A great way to keep track of what is going on where in the books is to keep the interactive map from HBO open in chrome on ipad, and visually you can see what is going on and where people are going. Another great feature if you do use kindle app to read the books is the definition feature to help to understand so much of the old-english wording that the author uses.

the characters that got me wanting more are the outcast jon snow, little arya and of course the dragon queen dinares. but at the same time, I keep on watching/reading waiting for sansa and geoffrey to die. which is also impelling in a different way. very well written.

My favorite part of the saga is that there basically is no "Good Guy" or "Bad Guy". Each chapter is written from a specific character's perspective and the entire "Good/Bad" spectrum shifts accordingly. It took a while to get used that though.

Just noticed this show on your channel, and I'll totally re-subscribe (stopped since I haven't played sc2 in ages) if you continue with it. It would be really awesome if you guys would decide on a story in advance, so that we viewers could go through it before the episode!
@BlunderfulGuy12 жыл бұрын
In the Sword of Truth series, Terry Goodkind would begin chapters with a new character's perspective by purposefully not telling you who they are and instead letting you get a feel for who they are first. This is great and something that I definitely enjoy, however, I believe in George R. R. Martin's books, since there are so many characters that you must keep track of because of how the story is, giving the characters name with the chapter is very good and certainly necessary.

That's precisely what makes Sword of Truth so great; it's not just a sword and sorcery fantasy series, it's so much more. It's a comment on the evils of religion and superstition, and how capitalism is superior to socialism. Goodkind has the ability to portray those themes through a fantasy novel that manages to stay incredibly interesting until the very end, and that is what I find masterful. I've heard that wheel of time is REALLY tedious to read, but I should give it a shot.

Though I clearly (now) see your point, I believe this is not actually a feature which necessarily pushes it down the path of tv-series (or film for that matter). I view it as more an effort to keep some things hidden. A lack of focus on the dialogue, and as such an increase of nuance (as you aptly call it) would not only let the plot be shown more clearly (and deprive us of mystery) as well as remove the very realistic nature which allows us to really "live" the narrative.

So, I'm sure this analysis has already been made, but they didn't say it in the show so I have say it: I'm pretty sure the reason Ned dies is because Martin wanted to make a story with no heroes, but no matter what he did someone would always be seen as "the hero character" because we just want and expect to do that. His solution was to allow you your hero, and then show you, "Hey, this story has no heroes."
