push comes to shove the SU-25 can drop all its heavy armaments to gain speed and agility to engage jets. I find that hard to believe honestly, but then again, im seeing footage of this thing eating 2-3 stingers in Ukraine and still managing to RTB so who am i to doubt

Well yeah I‘m pretty sure it gets AAMs and can use its cannon to dogfight. Dropping the load would ofc help as well. And when it comes to enemy missiles and shots, the SU-25 eats them for lunch and dinner. It‘s called flying tank for a reason. No worse than our A-4 and A-7 models, which WERE also used as fighters on occasion.

What about the relation with the MiG-27 that came about as another ground attacker (Granted, not super sonic)
