I am UK based, been boating for years in all kinds of boat but we all get it wrong every now and then, when that happens just get out and start again. Far less shame in doing that than compounding the problem and being a pain to other boater especially when so many of the people we see in these vids seem to have little understanding of what the controls actually do. Anyway I really enjoy watching the vids even if I am shouting at the computer screen!

Remember those stats that said things like the average commuter spends 4 months of their life in traffic, or 4 months sitting at red lights? In Miami, the average boater spends 4 years of their life docking, and another 4 years farting around on the ramp. Unless you're solo, you drop off a driver and back away. Around here, if you spend more than 2 minutes on the ramp, something is seriously wrong. The people in these videos would have a nervous breakdown if they could see how normal, respectful boaters launch and load.

I don't understand why people don't get lines and fenders ready well before coming in. I have whom ever is riding in my boat get it all ready well before docking. makes life easier.

I've owned 2 boats...I never had a problem docking. Read current, slow roll it, have lines ready...easy.

How about some video of the experts? Solo launches/recoveries against the wind etc. Your normal content is educational but watching it done with style might serve the same purpose?
@wizardofoz6412 жыл бұрын
that's a good idea. course, the people in these vids would need to watch them to maybe learn a thing or two.

I cannot understand if you have an expensive boat (all boats are expensive) why you do not have ropes ready at all times on each side of the boat and some fenders as well. I realize fenders take up space but you can leave them on the outside of the boat except when you are towing your boat on your trailer. I know some inexperience comes into play part of the time but these people make my head hurt. Gee use some common sense and think things through before you get in a situation. Lake boating is one thing but Ocean boating is something else and a bit more unforgiving if you make a mistake.
@timgreen41372 жыл бұрын
leaving lines laying about, creates a trip Hazzard. As well as being unsightly. Leaving the fenders outside of the rails, risks them getting lost over the side, if their fastenings come loose. Plus, running around with fenders over the side, is just unsightly as well.

If you can reach the dock, you're mostly home. Throwing a dock line to someone on the dock is not a crime. Most trouble starts when crew isn't prepared, so I usually do it all myself

Agree, I learned to captain a boat on the black sea over 44 years ago. I'm laughing now.. it was a little 16 foot boat we water skied on. I was stationed in remote turkey living in Sinop Turkey, at that time when we were on the Beach or boating we were protected by the Turkish soldiers.. they had AK-47 at the ready, we couldn't have weapons on the Beach. We were known as TUSLOG Detachment 4. Apo NY 09133 it was one of the best times in my life. United States Army Veteran, at your service.👍
