Also if one wants to get super technical during the actual Battle of Endor itself he's along the Outer Rim engaging with the last remnants of the traitor Grand Admiral Zaarin's fleet (the TIE Fighter game). The final skirmish concludes with the player waiting to hear the results of Endor and the final defeat of the Rebellion. So even beyond building up the Empire of the Hand he has a separate assignment going on concurrently with the battle.

In Legends, the Chimaera wasn't Thrawn's flagship until his return in the Thrawn Trilogy. That was Admonitor, which he left behind in the Unknown Regions. Which seems plausible, given the 'empire' and 'rebellion' themes, and even a character with glowing red swords, etc. etc... Perhaps that one will also be deserving of a rundown when it comes out? To speculate how it might have fit in with the universe if it had been made with the original franchise integration. The trailer at least looks promising, but... Well, that's a trailer. I can't remember where I read it specifically, but I recall seeing somewhere that his "exile" to the Unknown Region by Palpatine was all a ploy by the two of them. As it went, Thrawn and Palpatine knew the threats out there and Palpatine wanted to send Thrawn with enough of a fleet to get the ball rolling on what became The Empire of the Hand, but knew it would draw attention from Thrawn's detractors. So, they hatched a plan where Thrawn would be implicated in an action that would allow Palpatine to "exile" him without it being suspicious and make it look like a punishment.

I'm not positive as to the Legends continuity, but I think the SSD's were pretty much brand new around the time period of the OT (around 0~BBYish roughly) so that decently explains a potential reason why in the canon timeline/course of events why he never received any for his fleet/forces under his command. I'd also think that, to Thrawn at least, a ship that large either as a flagship that was his or otherwise (by flagship I mean of the fleet of ships itself in a strategic/tactical sense and thus, the most likely centerpiece to a fleet/strike force) or, if sufficient enough in number and capable of reinforcing a fleet with more than one per each, its irrelevant since I think Thrawn would most likely be hesitant and afraid of the, while intimidating/menacing size of the SSD's, weaknesses that inherently accompany such aspects like being a huge target that can be more easily hit as well as (likely) difficult to maneuver and, thus, adapt to his strategies and tactics "on the fly" so to speak. Not to mention, and redundancy aside, his hatred of the Death Star's due to the weaknesses mentioned above, the SSD are not much better in that regard so I can see Thrawn looking at them in a very similar light.

Thrawn would have anticipated the rebels linking up with the Ewoks and he would have reinforced the bunker, keeping a full batallion around the bunker while also having a large force go seek and destroy the rebels. The Empire likely knew where the major nearby Ewok village was, the lack of large volumes of weapons fire coming from the jungle would imply the rebel force was not on bad terms with the local natives, despite that they could hardly have failed to make contact with them. This would lead to the conclusion that checking the Ewok villages for the presence of rebels would be a good idea. The whole rebel plan on Endor would fall apart quickly as Imperial forces tracked them down and took them out.

#AskEck Was Palpatine first confirmed as a Sith Lord in a Phantom Menance? So far reading Dark Empire 1 2 and Empire End's and most of the 90's EU nothing full on confirms Palpatins is a Lord of the SIth, that honor always goes to Darth Vader.
@cgi200211 ай бұрын
Arguably he was a lord of the sith long before the events of Phantom Menace (he was recruited decades before he even became a Senator, basically while still a child), he had held the title of darth sideous for years at that point and had basically completed his training (he was never trained to be a fighter, his master trained him to be a politician, businessman and mostly master at manipulation). He was however still merely the apprentice, his actions in recruiting and training Maul were behind his masters back however. It's not until he killed his master during the events of Phantom Menace that he became the master and outright Lord of the sith however, especially since he was (to his knowledge, he believed maul to be dead) very shortly after this event, the only sith left in the galaxy. When you realise that all of Palpatines plans are basically the ones his master created as a way for the sith to rule, but in such a way as to not let 99.9999% of people know the sith ruled (mostly because most people had forgotten who the sith were and the records had been purposely manipulated for centuries). As stupid as it is, his efforts to maintain power are what actually cost him it, had he been a benevolent ruler there would have been no rebellion and he could have massed so much power in the shadows that no one could ever oppose him or his chosen successors. Instead he played the monster and encouraged conflict (darkside nature wins again).
@mrzirak79210 ай бұрын
Im not sure, but i believe that writers didn't knew what exactly sith were. Like, Noghri were going to be called "sith", so that would explain Darth Vader's title as Dark Lord of the Sith. So i think its just another moment in EU writing, when George didn't explained ×-thing and later it becomes weird because of contradiction. Like The Clone Wars that were shown before Prequels came out, and weren't exacty like the ones in movie. Though to be fair, George manages to contradict himself sometimes, with Yoda as Kenobi's teacher (and no mention of Qui-Gon) and Leia who remember her mother despite her death right after she gave birth. Or it simply was Vader/Anakin - Sith Lord; Palpatine - The Emperor thing.

#AskEck I've just started reading the thrawn trilogy and was wondering if the slow start in the beginning of heir to the empire is leading up to something or is it more of a general catch up to after rtoj?

Quick answer, Thrawn wasn't created yet at the time ROTJ was made.

#AskEcks: Question for you. What happened to prisoners taken by the Rebel Alliance? We can determine what the Empire did with prisoners, we saw prison camps in Rogue One and Andor. But what did the Rebel Alliance do with Imperial prisoners? Were they simply released? Did the Alliance have prison camps?

#AskEck I would like to know your thoughts on how you think the ship design in Star Wars Influences the viewers perception of who is good and who is evil (broughtly speaking). In your opinion, wich design choices work well and wich don't? Are there any ships in perticular (other than the big and famous ones) that peak your interest, the way they are designed? I am currently starting to analyse design choices in science fiction ship design for my university and would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

I always think, it was on purpose. Empire try to not show they know about rebel atack, so Thrawn presence should alert rebels and trap will be revealed

in Disney Canon, didn't Palpatine want to lose at Endor? I remember hearing that somewhere...perhaps the audio book for Rise of Skywalker?

In summary: Why wasn't Thrawn at Endor? He had better things to do than deal with a bunch of uppity terrorists. He had *real* threats to prepare for. It's a shame the NJO authors weren't bothered to do their homework in regards to the Empire of the Hand. I suffered through all those books hoping to learn more -- major character Jagged Fel was from the Hand! Only for them to just conflate it with the Chiss Ascendency. Such a shame. I wish Timothy Zahn had written a novel post-Survivor's Quest in the Legends timeline.

Seems like an opportunity not yet reached, maybe a guide book would help things out.
@violetlight154810 ай бұрын
@@mazkeraid4039 there's not going to be an opportunity now -- Disney "decanonized" the entire old Expanded Universe. Meaning they're not allowing any (official) new stories to be told. I've decided that if they won't do it, I'll write my own fanfiction. At least then I'll have something.

7:10 "and that's why palpatine wasn't at Endor" might want to reread that script again.

Answer one: He was busy fighting a rogue admiral. Answer two: he was killed by Ezra's suicide attack.

Legends, the original superior option: he was in the Unknown Regions fixing it up for Imperial Expansion. Disney inferior must forget version: he was spirited away long before Endor to outside the Galaxy.

Very simple: Sir: Star Wars TIE Fighter and its spinoff games make it clear: he was sent elsewhere by his boss.
