wait, so the internal stabilization and auto focus do not work with the ef-pl adapter?? That's huuuuuge information, as I was researching this camera for use on an upcoming project, specifically for those features, but have to use cinema glass. Glad I watched this as none of the other reviews I've seen have mentioned this at all.

No PL lens has autofocus that I know of. The stabilization I'd have to check.

@@Crimsonengine Right. I'm an idiot. I've only worked with cinema glass a handful times, but I knew that about it. I'm slapping my forehead right now for being so dense. Thank you. I don't know what I was thinking. It's a lot of ducks to keep in a row. Appreciate the reply.

how did you find sumire lenses? do you think it has softness like k35? are they worth it?

Good luck with your feature film - can’t wait to see some behind the scenes content. Keep up the great work! I’m looking to shoot my next short film with the Canon c500 mark II soon. I’m very excited!

About the C500 MK2: I would be curious what's your opinion about the new Blackmagic URSA? It also shoots 10 bit 4:2:2 or RAW in 4K with most of the features that the C500 has (like LUT management, etc.) but it's a bit more affordable I also wanted to say that slating is extremely useful, especially if you have someone to take notes (like writing down slate no. of the best takes and those takes where the sound is not usable, etc). That saved us a lot of time in post.

Is the URSA 6K w/full-frame & internal ND?
@mtmarci4 жыл бұрын
@@krane15 It does have internal ND. The resolution and sensor size are indeed smaller, but then again, it's 10 000 USD cheaper (less than half the price). I'd totally choose a super 35mm 4.6K sensor over full frame 6K if I could spend 10k on lights and lenses. Something that I think is more important is the difference in color science. It would be nice to see a color comparison between them.

Great content as always! Just wanted to point out that you can swap the EF and PL mounts - on Alexa Mini and the Amira at least. It’s only four corner screws - which looks to be similar to Canon’s solution - so it’s incredibly quick. I know there were many other things that contributed to the camera you chose though and not solely the mount but just wanted to point that out. I look forward to more BTS and content from your production!

Very good and detailed information. One obvious, albeit not critical upgrade I noticed is Canon's not adopting the newer USB C port. An obvious oversight on an otherwise state-of-the-art camera. That means we'll have to continue holding on to and using the already obsolete cables for another generation.

I don't know I would go without slating....I try always to have three forms of synch: timecode, slate, and scratch audio. I don't totally trust any single method for synch; I've experienced the pain of not doing so....it gets ugly quickly when a single system is used any something fails.
@sup3rdinho4 жыл бұрын
Agreed... I mean more power to you if you feel like your above slating, but yeah you are playing a dangerous game. Scene / Shot labels just help editor's and AE's organize all of the footage so that they know how to put together the film. Slating is absolutely essential if you don't want to blow your brains out.
@Crimsonengine4 жыл бұрын
I'm happy to say we used tentacle synch with no slates and have had a great experience so far. We also had the mixer sending a mix to the camera wirelessly and the camera recording a scratch track, so we had 2 backups of the time code alone. Saved a ton of time.
@Gregg0Palmer4 жыл бұрын
@@Crimsonengine I do realize that it saves time. I personally, doing both location and post audio find a lot of value in the scene take call and the actual slate impulse noise, helps me significantly in getting organized on the post audio side and evaluating the audio. But maybe that's just me....I'm not much on taking risks and after being burned a couple times my rule, "Have a backup and backup to the backup"...For everything....

You have two screens on the camera and can you explain why you need two? Can you go over how you set up your rig?

The in-built monitor is too small to really judge the image, in my opinion. A 7" can really give you a better sense of the frame, color and actors performance.
@jaggedtoothX4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. You're incorrect in stating that you don't get interchangeable EF and PL mounts on the Alexas. I know both the Mini and the Amira have EF and PL mount options.
@Crimsonengine4 жыл бұрын
Sorry - I meant a mount that you can change on set in 2 minutes or less like you change a lens. I was under the impression that you need to send your Alexa to Arri to change mounts.

I am looking to expand my knowledge on the Canon C500 mk II. Would you recommend your masterclass on the C200? As both cameras probably have fairly similar workflows, or waiting for the C500 mk II masterclass to come out? Thank you

next course from Crimson Engine. The C500. lol. Definitely looks like a great camera overall. Great picture without having to mess with RAW. That's definitely something I'd like with the high turn over of videos I'm doing. Especially seeing as I'm not a Raw expert. Which brings me to the next point. IF you make a Beginner's course to Davinci resolve. I'd take it. Good video.

The Alexa Mini can swap lens mounts in 60 seconds. It has more dynamic range than any other camera out there, it shoots easy to use and grade 12 bit ProRes 4444. It's industry standard for a reason in its simplicity of use and quality of image. Seems like the C500 was used for familiarity rather than which camera can actually collect the most information, because the Alexa is clearly superior in that regard, along with its color science in both overexposed and underexposed situations. You can see the result of the C700 FF in low light / overexposure vs Alexa here with a great dynamic range test. vimeo.com/333200960 Of course familiarity is very valid for a camera choice, but as an information capture device the C500 suffers vs Alexa.
