Kara and Nate I am a retired Federal worker. Always appeal any decision. Yes it takes time but an Appeal Officer looks at the case with fresh eyes and has a lot of leeway to resolve. Ask your person about your appeal rights. So sorry this has happened.

I almost never comment on videos, but this made me so frustrated. I get that there are rules and regulations. The fact that someone felt the need to report you makes me very upset. A better way to have handled it would have been to contact you and make you aware. Then you could have been proactive in finding out the laws and complying. On the flip side you are some of the most innovative and creative people, I believe you will find a way to continue be adventurous. Hopefully one day we will see this rule changed so that those like you can document our National Parks from a personal perspective. Watching your videos meets a need to explore and adventure that I would never be able to accomplish. So thank you for what you do. If we as your audience can send emails or advocate on your behalf at any time just ask. You have our support.

Kara & Nate, one thing you could continue to focus on is mini-docs about small towns in America that no one would ever know of. What are their interests, how do they operate on a small scale, what are their religious & political backgrounds, etc. Could be a really eye-opening experience to show how diverse and dynamic our country is, especially in a time of such clear divide. Regardless, you're gonna make it work and make all of us happy! Edit: wow, glad to see so many people agree! Tl;dr - anyone can visit national parks, but only experienced storytellers like Kara and Nate traveling the country in a van can tell us stories we’ve never seen or could experience.

The national parks really, REALLY don't need any advertising. They're packed to capacity and then some, and it's been reported on that a lot of people who want to go to the parks can't (or can't go in certain areas/on certain trails) because they're so crowded they have to enter a lottery system to get permitted. What the parks need is funding, which has been cut repeatedly, and that's likely why they're trying to get people like KZbin influencers - who make a lot of money of the parks - to pay them a fee. I think it makes sense, and it's fair of Kara and Nate to decide not to film there, but just as fair for the parks to fine people who make money off the parks.

@@Mosely Like I mentioned before, they did say that they enjoy filming their travels and posting it on KZbin. While money might be part of it, I believe that they really enjoy sharing their travels with others and that it makes them happy. If it didn't make them happy, they would not be doing this channel because editing videos and planning all their travels is not easy and also super tedious (have you tried editing 3 hour-long documentaries in a van while driving, cooking, keeping track of and worrying about your husband, because Kara literally did that by herself) and they are definitely not on an eternal vacation. Their life isn't as simple and carefree as what you see on KZbin. Yes, they are travelling around the world but the effort and work that goes into this channel to share their travels is astronomical. That, in my opinion, shows their drive to share their travels and that it is not just the money and I feel that you have a wrong conception (and maybe a little jealous) of the life that they have.

Important to note: I've just read up on the rules for photographing inside a National Park - I'm a photographer and you had me concerned. You need a permit if you have a crew and if you need to have Park Services monitor your activity. Like taking a wedding couple into the park, or a magazine shoot etc. Landscape photography no problem, no permit necessary. So, 1 - consider to be creative with your stills and video storytelling. Second - Commercial Filming is defined in their words as intent to sell the footage. Your work is completely free to me. You are not selling any footage. Remember, you make money because You Tube runs ads and collects information, you are paid for ads - YOU DO NOT SELL YOUR FOOTAGE. You are non commercial people, you are journalists, very different in the legal definitions. Finally, Drones are not allowed anywhere in the National Park, at any time. The FAA license is only required if you intend to SELL YOUR FOOTAGE, or fly your drone for hire. If you aren't doing those things then you do not need an FAA license. I know bureaucracy can be a major pain - however, the person who reported you is wrong in their assessment of your activities.

Someone with a film crew could make no money if their film isn't a hit. While someone with a gopro can make thousands of videos off a single video so it really makes no difference the size of the camera. It seems JUST to them too. I've watched a lot of hiking videos during COVID and they are all in National parks, including Yellowstone, and many others on the big trails, CDT, PCT, and AT. No one is telling them they can't film and post, and many have as many subscribers and views as Kara and Nate, or more.

Simple Solutions: 1. Turn off monetization on all videos relating to any national parks to avoid being targeted as commercial filming 2. Get a DJI Mavic Mini drone since it only weights 249 grams, which you don’t have to register at all to fly Hope this help 👍👍

Completely agree. Plus whenever they traveled before they used to do some research whether drones are allowed or not and they followed it. The fact that they are 'at home' in US does not excuse them from knowing the rules. I also think that the fact that apparently they do not feel "fullfilled and excited' about visiting those unique, wonderful miracle of the nature places that are National Parks of Western USA unless they can film, for me means that they are incapable of appreciating the true beauty of those places. Some people go on few day isolated hike in those places and come back with memories and spiritual strength and calm that they never had - especially in those challenging times this kind of retrospective experience could be very enriching.... but sadly according to Kara and Nate it is clearly not worth it to put down the camera for once in a while.

The National Parks are so heavily written about and vlogged, I see this an opportunity to elevate your content to other topics. Go visit the parks and keep the footage for your personal memories, but vlog the small towns and communities around the parks. We recently visited Glacier National Park. We spent three days in the park, but spent three days in the surrounding communities. Whitefish, Columbia Falls and Hungry Horse had some really cool little spots, and I'm sure the small business owners would be happy to have you. We spent six nights at Moose Creek RV Resort in their Airbnbs, and had the most amazing time & felt a part of someone's family. Most likely wouldn't have had that experience in park accommodations.

This! I hope you guys turn a challenge into an opportunity to be more creative and tell some of the less known stories. And while you're currently not interested in the permit and planning required for National Parks, maybe it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and apply. You might change your mind. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing proposition. You could mix up your content with some more planned excursions one you are properly permitted and also include some of the stories of the surrounding areas in a more freestyle form you are accustomed to following.

@@marinaxoniki9855 lol, you must be joking right? Or on second thought I agree with you, this craziness of travelblogs in national parks needs to stop. Let's put up a global ban. From now on only travel blogs from boring places should be allowed. Filming in national parks should be reserved to Hollywood studios and TV channels who can wait 5 weeks or more for the wheels of bureaucracy to turn. When I search for "Yellowstone" in youtube i get at least a couple of hundred commercial channels. I expect those videos to be taken down promptly. We only want 1 or 2 videos from Yellowstone max, directed by Jerry Bruckheimer or other hotshots.

It’s a bummer you got dinged, but you’re far from alone in that. I was kicked out of a state park for filming once before I knew how it all worked. Honestly, I wouldn’t let it discourage you. It’s sort of a rite of passage to the next level of being a professional. If you had your hearts set on some parks, do the paperwork, pay the fees, and it will be worth it- especially if you can get a drone in there. A lot of people don’t bother and that is why videos like that are more valuable, because they take more effort. And with the quality you guys produce, they would be videos with a long lifespan. Don’t think of it as a barrier, think of it as an investment 😉
