No state tax, no building codes, no property tax, no HOA! That’s a few reasons I picked where I am. Of course no building codes is how my cabin ended up needing a bunch of work! And yeah, I carry because of animals mostly too. No state lets you live more free than Alaska. Love Ron’s channel! I found him because he comments your videos! I would never live in California (sorry Ron)and glad I left Colorado which is trying to become California 2.0! LIVE FREE!!😉

Much as I love Utah I can't wait to move back to Alaska full time. Worked four summer tour seasons up there in college over 10 years ago and always said I feel like I left a piece of myself there. The beauty, wildness, personal freedom and responsibility, no income tax, no codes or permits, outdoor recreation, are some of the many reasons I love Alaska. An extended family member may be inheriting an old cabin on the Kenai Peninsula and they've offered to let me live there for free for a few years in exchange for renovating it. That will be my foothold into living up there full time forever I hope.

Wow you are right that Fairbanks is so different from the area you live. I was stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska in the early 80s. The winters there are damn harsh and long to put it mildly. I am a very outdoorsy person that was born and raised in Montana. However, I did not enjoy my time at Eielson AFB. It was mainly because I was a 20 year old single Airman living in the barracks. Being single my tour at Eielson AFB was 1 1/2 years long. I arrived at Eielson AFB in October if you count the 18 months I was there you will realize that I spent 2 winters and 1 summer there. It took a lot of the fun away from it. That fact that I was stationed more than 30 miles south of Fairbanks and there were very few young ladies made it much harder for a young Airman. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to enjoy a lot of Alaska the way that others do. Even if I did go hunting, salmon and halibut fishing I wouldn't have been able to store the meat. I did do some catch and release fly fishing for grayling during the one summer I was there. Oh, the one thing I almost forgot is the skeeters. It was almost impossible to go outside during the summer months unless you had skeeter dope on. I have never seen a place with so many of them, and they are very large.

Sadly, we have city sales tax in Sitka (5% off-season, 6% during terrorist season), PSG has city sales tax, and I know KTN does, too (borough + city = 6.5%). We bought our big boat through BayCo in KTN, and at the time of our purchase, their sales tax applied to everyone equally, regardless of where you live, and it was capped at $65. Now, they're required to charge you sales tax for large purchases based on the sales tax of where you reside, which means our Lund that we just purchased from them cost us 11X more in sales tax than our North River. Seems like they get you coming or going, but I'd rather the tax dollars stay local. The other great thing about living in AK is that you can, if you put enough effort into it, live a subsistence lifestyle and spend little on meat or veg. 😊 We're excited for you guys and your new boat--let the fun, and an all new level of anxiety, begin!

Alaska is too remote for me and I like remote places 😝 I live in “remote” Montana on 200 acres but can still go to Costco, Home Depot, Walmart within 40 minutes

Just a short boat ride to Juneau🤙 I want to visit Montana one day.

I know this is a stupid question, but how do the beers get to your island from the main land? Can they swim in the ocean?

Anchorage has sales tax on "tourist" items like hotels, vehicle rentals, etc. The MatSu has a sales up to a certain amount. Live Free!

Good to know. The sales tax on my boat was $15.00

I live in Petersburg, we have sales tax and property tax here, we don't live in area 1 of the borough so we can do and build what we want. It is also a island, love my Alaska, stay free and strapped.

Thanks for the comment Julie. I’ll make it over to Petersburg one of these days.

We love your channel and we hope you don't get political. We live in northern Michigan and we probably get more snow than you. Mostly lake effect. Thanks for sharing.

That’s true, death is around every corner but that’s regardless of where you live.

Love watching the dogs run wild in the snow. Alaska is just somewhere a good sidearm is pretty much a requirement unless you're never getting off the asfault in Anchorage. Even then, the moose are like stray cats here and I have my 10mm even when I take the dog out because you never know when you walk out the door and a moose is right there. Usually they don't pay you any mind but there is always that chance you step out on a big bull or a cow with a calf and things can get "wild" real fast. If I was healthier and was able to live out like you guys, i'd do that in a heart beat.

Yeah those moose don’t play around.

I'm glad to hear the boat is coming soon. The only thing that I have that you don't is property tax and my tax for this you was 80 dollars. I live in N.E. Texas in the country. I do carry a gun and we have both types of Constitutional and permit. That's so you can cross into another state with your gun. But you have the Best scenery around you it's Beautiful up there.
